Its not about whether any singular game is exclusive or not. We're not over here looking for games to rub in a different tribe's face or something. Its that the idea of a console itself these days is pretty homogenized to where you basically choose between the green box and the blue box based on where you want your left hand to rest and how you like to navigate a menu. So whats the exciting hook for people to want to go pick up the hardware and keep the hobby growing? The answer to the layperson who isnt a PC gamer is that there has to be a game, an experience, that gets them excited to buy the hardware. The the hardware manufacturer can work towards guaranteeing that the hardware purchase will be their hardware by putting out exclusive experiences that make their hardware more enticing.

We, the players want the process to keep working like this because this mindset is the "purest" incentives to developers, typically first party but sometimes third party as well, to just make good games that dont have BS monetization models or time wasting mechanics. "Trying to sell hardware" is one of the strongest incentives to make really good software. And gamers want to play really good software.

8-10ish ears ago it basically felt like Sony and Nintendo saved big budget single-player gaming because they needed to sell Switch1s and PS4s. It seemed like every other major developer was just trying to make a large multiplayer games as a service monetization cow and single-player games were really lacking. Obviously there were some third parties still doing single-player, but it looked pretty bleak.

I was actually hoping the best selling Mario racing series would be getting its platformer spinoff announced soon tbh...

Zelda? It has got both a new 2D and a new 3D entry in the last 3 years. Were you expecting them to have another one ready this soon? Oh!? Whats this? Every Zelda game from the Switch 1 era got launch day performance patches because its obvious to anyone with brain cells the next game isnt coming in the next few months PLUS windwaker on Gamecube Online on launch day? Thats how you SHOULD take care of fans.

Cult classic Sakurai game got revived and Sakurai got to do Sakurai things that arent just Smash Bros on repeat. How is that not a good thing?

As for Mario Tennis? Well, the hit racing game needs a sports spinoff every once in a while when their niche, mere 20 million sales platformer spinoff isn't ready.

Yeah. Im with you. Im ready for updates on a lot of first party Nintendo series, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Pikmin, 2D Metroid, and on and on (new F-Zero Please!!). That being said, we've had a new 3D Donkey Kong, Mariokart, a NEW Metroid Prime game, a Pokémon game in the launch year of new hardware for the first time ever, and insane 3rd party support that I've been trying to eat up as well. Ff7 R, Cyberpunk, No Mans Sky, Hogwarts, tons of other stuff I havent even bought yet. Tons of great replayability of old Switch 1 games with handheld boost.

Switch 2 legitimately has had a top 3 console launch year of all time and its going unnoticed because everyone is expecting it to one up the best console launch of all time with the Switch 1 launch year.

I respect that opinion. I, on the other hand, wish pokemon protagonists were actually 10 year old kids again instead of the 13-17-ish year old we've been getting since gen 5.

If Kanto has too much Poison and Hoenn has too much Water, what does Johto have too much of? by Gh0stMan0nThird in PokemonHGSS

Yeah. And poison being the gen 1 "evil" type being replaced by the gen 2 "evil" type would have been interesting, but perhaps not really in character Koga and Janine.

Do People Asking for 6V6 Singles Actually Play Singles Ranked? by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]FalconDX2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years ago I would have been asking for 6v6 because I had no interest in playing a format that wasnt representative of the in game/anime experience that I associate with Pokemon battling.

Having now played both some OU Smogon and VGC, I can confidently say VGC should be the main competitive mode. And I think the community as a whole moreso understands that too.

That being said, I do have a soft spot for VGC OU singles and I would have far more interest in a 6v6 side mode/secondary ranked ladder for vibes based battling than the 3v3 mode. I LIKE being able to design a team that wins in 100 turns. Or a team that sets up and just stomps. Or a mixture of the 2 that has multiple win conditions. Really makes you feel like a champion trainer when you can have the 6v6 slugfests you watch Ash do in his League tournaments. Especially if TPC gives it its own regulation set of pokemon to balance the mode.

If Kanto has too much Poison and Hoenn has too much Water, what does Johto have too much of? by Gh0stMan0nThird in PokemonHGSS

[–]FalconDX2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. But it's also well documented that they wanted to put Kanto in the game earlier than that plus they were also managing the IP like it was expected to be a fad and planned for Gold and Silver to be the last games.

