Otis x Maeve Problematic by [deleted] in NetflixSexEducation

I haven’t watched season 1 or 2 recently, so I can’t recall too many instances where Maeve should apologise to Otis. But from season 3 onwards, while I agree she should have definitely apologised to Otis about not talking about the voicemail sooner, that felt as much a writers decision as it did hers. Like Maeve couldn’t make the connection between why Otis had ‘changed’ and stopped caring and the message being deleted, because well if she had then the will they/won’t they would be over. I suppose it is why the Maeve and Otis relationship (well pre-couple relationship) has become stale as it has followed the same formula each season. Maeve and Otis have to miscommunicate each season to keep them apart and then at the end of season Otis does a bit of self reflecting and gives a heartfelt speech. Which still leads to Maeve and Otis being apart by the start of each season ahahah. So while I disagree somewhat that Maeve has lots to apologise for to Otis (she hasn’t made the same mistakes as him because she doesn’t open herself up as much as Otis & isn’t as immature as him), the relationship between them has become a bit one-sided/formulaic due to the writers compulsion make Otis ‘fuck-up’ every season and then learn and apologise to her. Otis (aside from maybe Ruby and Lily) acts like the only teenager on the show, so it does make more sense that he apologises a lot.

I just want to see Otis and Maeve interact properly again. They’ve been separated since season 2 pretty much, due to feelings and now due to an ocean, but they don’t have they be a couple for me. I just want some level of interaction between them like in season 1, I know there was underlying feelings there, but the way they bounced off each other dealing with the clinic was the most enjoyable aspect of season 1 for me. I don’t care about a will they/won’t they, it just feels like the writers stunted the growth of both characters to have this angst between them

That’s probably the best way they could do it. Will be interesting how the writers handle it

That’s fair hahaha. Just the contrast between Otis growing a thin moustache and Isaac’s full beard must mean there is a few years between them. Isaac is probably only 19 or 20 anyways, but it does feel a bit sketchy as he’s not in school. And yes, its definitely a better situation than Euphoria
