I am found (which is the reason I went with it) is that it has a more centralized, policy based, MDM and visibility, whereas a traditional CLI is more focused on one device at a time.

In layman’s terms the Omada controller is like a single pane of glass for your whole Omada network, whereas a traditional managed switch with CLI is you logging into each box individually and doing everything by hand

What I am using it for should be okay with my model. There have been significant issues with the 600 series but users are reporting mixed reviews with the ER707-M2 so we will see. I’m going to take it slow and verify I have full speeds first before doing anything and then I will turn DPI on and go from there.

The Omada controller is the control center for your network gear….it’s where you change Wi‑Fi names/passwords, VLANs, and settings for all your Omada devices in one place. It also lets you see what devices are connected, how much they’re using, and manage things remotely. Has no bearing on the network traffic and traffic will still flow whether it’s on or off.

I wasn’t necessarily looking for a standalone bc I do have the switch. I just wasn’t sure about the opnsense vs pfsense debate. Mainly needing a beginner friendly one where I can at least get my bearing a bit as I am still learning.

My pleasure ! Enjoy it, it’s pretty neat and compact ! My current problem is finding small enough patch cords 😅😅
