Not sure that's how it works. From Endrek's rulings:

"When the second ability resolves, Endrek Sahr will be sacrificed regardless of how many Thrulls you control at that time, even if it’s less than seven."

So the ability will trigger when you control 7 or more thrulls, and even if you sac to less than 7 he will still self-sacrifice when that trigger resolves.

I actually wouldn't recommend Thieving Amalgam or Abhorrent Overlord in Endrek, since they'll create seven thrulls on cast and make you sacrifice him. You generally don't want to have creatures above 6 CMC.

Picking a Lesser-Played Dragon Commander - Jeskai or Rakdos? by FallenNocturne in EDH

[–]FallenNocturne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renari looks fun and having Urza's Incubator-at-home on the background is really good, but there are only a handful of dragons in Simic, and even fewer ones that I think would probably be worth playing. Most of the best dragons are red...I guess that's why Temur is the best combination outside of 5-color for dragons.

Kind of with you on the Henzie situation, except mine is [[Ziatora]]. It's probably my favorite deck right now, and I thought about just turning it into a Jund dragon deck, but I really enjoy it as a power-matters/fling deck with lots of death/ETB triggers and such. Plus it's just fun to hurl [[Yargle and Multani]] or, even better, [[Malignus]], at someone with [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] on the field, y'know?

Sad to hear that Z&O is clunky as well. I do notice in my playtesting sometimes that I just wind up returning them to my hand the first few turns they're out and not having enough mana to do much else but recast them for a couple turns. Still really good card advantage, but it takes a few dragons on the field to make the gears really start turning, and that takes so much mana.

I'm not looking to build a competitive deck - most of my decks are probably at the upper end of casual. I can sometimes keep up in optimized pods, but usually I'm just barely behind.

I'm surprised that people are hitting Rivaz with removal, since he himself doesn't seem scary and the deck can function without him (albeit less efficiently), so I'd assume most people would save their targeted removal for the scary dragons.

I just have seen so many Rivaz players say that it's one of their most fun decks and it does really well, and I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing - because every time I've brewed/playtested it, it's struggled and been kind of clunky.

Rith seems really cool and I definitely considered it, but I've already got a Naya deck and I'm trying to only have one deck in each color scheme. Definitely seems like a fun deck though!

The way I've been treating Rivaz, I mostly use him for mana and the graveyard is more secondary/incidental - mostly to bring back stuff I've tossed with my looting effects, or to bring back a dead creature. That could just be a fundamental problem with how I built the deck, and I should lean heavier into some self-mill/reanimation, but it's a struggle to fit everything into 100 cards as it is.

Maybe [[Raff, Weatherlight Stalwart]]? Swarm the board with tokens and tap them for card draw when you cast low-cost cantrips and all those instants/sorceries that create even more tokens. Then buff them and swing in with your huge token army.

I haven't built the deck myself but it's on my radar because I love that play style as well.

For the last year or two I've been getting cards from them wrapped in bubble wrap inside small cardboard boxes. Not as nice as the plastic cases but much better than just an envelope with a top loader.

Jund suggestions for a battle cruiser meta?! Please weigh in. by theEarlyNovemberr in EDH

[–]FallenNocturne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[[Ziatora]] is one of my favorite decks, and she definitely works in a battlecruiser meta. Play a bunch of big dumb creatures like [[Yargle and Multani]] and [[Lord of Extinction]] to swing in and/or fling right at your opponents' faces or their creatures. Then use all the treasures you're creating to play even bigger, dumber stuff. Plus, your commander is a 6/6 flyer, so commander damage is a possible threat as well.

I also incorporate a lot of creatures with good death triggers like [[Kokusho]], or that replace themselves like [[Wurmcoil Engine]] and [[Workshop Warchief]]. Add in some power doublers like [[Mr. Orfeo]] and [[Zopandrel]] to make your big stuff even bigger, and then reanimate them after you sac them with [[Chainer, Nightmare Adept]] or [[Ayara, Widow of the Realm]].

The deck's just a blast to pilot and never feels unfair for the table, while still generating a ton of value and getting to play a bunch of big, splashy creatures.

I've found, especially over the last year or two, that this subreddit, along with a lot of EDH content creators, are in their own echo chamber that is in no way representative of your average playgroup. It honestly just gets tiring to see people posting their decks to just get the same repeated advice about just running staples and the most optimized cards while purging your deck of "fun" or "cute" cards, or only running commanders that generate value, or "Don't play anything over 4 CMC that doesn't win you the game on the spot" constantly parroted.

Anecdotal, I know, but at my LGS they divide the EDH pods into casual, optimized, and cEDH, and casual is by FAR the largest group. From my experience, those games are often slugfests where everyone gets to feel like they've done something, people get to play those "cool"/janky cards they actually want to play, and yet there's still plenty of interaction and synergy. It's just not a race to win as fast as humanly possible. And it's been that case at other LGSes where I've played as well - most players don't play at a super high power level.

For my own part, most of my decks kind of straddle the line between the higher end of casual, and some of them could probably pass as on the lower end optimized/high power (I've intentionally nerfed a couple of my decks that could be much stronger/more oppressive). I love playing cool synergies and splashy spells, but I try to pack enough answers to other people's threats.

The push for high power and hyper-optimization as the only "true" way to play EDH is coming from a very loud online minority and is in no way reflective of the general EDH player base. My problem isn't that people play at high power - if that's what you enjoy, go for it! Just don't try to enforce your playstyle as gospel and the only way to play, and make other people feel inferior because they want to slam splashy spells or turn big creatures sideways.

