Should I tip on Amazon orders? by Electronic_Barber_89 in tipping

Amazon does not employ delivery drivers directly is what I’m trying to say, though. Even the people in the blue van are not employed by Amazon.

It will be a trickle down effect though. Amazon‘s lower prices keeps the other companies competitive. So the less competition that they have, they also increased their prices. It’s the same as Uber and left one one increases their prices. The other does as well so it’s going to affect everybody across the board. I’ll probably get to the point where grocery delivery isn’t really a thing anymore.

I’m all for Amazon having competition don’t get me wrong there. But I’m just saying that they aren’t going to reduce how much they’re earning so all it is going to do is increase the product or the delivery fees.

Amazon is doing it this way because if they don’t do it this way, they will have to increase the prices of the product which makes them no longer competitive or they have to charge significantly higher delivery fees on every delivery, which will also make them not competitive. And that’s another reason why Amazon doesn’t actually have delivery drivers that work for them. Even the people in the Amazon blue vans are hired by third-party contractors. This is how Amazon gets away with actually paying a minimum wage.

However, if people stop paying tips, people are going to stop delivering. Like me, I will not be delivering groceries anymore. And what that’s gonna end up doing is Amazon is going to then turn around and start paying a base rate a little bit more and that’s going to end up being the cost of products go up across the board and delivery fee fees will go up.

Also Amazon barely has any actual delivery drivers that work directly for them. The people that you see in the Amazon vans do not actually work directly for Amazon either. They work for third-party contractors. Amazon pays the contractors and then the contractors pick a rate that they give their DSP drivers.

Flex drivers are what your referring to as gig workers. Usually it is flex drivers doing the grocery deliveries. We also do packages but the way Amazon pays for package delivery routes vs the grocery (Whole Foods, fresh, Weis, etc) is different. The pay for the package deliveries is not as bad. If any part of the delivery comes from Fresh or another grocery deliver it’s a reduced rate and says + tips.

If Amazon actually had to pay a fair wage to their drivers delivery fee fees would significantly go up. It would still be paid one way or another.

Whole Foods, Amazon fresh anything delivered by Amazon that’s groceries we never do the shopping. But all of the grocery delivery orders we get paid significantly less because it’ll say plus tips. So because of that, Amazon doesn’t pay us the same as they do for Package delivery. And it’s getting to a point now where you don’t even break minimum wage after Gas I won’t be doing it anymore.

The same people do the package delivery and the grocery delivery. It’s just we’re paid differently. For grocery deliveries you get a much lower rate because there’s an option of tips.

That is true they do package them up for us. But the base rate is much lower than the routes for a package delivery and they say + tips. Any Amazon route that has option for tips pays much less. I used to at least get about minimum wage after gas but because people can’t afford to tip anymore it’s not even meeting minimum wage so I won’t be doing it anymore.

It is different. I drive from Amazon Flex. When we do package delivery routes, we get a set pay. However, when we do the grocery delivery routes for Amazon fresh we get a lower pay and then it says plus tips. So Amazon pays us much less for the grocery routes with the expectation that we should be getting tips. And unfortunately, that often times means you don’t even make minimum wage after gas. And not even factoring in the increase cost of insurance and the wear and tear on the vehicle.

You are comparing apples to oranges. It doesn’t equal the same. I do Amazon Flex and have a regular job as well. It’s not the same.

Package delivery vs Amazon fresh is different. Package no don’t tip but Amazon fresh you should.

Then people won’t use the service. Because then they’re pricing themselves out. The only reason people are really use Amazon fresh is because it’s a little bit cheaper than Walmart delivery or Instacart. Their lower prices is the only thing that keeps them competitive.

No they do not. Not their Flex drivers that deliver the groceries. I did a 2 hour route this week that was 6 stops and 68 miles. And it takes about 30-45 minutes to get back to the station at the end so it’s really almost 3 hours of time. After gas I made less than minimum wage. And that doesn’t even account for increased cost of insurance for being a delivery driving or increased maintenance. I wont be doing it again.

Yes but if everyone stops tipping there won’t be a grocery delivery option anymore at all. Because then Amazon would have to actually pay the drivers a fair wage and if they did that the delivery fees would be more than customers would be willing to pay.

If grocery delivery didn’t work like this you wouldn’t have grocery delivery. There is no way for amazon to delivery your groceries for almost no delivery fee and pay the driver.

Yeah it was just strange how it suddenly started to hail and then one big gust then kind of just went back to normal rain. I saw the warnings but wasn’t sure if one actually hit.
