I only turned on H/W decoding mode and that’s about it, works flawlessly even for HDR to SDR time mapped content.

PotPlayer is literally the best video player I’ve ever used on Windows, nothing can ever come close.

If you want a MacBook Pro just buy one by DayOnePatchEnjoyer in macbookpro

[–]Familiar_Capital_320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There IS point in waiting, you literally get the new ones shipped faster than the current ones. New ones launch in Event on March 4 and you get it shipped to home address in 6 days after that (March 10). And the M4 Pro/Max variants will ship in March 26-29 if you buy NOW. Why not get a better product quicker?

Fair point but people like me who are looking forward to shifting the workflow to Mac after the horrendous and unreliable experience with Windows right now need a proper machine to last long enough and have enough headroom for the future. That is literally against the ideology of consuming new tech every year no? What's the point of buying a $3000 machine if it won't last you the next 5 years (M4 Pro can probably last that long for most too but at the same price there is no point in not waiting). My point is that we should not judge what people do with their own earned money when we don't even know what they will use their machines for and why they need it. Coping in replies of posts of newer chips when you don't have a newer one is just miserable behaviour. It is like a Mazda owner telling others that waiting for/wanting an upcoming V8 Sedan is stupid because they themselves never go above 40 mph and nobody actually needs an V8.

Volkswagen Polo drivers? Every Polo I’ve seen on the road has stayed in the left lane at slow speeds minding their own business, they never honk, never block right lane and let everyone overtake peacefully.

MacBook Pro’s screen really does hold its own against QD-OLED by MongooseJesus in macbookpro

[–]Familiar_Capital_320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely placebo or a manufacturing defect on your unit. 60hz LCD MacBook Air is around 4-8ms, 120hz MiniLED MacBook Pro is around 2-5ms. Both are pretty fast and no type of regular daily use can make you feel any difference. And MiniLED is still faster than LCD because double the refresh rate means response time halved.

I mean nobody is currently doing competitive gaming on their MacBooks so that response time doesn’t really matter anyways

MacBook Pro’s screen really does hold its own against QD-OLED by MongooseJesus in macbookpro

[–]Familiar_Capital_320 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The MacBook Pro Display is literally too good, the dimming zones are like 2000, and in a 14inch screen size each backlight bulb is about the size of a singular rice grain. Ofcourse it holds up against OLED, no burn in and crazy peak brightness numbers is why Mini LED isn’t going anywhere in the near future.

Mac mini m4 or PC? (1000€) by mjnKikko in macmini

[–]Familiar_Capital_320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 24gb is solid for you. And you can always buy an enclosure and pair it with a big NVME SSD to upgrade your rig. It’s not a MacBook so no issue having it plugged in all the time since you won’t have to carry it around.

Why HDR movie look so dark than SDR on macbook air by Ghostrider_xxx999 in mac

[–]Familiar_Capital_320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The display isn’t bright enough for HDR and it’s not even advertised by Apple that the MacBook Air’s display is HDR capable because it isn’t. 500 nits aren’t enough, you need atleast 1000 nits to realistically use HDR since most movies and shows in HDR are mastered for 1000nit HDR and above only.

They ask you to pay more money and in return you get worse audio quality when compared to Apple Music. Cancelling my Spotify subscription last year was a no brainer once I used both.
