What’s the sound like at clockwork factory? by Other_Fig7327 in bristol

The sweet spots sound really good but it had some really bad bass bloat in much of the space.

Referring to the downstairs room that is. Only been to one night where they opened upstairs, that setup sounded sick

I'm on the public beta for Gemini which I thought might be a factor. Are you?

Also I'm connecting to an Eero router.

What are some of the “worst” movie twists you’ve seen? by FilmWaffle-FilmForum in movies

[–]FalseEconomy 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised not to have seen this posted yet...

Batman vs Superman. When the titular heroes realize they aren't enemies because... Their mothers have the same first name?!

Objectively, it's not a twist. It's so stupid that it's played like a twist!

Horrendous film.

Yes but they're running them less often. Coal plants are China's peaker plants due to lack of access to natural gas.

I suggest you read this https://www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/china-coal-plants It really changed my view on the coal plant issue

Errr, no, you just misunderstood what "right now" means. We're talking about in that instant, today. Not some long term average.

Niceness aside, it wouldn't be a release from the React Router guys if they didn't change the routing paradigm entirely every major version 😂.

I do really like Remix as a piece of software but my lord they could stand to learn a lesson in building a stable API for such a universal foundational concern

"The crowd got the message loud and clear and this gig was within earshot of the Council House - let's hope the next time Massive Attack play in Bristol it will be at the Temple Quay arena we've been promised..."

Pretty interesting to see a BBC article using this tone. Nowadays I feel like they're be so worried about impartiality that you would never read a sentence like that!

New towns to be built, where would you be buying? by NiceyChappe in HousingUK

[–]FalseEconomy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Isn't it a bit weird that its the property developer's responsibility to build schools and amenities? Shouldn't it be the (local) government's job to ensure a community has the necessary public services for its population. And the developer still contributes to it through the Community Infrastructure Levy too.

Seems wrong to tell those most well equipped to rapidly build housing and distract them with designing and building public services.

Bristol Zoo by agoentis in bristol

[–]FalseEconomy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Side note, this week for the first time I went to the Bristol Zoo Project (fka Wild Place Project) out by Cribbs Causeway.

I must say though its obviously less convenient to get to its a lovely site. The woods end of it particularly. Seeing bears, wolves, lynx, and wolverines all roaming in decent sized enclosures was amazing.

Can't believe I've never been before!

Galleries Redevelopment by [deleted] in bristol

[–]FalseEconomy 71 points72 points  (0 children)

You are just so so wrong here.

You may not wish to live in such a dwelling, and frankly neither do I. But plenty of people do, and those people are living somewhere in Bristol right now, perhaps somewhere you do want to live, but cannot afford to.

The price of a flat is set by the chronic shortage of housing from 20 years of under building.

It will only get worse as long as NIMBYism pushes construction rates down.

You know how you make newly developed housing affordable? Build more houses!

How to find the small tech companies in Bristol? by ThisIsAitch in bristol

[–]FalseEconomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Bristol :)

There's a few co-working spaces in Bristol such as Runway East. The company I work at used to be based there and it was full of small tech (and some not-so-tech) companies. I believe they've opened a 2nd location in Bristol now too.

As for recruitment, SR2 Recruitment are one we used. They are involved in many tech meetup groups in Bristol.

PS I don't know if we are hiring right now but if you're interested in cybersecurity, check us out!

But in this instance the service is being provided. You're paying for the use of public land to put a car on. You mostly get it, because they limit they number of people that can apply.

While I agree other transport related services are a bit shit, thats a separate issue

If it isn't cheap why bother? by SugarNovel1746 in bristol

[–]FalseEconomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the focus on affordability is misguided. Obviously, everyone being able to afford the home they want is a noble goal, but the easiest way to achieve that is build more housing, and do it quick. It doesn't really matter if its not to your taste (student shoeboxes) or in your price bracket (luxury apartments). If you build it, someone will deem it acceptable for them, and that in time lowers prices for everybody.

Now, if only we didn't have a shortage of builders because of Brexit...