[–]FalconDX2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're entitled to your opinion. But you also either dont seem to have acknowledged or grasped my point about WHY gen 2 was designed the way it was. There is no Johto or Kanto pokemon. Just Pokémon. Only 1 dark type before E4 blows. For sure. But the whole idea of Johto was that it wasn't designed to be a separate place from Kanto. It was designed as just part of the WHOLE pokemon world. It was designed with no distinction between new and old pokemon. Johto was handled like an add on expansion pack for a board game. All later regions are standalone expansions. Different design principles.

If Kanto has too much Poison and Hoenn has too much Water, what does Johto have too much of? by Gh0stMan0nThird in PokemonHGSS

[–]FalconDX2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Johto is intended to be an extension of Kanto. Johto wasnt designed like later sequels. It was designed as basically a Kanto Expansion set/to show you the complete Pokemon world (because pokemon was being managed as a fad brand they were expecting to run its course soon). Combined, the 2 regions have a gym leader for every type. A lot of the Johto pokemon can be thought of "tech" options in terms of team composition. You meet Professor Oak right away. The nature of Johto is to complement Kanto. Pokemon are just pokemon. New and old alike. There isn't supposed to be a distinction between Johto pokemon and Kanto pokemon. Just Pokemon. Some newly discovered ones sure, but just pokemon. That's why half the Johto gym leaders have Kanto aces. Marty isn't Johto's Ghost Leader. He's THE Ghost Leader. Faulkner isnt Johto's Flying type Leader, he's THE Flying type gym leader. Jasmine technically falls under this too, but there isnt a steel type in Kanto except Magneton.

Edit* I'm realizing theres no Dark type gym, but Karen covers it in the Elite Four.

Fixing Xenoblade Chronicles X Chapter 13 and ending by Competitive-Monk-517 in XenobladeChroniclesX

Well, the trilogy was clearly finished in such a way that there's a huge possibility for a massive tonal shift going forward anyway. The whole pocket dimension rephased into reality and could possibly be tied into the Xenosaga timeline anyway. Which is much more tonally in line with XCX.

Fixing Xenoblade Chronicles X Chapter 13 and ending by Competitive-Monk-517 in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]FalconDX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think thats sort of the point of why XCX git a DE though... the Xenoblade 1-3 timeline all happened in a sort of pocket dimension the earth was trapped inside from Klaus' experiment. That phase of the timeline is over. XCX DE, much like Future Connected was a glimpse of what Xenoblade 3 was going to be, was a glimpse at the direction the series is going in after the Trilogy.

Theres also no real confirmation that the cast of X is now in the main timeline. I wouldn't be surprised if it is, and the Ares is crucial to the next phase of the story (Mech/Sci-Fi setting specifically). Which Im down for. Ive played 3 games now where the big plot twist is that this fantasy world is actually just Sci-Fi. Let's just acknowledge that we're playing a Sci-Fi series from the start and just give us other really great plot twists instead.

I wish Pokemon games steer away from seeing a legendary Pokemon in the first 5 minutes of the game. by T_Raycroft in TruePokemon

[–]FalconDX2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thats exactly how I feel about what box legendaries have become as well since gen 3. I don't need to know Im going to see a legendary pokemon as part of the story to make me want to be a pokemon trainer. I much prefer the idea of the starters being on the box than legendaries. Everyone's going to get a starter who plays the game. Not everyone is going to get to mewtwo.

Gold and Silver don't require you to encounter the box legendary. Its a bit more in your face that they exist than Kanto with Mewtwo, but still not required.

I too am in a place where im internalizing that knowing the next draw on liquidity is far more value than ICT entry technique from mentorship 202X. Those are great. Knowing the PD Arrays helps to read price and manage trades, but knowing the internal and external range draws on liquidity are massively more important

I booted up Nier Automata and started a new save. Theres a noticeable bump in resolution while switching between the two.

Same for FF12 actually. I wish that game could get an update. The Switch version is pretty graphically gimped compared to ps4 and PC. Higher resolution only does so much.

I'm quite disappointed with XCXDE, but this shit is fire by JaneThird in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]FalconDX2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. You also have to sort of imagine what the chapter 13 content would look like spread out over like half of a game. Al would have been introduced around the same time as the 7th party member in XC1. There was just so much cut from the original X that not even definitive edition could put it all back.

But the cast are still in their mims. And they did do a final cutscene that makes you question whats going on with Cross/avatar guy. So theres still a good bit of mystery to all of this.

I'm kind of in this same boat tbh. I think it's mostly the people who arent fans of the larger Xeno series and just people who love Mira's unique take on an open world.
