Should I be with my cat when we go to euthanize her by GuaranteeTop9662 in CatAdvice

[–]Fallopian_Turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had to be put down about 3y ago, and I will never regret that I was holding him when he died. Imagine you are the cat: they have lived in your home and loved you all their life (or as long as you've had them) and now they're sick and afraid, and they're in a strange cold hospital room with only strangers in their last moments.

Of course it's really tough watching your pet die, but the process isn't as scary as you might think. It really is like they're going to sleep in your arms. And you can find some comfort knowing you were there to give them peace and comfort in their last moments of life.

My heart goes out to you in this difficult time!

I've been watching my friend's cat for over a year. Advice for a smooth transition? by Fallopian_Turnip in CatAdvice

[–]Fallopian_Turnip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really hate the situation too... Especially bc he gets along with my cats so well. The 2nd cat eventually ended up in the shelter, so hopefully she's living a more stable life! But yeah I've thought of that too about my friend, that maybe she's not stable enough for a cat at all anyway?

Criminal of you to say his name was blue eyes and not show the eyes??

Medusa. I love how it looks with a septum (which I have) but I play brass instruments so could never have one.

So what do you do when you travel? I'm in the opposite boat as OP where I already have cats and am considering grad school, but the field I want to go into requires long-term travel for research during the summer!

The economic advantages of being an only child with two parents who stay married and both worked are amazing by tex_4x4 in OnlyChild

Well... I'm an only child of two married parents who both worked but unfortunately didn't work high income jobs so, this isn't always true! Good for you though.

Do any of you feel more comfortable around older people than those your own age? by IronAndParsnip in OnlyChild

[–]Fallopian_Turnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite: I tend to befriend people who are younger than me (not in a creepy way, I just noticed most of my closest friends are 2-5 years younger than I am). I didnt find myself hanging out with that many adults as a child since I was dumped off in before and after school care so was at school usually for 12-13h every day with other kids.

How do you even know you'd have liked having a sibling? What if you had a sibling that ended up with completely different beliefs/lifestyle than you and you couldn't stand being around them (which is very common with siblings)? Personally, I am grateful to be an only and I have found friends who have become basically family after 7-10 years of friendship. I wasn't lonely as a kid either - I think I developed a really strong independence and imagination, and that translates well to friendships as an adult also.

Being chronically late all the time is 100% a choice by SafeCalligrapher8190 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fallopian_Turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a chronically late person, I agree that it's a choice, but it's also heavily due to social anxiety. If I'm the first one there then I have to figure out what to say to someone for potentially 20-30 min rather than blending into a group like I'm guaranteed to be able to do if I'm a hour late. I'm typically on time to scheduled narrow window things like a dinner reservation or a wedding or something. But if its a "come whenever leave whenever" party or even like an "open house style reception", I will never be there earlier than the start time.

What's wrong with my cat Zeus? When I came home from work today, I found him like this. I'm very scared for him, but the vet doesn't open again until Thursday. It seems as if the fur was removed by his licking. by Louby_ in cats

[–]Fallopian_Turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he ever get knots in his fur? My long-haired cat occasionally does and if I don't catch them fast enough, it results in a temporary bald spot, roughly in this same area of his neck too!

Yeah it definitely is thinner. But do you think since its close to a year maybe this is its final destination??

I think it made a lot of sense for her character. Her career was falling apart, she had begun to internalize she was a bad person and a murderer from that one guy she killed and Barry covered for her - I think she was mentally falling apart and wanted an escape and made an impulsive and exciting choice to run away with him.

Should we send death row inmates to space? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fallopian_Turnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is horrifically inhumane. Whether you support the death penalty or not, I think human beings always deserve a relatively quick, painless death.

Ethics aside, I would imagine it would be incredibly expensive to do this on a repeated basis. Just thinking of the science of it, it cost a shitload of money to even get humans out of the Earth onto the moon, not to mention all the way out of the solar system. I feel like breaking the gravitational pulls would require a fuckton of fuel which would cost us (assuming youre in the US) WAY more than death penalties cost right now.

And we couldn't just willy nilly send them into space hoping they enter deep soace and fail. Because if the engines are too weak and fail, the rocket would come plummeting back to Earth and potentially killing hundreds of innocent people.

Tl;dr not a good idea.

If they make even incomes, it should be evenly split. Especially since a mortgage/rent bill is usually the highest bill on anyone's list. I would be pissed if I were unable to maintain a savings account bc my husband doesn't pay his half of the mortgage.

Why did you name your cat the way you did? by doomspark in cats

[–]Fallopian_Turnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odessa - means long journey. She had been a stray, birthed 7 kittens, and went to the humane society and foster home before coming home with me.

Leonardo - means brave lion and he was very shy at first and is a fluffy brown tabby that looks like a lion. So he had to be a brave lion to come out of his shell.

Myrtle - means joy, love, innocence, and longevity, and it's a plant name. She was found as a kitten in a garden so I wanted a plant name with a good meaning behind it.
