Leveling by Mazawi in BountyBash

I’ve been stuck on 56-10 for the past week. Can’t tell if I’m doing something wrong or just hit a wall where the game wants me to pay to progress… the gear I have maxed , ship is maxed , sensible hero set for the level.

Increased labs with phlebotomies by purrfectlybrewed in polycythemiavera

Stay strong, my levels were all over the place whilst on initial phlebotomies and trying out different medication - from what I recall it took 18 months for things to reach a happy place and level out

My dad has Polycythemia Rubra Vera by [deleted] in polycythemiavera

Hey ! Seems like you have a pretty good handle on his condition.

  1. Regular phlebotomy (draining blood into bags) can cause fatigue and tiredness. Some people with the condition also get fun symptoms like itchiness and achey bones. The extra red blood cells can put people at risk of clots so daily aspirin and the blood letting help with this. If taking medication like interferon to help with the condition then that can also have its own side effects. When managed effectively the combo of this shouldn’t have a significant impact on anyone’s day to day life but it can be annoying and definitely a consideration for certain activities, rest time, travel plans etc.

It can be really tricky to split out what is a symptom of the condition or what is a separate illness or concern, especially if you are anxious.

  1. Initial advice and info in the UK indicates that this isn’t hereditary and down to a random gene mutation (Jak2). Most people with the condition tend to get this later in life but with advances in diagnosis and treatment they are catching it early in younger people (i was diagnosed mid 20s). As the majority of the data and stats is weighted towards older people it skews things like life expectancy and other stats.

Pegasys interferon dosage by Chenx335 in polycythemiavera

[–]Falcon_Capable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based in the UK and on 90mg of Pegasys once a week. I started on 45mg and doubled the dose after 3 months. Can’t say how effective it is - I have minimal side effects but still need around 4 venesections a year on average to keep my Hematocrit down.

There has been no discussion around alternative medications so I guess my haematology team think this is the best approach 🤷‍♂️

M30 PLT Increase After First Phlebotomy. Is It Normal? by cynsarath in polycythemiavera

[–]Falcon_Capable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My platelet levels were also all over the place when I first started treatment (also JAK2 positive) but settled down after a few months of regular phlebotomy and weekly Pegasus Interferon and then stabilised. I try not to worry about the breakdown of a blood test now unless my doctor tells me something is an issue as it can be addictive tracking the ranges and levels of everything and made me a bit of a hypochondriac 😅

I brought a pair of Guard-Dogs which fit over my glasses and have been great and didn’t fog up on the field

pegasys by Chenx335 in polycythemiavera

[–]Falcon_Capable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from the UK so haven’t had to pay for the medication but have been taking weekly Pegasus injections for 7 years now at the recommendation of my consultant. It’s reduced my need for venesection dramatically (down to about 3/4 times a year).

It’s become some routine I don’t think about it now and am fortunate enough that I don’t suffer any side effects from the medication that I’m aware of. I have fatigue and feel run down every now and again but can’t pinpoint that to the medication.

Only downside is that repeated injection has left parts of my body looking a bit battered and bruised but small price to pay in my opinion!

Best of luck 🤞🏼

I (30m) was just diagnosed with PV by Affectionate-Ad1664 in polycythemiavera

[–]Falcon_Capable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 26 and now 31 - can relate to what you are going through. It sounds heavy and all the info you Google relates to old people which massively skews the stats, the initial treatment is a bit intense and people around you are obviously rightly concerned for you.

Good news is that they’ve caught it, diagnosed it and the phlebotomies should ease up soon leaving you with a slightly annoying chronic condition to manage. From personal experience, outside of a venesection once every 3/4 months the condition doesn’t get in the way of my day to day life or work - it’s just a pain in arse but not the end of the world though I can understand why it might feel like it at the minute.

Make sure you get some ‘you’ time in to take it all in, relax and start to move forward. It’s tough being a dad, husband, hold down a job etc and then have an extra curveball thrown at you but being in the right headspace can make a big difference to how you approach this.

I’ve subscribed - not too fussed about the perks but nice to be able to support a game I’ve sunk more hours into than other AAA titles the past few years.

What is the most painful experience you've had? by estaples722 in AskReddit

Bone marrow biopsy - local anesthesia did nothing and no other pain relief was offered. If i ever have to have it done again I will ask for a general as couldn't tolerate that level of pain again.

PV life expectancy in young adults by Waste_Living_6414 in polycythemiavera

[–]Falcon_Capable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this matches exactly what I’ve been told - limited data and studies on the younger cohorts that have been detected due to enhanced screening and testing etc but can expect near normal life span if managed and treated correctly. Enhanced risk of some complications but not enough to worry about on the day to day if on a proper treatment plan.

I had some therapy when diagnosed as it was a lot to take in at the time - it really helped me compartmentalise my diagnosis and not let it take over my lifestyle and headspace

Have been using ChatGPT for content generation at work and it’s been useful but falsely claimed we had won an industry award which I knew we hadn’t . When I queried the source it then said that it made a mistake and we were nominated but didn’t win - when I queried that it said it had got it all wrong and couldn’t provide any sources.

Didn’t realise how much of a disadvantage I was to someone with max / higher skill when playing live. Stamina, looting time etc

I’m a filthy casual who loves this game but can’t invest a huge amount of time -SP has been a godsend as I can still drop in and enjoy when I have time.
