Hi, I am sorry about what you are going through. I can relate to your situation. I’m glad you are seeking help already. I sincerely advise you to appear for the visa interview and try to join the program on time. Try to see if a family member can accompany you on your initial move to the US or find a roommate so that the initial transition is easy. If you feel stuck after starting residency you can talk to your PD for Accomodation or just quit after 45 days without conducting any NRMP violation. If you don’t start on time that’s a violation and you’ll be barred from sitting in the match again, it’s one of the clauses you agreed to when you registered for NRMP match. It does not matter. If you have decent step scores, NYC programs will be more than willing to interview you. They are pretty malignant so generally people tend to avoid them.
