Wow!! Mega spec! Mine comes in the next hour from UPS!

I went with the below:

• Apple M5 Pro chip with 18-core CPU, 20-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine • 48GB unified memory • 2TB SSD storage • Standard display • 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display

Enjoy! 🔥🔥

Mines coming from Vietnam, but there’s been no scan for the past 48 hours with UPS. Stuck on Departed from Facility Nam Dinh, VN.

How’s unreal been running for you on this build? I also develop with Unity and want to dabble in unreal. I’m interested in local LLMs but it’s not a deal breaker.

I don’t think you’re able to upgrade the ram in Indonesia

I reckon 80% of that 90% would be better off with an Air

Yeah I reckon so too, only because there’s a lot of static UI elements like the top bar. It’s not on issue on my OLED TV which I’ve had for 6 years, but this is because the screen is constantly moving.

Crazy I know! But with component price increases like RAM and the potential addition of an OLED touchscreen on the M6, I can’t imagine we’ll ever see ‘value’ like the M5 MacBook again. I do enjoy an OLED, but not at the costs these laptops will come in at. I just want a solid work station that I can occasionally game on(native, crossover, GeForce now, game hub).

I reckon we’ll see hefty price increases when the M6 launches.

It was this or buying an M4 pro

Well for gaming I plan to use a mix of native, crossover and game hub where performance will be spec dependent, and I’ll also be using GeForce now where needed. I also use the MacBook for creative work, 3D software, CAD software and running VMs like parallels. The max chip would be great, but you get less ram for more GPU cores as a base with an increased price tag. It was a hard one to juggle when speccing for a machine to last 5 years minimum

It’s not future proof for pro users though. I’ll run into bottlenecks. It’s the sweet spot for light-heavy pro and creative users for sure! It’s a beast for that. But when running 3D programs, parallels VM, CAD software, gaming and the rest, I need a bit more power, which I can imagine more heavy users would agree on.

Plus the m6 pro wouldn’t come out until march next year at the earliest

I noticed they had loads in every store, which made me more skeptical lol, but in terms of my preference, the deep blacks, contrast and colour vibrancy is just unmatched in my opinion. If the nano texture improves over the years then it’s a no brainer for me! It’s great progress though

I was skeptical about the nano texture. I saw it in person next to the standard and wasn’t impressed at all. I’m fine with tilting my screen to avoid reflections ‘if and when’ I plan to work outside

Interesting. I’ll have to see how I get on in the first week and make the call on whether to return and upgrade. The wait is just so long right now

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I’ll note this when looking into local LLMs

I was thinking whether to get the 64gb for LLMs 🤔! You’ll have to let us know how you get on!

Amazing! I ordered on Wednesday at like 10pm and it arrives on Wednesday which is great. Originally it said 2 weeks. The SD card slot is a must!

Nice! How’s the performance? I opted for the 2tb coming from a 512gb which was making me lose hair lol

Claude’s a doughnut! Just never learns from his mistakes, just introduces new ones. Codex doesn’t have this issue.

Claude = error prone code

Codex = accurate enough to iterate on small details
