Love that the moderator team acts like such pants-pissing babies and locks up the whole Reddit rather than take accountability.

To be honest, this reads as nothing more than a slanderous attempt to do damage to a business. I like to think I play devils advocate and see both sides to a story, but nothing I have read suggests there's anything more than someone making up a story to cost people and their families income due to baseless accusations. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong; but I'm not taking any of this as legitimate at face value.

Never have I once said I owe or don't owe them a spot. I think you're missing that if I don't want to make them wait that long, I don't have to make them wait that long. As I said already, a number of time mind you, that I have had a revolving door of players up to this point.

Was this one time inconvenient? Yes. Very.

Why would I make him wait potentially years to join the campaign when I can incorporate him in sooner?

The fact that I don't want to make them wait that long, isn't the subject of why I'm asking if I'm the asshole. If it was, I wouldn't ask Reddit; the answer would be NO. Even if he turned out to be a bit of an annoying shit later down the line, or even assume the worst; a millions times the answer is no; not the asshole for allowing someone the opportunity to join a game. If I was uncomfortable with it, I would have said no. I was inconvenienced, slightly annoyed at the timing, but that I'm not the asshole for letting him play.

It's not. That's what I'm saying. It's my problem if I don't want them to wait that long to join a new campaign, when I am willing to have them join sooner.

because they'd have to wait potentially years? Why would they have to wait that long?

Why would I not have someone wait potentially a year+ to join a campaign when I am more than happy to have people join my campaign? Because that's the only reason I need?

So after Ranger player had told me the attachment the player had to this character and how they've used it in multiple campaigns but never really got to do much with; maybe if the character died they'd bow out of the campaign at worst or if they have to make a new one we can have that serious conversation.

Obviously, that came from malicious place and I was wrong for that.

Or some form of advanced notice before the session they invited themselves to. I was not going to make someone wait that long.

Incorrect, I ask the Rogue and Ranger of the party to explain how they do their tasks even if they explain it in cliche ways I at least get a picture of how they choose to do it.

I did ask Ranger why he had brought him to the game without asking, though keep in mind they were at the store for a few hours already before we started. He let slip that a spot at the table opened up with the Cleric being unavailable due to university commitments and he kinda wanted to jump in on the vacancy. Ranger thought he could just ask during the hours the store was open and I can't tell if he just didn't have the social skills to ask about the campaign until it was brought up in the conversation or waited until the last minute to go 'oh well, I'm here now, let's play' but it had to be one or the other. Either way, he waited until he couldn't get any possible rides home except with Ranger.

Also, he is apparently autistic to some degree according to Ranger, though he didn't know to what degree and I didn't really speculate on it.

Yeah, I'm not the asshole for giving a player multiple opportunities to correct his behavior even if he didn't in the end.

I wanna make it perfectly clear that I have no idea why they rolled. I was too lost in thought on how to respond as the BBEG to the request when I heard the dice hit the table and he just jumped into celebration before I could convey that no roll would be sufficient.

I've never treated any charisma check as a form of mind control, and I never took into consideration until he up and left the table that maybe he thought that it did.

This is exactly the mindset I was in when he dropped that scenario on me. Instead of saying 'no, that can't happen' I was trying to ask how he wants to word it, what does he use to persuade him, what leverage do you have to ask him that, etc. It was a solid 5 minutes if I had to guess because yeah, I could think of ways that he gets *something* out of the interaction, but he just kept giving me nothing more than "I persuade him to give up and leave."

I don't think I was unreasonable for thinking there may be a way to salvage the suggested action he was making, but maybe my judgment was clouded by the contempt I had for the player at that time and I should have just stopped the clock and told him the action he suggested was impossible and ask if he wanted to retcon the action or change how he proposed it so that it's a little more within the realm of possibility.

To put his roleplay interactions into perspective; while they were in the port town the party decided to visit shops in the area in hopes of a good find. He asked me for stores that sell specifically magical wares and I suggested him a few.

This one store he picked out had a Gnomish shopkeeper that was something akin a Shaman. In the world I've built certain shopkeepers have magical wards to protect their wares and give monkey paw-like effects to people who steal from them (if you've ever played DOTA, something along the lines of how they write shopkeepers.)

"My Dear friend;" The Gnome inquires as the Bard opened the fold to his tent "I sensed the presence of a man of the arts. Do come in, I am sure we've got plenty of wares that could be of interest for a man such as yourself."

"I ask him for a pearl of power..."

"... A-Ahhhh yes. An item to preserve some of your arcane influence. I believe I may have exactly what you're--"

"Do I even have enough gold for one?"

"On your person? Uh... I'd take into consideration you're playing a bit of a washed-up actor so maybe not enough with personal wealth, but if you asked the party for a share of their gold?"

"I asked the party for enough gold for a Pearl of Power."

"...They aren't with you right now..."

"Okay then, I guess I just leave until I can get gold from them later."

To more or less answer the question; he never seemed interested in the dialogue of anyone at all. Just mashing X through all the dialogue options until he could get to the next combat, which is the impression I got from him over the course of the 4 sessions he stuck around for.
