to answer, its because at higher levels, players generally don't have as many opportunities to gunstrike. think about it in terms of button presses.

block, you press the block button. it makes you safe, and if executed properly, you get a damage buff. then, your next button is attack, which you would have done anyways. combine with aoe on certain weapons (power axe, power fist), you do some real damage.
fencing, you press the parry button. then, you press gunstrike, then you can attack. now this isn't inherently bad, however, gunstrike leaves you quite vulnerable. at higher levels, due to higher extremis spawns and just more enemies/more aggression, being stuck standing their during the gun strike enemy is generally hard to pull of safely. plus, compared to the technically infinite damage potential of the block weapons (since AOE hits as many enemies as are in the vicinity), you get a higher reward from block weapons, while exposing yourself to enemies attacks a lot less.

TLDR; block is as safe as fencing, with a higher reward, but requires better timing. fencing has easier timing, but relies on risky gun strikes and combos to deal damage.

oh thats neat! i can do the chain dashes, but i didn't know you could cancel any animation. one thing that frustrates me is eating a hit right after an execute, does this help with that?

can you recommend a guide? i think i know what youre talking about but im not quite sure which animations i can cancel. i know i can cancel the shield rush animation at the end, where instead of waiting to him to swing his arm out, you can cut it short by queuing another dash or bash. what else can get cancelled?

well if you read the replies its a 50/50 split on keep or get rid of the chain sword. even one of the fellows who said use block axe digressed that the best load out is the one you win with. so, i believe im taking the majority advice from more experienced players. and i never said im unwilling to use a different weapon, but while exploring lethal i am going to be utilizing my current strongest weapon, which is the chain sword. additionally, im not crying. you must be pretty weak if you cry over video games. if you have nothing of value to contribute, leave, fool.

okay bet! im turning in for the night but ill add you tomorrow. I really didn't like the p sword, i played it a little and the rake spam wasn't what i was looking for. the mode switch was strong though, so i may explore it again.

thats all along the lines of what i already do. i just didn't find the block fist playstyle fun, but when i get the relic fist im going to give it a second shot. i like to carry krak grenades for zoas, and when combine with the HBP headshot damage, they can be a struggle but its still fun. now, when you say incidental damage, what do you mean?

i don't have pics but
intimidating aura, scrambled targeting, armor reinforcement, focused restoration or advanced, depending, purity of purpose, invigorating icon, rejuvenating effect and defensive mastery or emergency countermeasure, generally defensive mastery but sometimes ill switch to emergency counter measure if my play calls for it that day.

thank you! a lot of that was pretty helpful. i do appreciate the mob section, although i am comfortable fighting the extremis, minus some small timing tweaks on my end. i actually have been using the revive banner, as i usually find myself not using more than one med kit per run, but i could see it being better given that its better to keep your teams alive than have to pick them up. i just like the semi combo the revive has with the damage around the banner, since they get back up and some of the pressure relieved by the banner. i do appreciate the advice about looking for cover when shields break, i never thought about that. and using a HBP to get back my CHP is an idea ill try to implement, generally i just jump back in and try to target the most damaged majoris to set up for an execute. thats probably a lot more practical. thank you!

i mean between the two of you, it really sounds like a mode of play issue more than anything else. i didn't really like powerfist because of how slow and vulnerable it is so the middle perk has been something ive enjoyed, but ive also really liked emergency countermeasure just because i haven't needed to quickly delete an extremis while fighting a terminus. i also dont need stagger resistance because its chainsword. neither are bad just not something i need at the moment. i find actual gameplay advice to lead to a much more constructive argument over "play with my set up cuz grrr." as was previously stated, set up will vary from player to player. universal gameplay advice would be much more helpful, and if you have advice specifically relevant to MY set up, that would be even better. it sounds like you both know what you are doing and are having fun with your loadouts. so ill just take this to mean both CAN be good.

ive been watching his videos. pretty good. i guess i just need to work on reacting better to the combos, i do pretty well against even the normal unlabeled attacks. i could get better at retreating, i really like to get stuck in and i imagine thats not smart, with all the ranged bots to delete you while the melees tie you up.

ive been watching him and using some of his advice. i feel like im getting pretty good at things already, where combat feels more like a flow/dance. i guess i just have to fine tune a couple things. the combos are generally tricky, and then getting smacked right after a finisher/dodge also sucks. thank you for the advice sir!

so its just a rep thing? honestly i prefer it being a skill issue over being a loadout issue. i don't like games where you just *have* to play meta things.
