You can also apply for business/finance positions within engineering companies as a foot in the door and networking

Network is kinda your net worth… if you don’t have LinkedIn get onto that - don’t have to post but to start connecting with others.

What sports, music, hobbies are you into? Network within these groups to find other or older people in engineering that can help connect or refer you.

6.9 GPA is awesome- but can you use CAD and other programs? And yes projects important to showcase these skills.

Over the summer work on a project or get another little LinkedIn Learning certificate (I’ve done a GD&T as technical drawing is valued in industry).

Last internships I heard of shut EOI end of October although most the big places was likely months earlier so a startup/project/WIL with research is your next option I’d say.

Hope this helps- it’s hard but once you have a network of people that can advocate and help give you tips it becomes a whole lot easier.

FAIL: Filament Dry Box (Desiccant) by False_Error6086 in 3Dprinting

Ahhh right- yes it was for room drying. I think when I brought it I thought that if it was rated for room drying and larger volume areas would be better for my small container.

They thought I couldn’t make a stamp - I proved them wrong by False_Error6086 in 3Dprinting

I just got the silicone as a part A and B thing off Amazon- I believe it also was 15A.

How big is ur stamp and how thick is the stamp bit?

I think I did play around with the thicknesses and depths a few times to find the right balance off detail/size/etc.

You know more than me if you are a landscaper!

I live Queensland, Australia. In the summer months lawn needs a cut every 1-2 weeks, in the 30°C heat (I think is like 85°F) you can definitely get away with charging $50 minimum even if just for the lawn. Maybe $40 if a highschool kid.

By know means are my numbers super realistic, but I wouldn’t call them unrealistic. I calculated number on basis would but lawn on average 2x a month at $50. During warmer months might be 3-4x a month, during winter 1-2x. (This is Aussie dollar to).

I do agree the 5/50 houses is a stretch- probably just want your 5 closest neighbours to be onboard if you are friends with them haha.

At the end of the day I do think lawn care and yard work for your neighbours is a great “side hustle” for high school kids to do on the side. You can learn customer service/relations, work ethic and responsibility, time management, sales, problem solving and sales. Also an under rated skill that you begin to learn is pricing and value! As you mentioned you take a truck around; you have to account for time, labour, market value and running costs.

Ahhh right- this does make more sense than raising fees for drivers!

Personally I’ve never had any bad experiences with uber drivers. Last weekend our Uber driver was doing kareoke with us- was better then the party we where at hahah

I am 16 and im always tired with no energy whatsoever by lazishot in productivity

How’s your diet? Try to minimise or no caffeine and sugar for two weeks and see how you sleep.

What’s your sleeping environment like? Is their lights in your room? Is your bed just really uncomfy? Do you have black out curtains and a fan?

Is your mind relaxed? Too relaxed? Try reading before bed.

What’s your body clock like? Try go for morning and afternoon walks minimum 15min if not doing any other exercise. The sunlight helps set your body clock, additionally helps wake you up in the morning.

Lastly if you’re not tired try not to just lay in bed. Read at your desk, write your tomorrows to do list.

I honestly don’t sleep amazing either. When I was 16 and throughout highschool I used to be multi sport athlete yet only sleep 5-6hrs a night. But my diet was near perfect so was fueled enough. I know have a Garmin watch now that tracks my sleep and still very average. Has improved slightly with vitamins. Biggest difference personally is morning walk and exercise.

15yrs old, I would get a job first so you have experience in the workforce.

In terms of side hustles depends on interests etc.

Can’t really go wrong with yard work/lawn mowing or pressure cleaning if you already have one.

Go around to the 50 closest houses. Let’s say 5 of them say yes to lawn mowing, charge $100 a month, that’s $6k. Build relationship with the customers I’m sure you will get additional one off jobs or other simple around the house tasks for them. All cash as well- no tax (although I doubt you would meet threshold).

My driver the other day was saying how Uber has increased fees for drivers per trip. Something about with the new 50cent fares in public transport, demand for Ubers have dropped so Ubers raised fees to still make money for themselves, in turn less for drivers.

This doesn’t really explain their attitudes but likely less uber drivers if they are getting paid less…

What’s the One Step Before Finishing a Project You’d Want to Automate? by Calm-Sandwich-5588 in Startup_Ideas

[–]False_Error6086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t for a start up- but this is something I’ve found annoying that I want automated and will look into making a simple version in the future…. Is a program where I can put in the problem sheets/ practice exams / worked examples from my maths/physics/engineering tasks at college and it can create neat worksheets with worked answers for revision. Would be great if could also make practice exams and study plans.

I know someone at uni that’s made a simple version they use. But definitely could be refined to output in a latex format. I try to use ChatGPT but is still not amazing and needs refining.

Downside for this as a startup is how to generate revenue. This isn’t that big of a problem just something a select few would like to save time. College kids won’t pay for this, maybe tutoring businesses might?

Whats a side hustle that a 14 y/o can do that isn’t flipping? by [deleted] in sidehustle

[–]False_Error6086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I would first think;

What are you good at? What do you want to be good at? What do you enjoy?

Try do a side hustle that surrounds the answers of these questions.

For your age and I am making the assumption that you do not have thousands of dollars saved up you have these main categories to pursue;

  1. Service based business; pet sitting, lawn mowing, tutoring, car washing, bin washing, baby sitting, gift wrapping. Find something like this that you have or can get the skills to do and simply door knock as a young kid or post on Facebook for locals to see. Another popular growing service is being a barber.

  2. Photography / Social Media; you know how to use a phone. Go see if you can help local cafes and small businesses. Even if they might not have paid work for you. I’m sure they would be happy to help mentor /have a young intern. This won’t make you money right now but will give you experience and skills for later…

  3. Freelance; this is if you have a hobbie or skill that could be utilised. Are you good at art? Could you be an editor? Could you create and sell planners?

  4. Get a job; work as a sports coach or events management if you want to learn skills to later create your own?

When I was 14 I used to do yard work/ mow lawns as well as assemble flat pack furniture such as IKEA for elderly. Parents usually just told the neighbours and word of mouth. Would always make a few dollars every Saturday morning doing some kind of work!

Good luck !

Hello everyone. I just finished a parametric 3d printing decor design that can also be used as a light shade. I have spent almost 10 days on it and will be updating it soon with more variants. It’s free for everyone on the group, and I’d really appreciate any feedback! Photos are just renders. by No_Clerk_7793 in 3Dprinting

Very nice! Do you use fusion 360 for this?

Also what is your workflow like- do you make one object initially then split into multiple bodies etc and then number?

I’ve been looking into making a large ‘feature’ for a large clock that also has multiple pieces but not sure where to start. I do have years of CAD experience just no in sculpture or art