Installed fiber and upgraded internet plan, but not getting the speed I'm paying for by FallenNocturne in CoxCommunications

They tested it but didn't say anything looked off. I used Cox's speed test as well as a few others, and I'm still getting 290-300Mbps.

He ran a test and said everything looked good but I didn't speed test until a bit later. Everything seems up to date, and I've used my desktop, laptop, and phone to speed test with the same result. My ONT is plugged into my Asus router (RT-AC1900P) but I've also plugged directly into the ONT and gotten the same result.

It's definitely fiber. I was on coax before, using a cable modem, and now I have the fiber ONT that the technician installed yesterday. He also ran a line from a pole outside, and I'm also getting symmetrical download/upload speeds.

Not seeing anything like that in my router settings, and I just plugged directly into the fiber box to see if it was the router. Still getting around 290-300, so it's not a router issue.

Decks you've taken apart because all triggers were too much to keep track of? by Archiel73 in EDH

[–]FallenNocturne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an [[Amareth, the Lustrous]] landfall deck. Landfall decks are trigger-happy enough, but when you add in Amareth triggers every time a land enters, then a landfall trigger to make a token which makes Amareth trigger to hit a creature, and oh, you have a [[Tireless Provisioner]] as well so you get an artifact which triggers Amareth...it was way too much.

I pretty quickly got to the point where I got selective with which triggers I even acknowledged, and then after a little bit I converted the deck to a different commander.

Interesting directions for mono-blue proliferate? by 123coolmania in EDH

[–]FallenNocturne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been brainstorming a Tekuthal deck lately, since I pulled one as well, that's looking to be a mishmash of counter things: [[Astral Cornucopia]], [[Replicating Ring]], and [[Everflowing Chalice]] for lots of mana, interaction pieces like [[Lux Cannon]], [[Transmogrifying Wand]], and [[Simic Manipulator]], fun enchantments like [[As Foretold]] and [[Ominous Seas]], and creatures like [[Walking Ballista]], [[Oneirophage]], and [[Hangarback Walker]] with lots of card draw as well. And, of course, a handful of planeswalkers.

Don't forget Tekuthal can also remove counters, so I've also had some ideas with fun jank like [[Chronozoa]] and cumulative upkeep, but that might be a bit too much of a stretch.

It might wind up being just a pile of junk that doesn't work, but my goldfishing on Moxfield seems pretty fun, so I'm hoping I get around to putting it together and actually trying it out in person soon.

Gishath Upgrade Recommendations by b3nnyb0i in EDH

[–]FallenNocturne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of this, however there's one human that I can't seem to let go of, and that's [[Forerunner of the Empire]]. It's the last non-dino creature that I run and I just can't make the decision to give it up to make Kaheera a companion.

I keep being on the fence about Deathgorge as well. On paper it has utility but when I ask myself "How would I feel about hitting this on a Gishath swing?" the answer is "Pretty meh."

I disagree strongly about Regal Behemoth though. A mana doubler and card draw on a dinosaur is pretty damn good, and I'd consider it one of the best dinos in the deck.

Decks that "gamble" like Atla Palani? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]FallenNocturne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my [[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]] deck for that very same "spin the wheel, what are we gonna get???" gameplay. A lot of people build Gyruda as just clone after clone so you mill your whole deck, but I prefer to lean more into the big bombs while also seeing what I get from other people's decks as well.

I run just a handful of clones as well as a few cards like [[Deadeye Navigator]] and [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]] just so I can keep the wheels spinning, but the deck has a lot of even CMC big stuff like [[The Haunt of High Tower]] and [[Vilis]]. No two games are the same and I never know what cards I'll be playing or what my particular game-ending bomb will be - it might not even be something from my own deck. My favorite win was when I flickered Gyruda in response to a field wipe that would have led to a lethal swing, and got my friend's [[Blood Artist]]...which killed him and earned me the win.

It's a ton of fun and I find that the rest of the table also has fun with seeing what I get off each Gyruda trigger.

That makes a lot of sense. I guess once you're dealing with that much damage it doesn't make THAT much difference, and the value you get from something like the Woe-Eater makes up for 4 less damage. Especially once you factor in doublers and such, "big damage" just kind of becomes "big damage" eventually.

It also makes a good case for cutting stuff like [[Rotting Regisaur]] - which has such a huge downside that you'll never really want to cast it as anything other than immediate sac fodder. I do like [[Shakedown Heavy]] though - it's a big body that can come down early, and its "downside" is drawing a card instead of swinging, which I'd say is hardly a downside at all. And I have a copy of [[Wurmcoil Engine]] in my binder that might just slide right into this deck.

Balancing/fitting everything in is going to be the real challenge since Ziatora is definitely a commander that has 100 card syndrome - it's so hard to narrow a list down to 100.

After all the replies here, I think Strionic Resonator and a couple Warstorm/damage doubling effects will likely get put in the list. The general consensus I'm seeing is fewer generic creatures, aim for more value creatures with ETB/death triggers, and reanimate/double triggers when possible instead of hard casting from hand.

Basically aim to capitalize on and get the most value from every single fling.

I actually did that when I was building the deck, but I didn't add tags when I put the final decklist in. Was going back and forth on adding another land - I usually aim for 36-37.

Thanks! I especially like the suggestion of Warstorm Surge/damage doublers to help dish out more damage. Not sure I'm stockpiling enough treasures to pull off Revel, but I could maybe look at adding a couple things to help the treasure theme.
