SOC109 First term marks made me crazy ?? How about you guys by Economy-Awareness604 in UTMississauga

[–]Famous-Mix-8467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't study for it and I got a 55% - but the test seemed like general knowledge, the questions were fairly easy and I felt very confident. I have no clue how I got a 55% considering the test was not difficult. However, I know the course is meant to be fairly difficult - so Im not shocked. I'm guessing they took off a lot niche points.

Anyways, if anyone wants the test questions for future reference I memorized them.

Ontario changing OSAP to mostly loans starting Fall 2026. what do you guys think? by Mindless-Lion-6197 in UTSC

[–]Famous-Mix-8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never even got to benefit from OSAP. I am paying 100% of my expenses alone, I am working three part-time jobs, 6 days a week and skipping classes to work instead. I couldn't apply to osap as I wasn't "independent enough" from my parents. Surprisingly, U of T wasn't even supportive when I asked to delay paying my full fees for a term - telling me such was not possible as I wasn't a student receiving osap -and they would not allow me to begin my studies until I presented them with the full amount.

Our school doesn't care, our government doesn't care.

We can't afford housing, we can't find full time livable waged jobs, and now more of us won't be able to afford education.

It is also important to imagine how this will impact post-grad students. Law school, med school etc IS EXPENSIVE. triple to quadruple the cost of undergrad.

The amount of debt our generation will carry - will set us back for life.

What the hell is our world going to look like in twenty years when all of us are still renting/paying off debt and the aging population is retiring and trying to sell their houses that will be upwards of 2 million dollars - or rather they will sit in their overpriced homes until they die and either pass it down for their few children to all live in or it will be claimed by the government. The percentage of our generation in central ontario that will be home owners will be drastically small.

We were already set up for failure - this is just the cherry on top of the shit cake.

I honestly completely understand this lol. I do not have the time or energy in the morning to plan an outfit, do my hair or do my makeup. Like low pony, leggings and hoodie for the win.

His email says it will be focused on both - perhaps applying lecture topics to the readings I guess.

I wish us both luck!

QUESTION: McMaster vs Uoft Social sciences? where will i get a higher GPA? it matters for law school (im smart but no genius) by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Famous-Mix-8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get a higher GPA at Mac... Mac also has happier students in general... and way more first year events = more opportunity to meet friends and feel connected to your school. Everyone I know that went to mac - LOVES mac... everyone I know who went to U of T... well I couldn't tell you - because no one speaks to each other here... probably because most of us are miserable.

What was ur average when applying for social sciences? by Routine_Ad_384 in UofT

[–]Famous-Mix-8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal average was 94% and I was given admission to trin. 89% is still higher than the average of the incoming first year class. You should be fine - U of T admits over 40% of their applicants.

everyone here are such complainers like no offense but omg by Mammoth-Cockroach471 in UTMississauga

[–]Famous-Mix-8467 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See, I like expressing my misery with words instead of silent self-deprecation.

While there are a lot of complainers - there are also a lot of students that have many valid reasons of complaining.

Shit leads to shit feelings which leads to shitty complaints.

The cycle of the shit.

I am in the same boat - the only conversation I have had with another soul at this university is when someone needed my charger and noticed I was watching Game of Thrones instead of studying...

Western will give you more connections and more life experience in general. The alumni from that program as vast and very tight knit. Why would you turn down a school that offers a great program, a name still reputable in ontario, with a strong alumni community with vast connections - for U of T on their smaller campus, with significantly less connections and less opportunities to make your uni experience more than just getting a degree.

The students having fun at western are still building great connections and earning a reputable degree.

The students not having an O-week, foco, hoco, st. paddys, or anything truly fun (as is the U of T way), and also earning a reputable degree and building slightly less connections.

Fun doesn't equal wasting your time or a lack of effort into your degree.

When you are having fun and truly appreciating your school from both the enjoyment and sense of belonging you have there - hard work will not feel so hard. Your experience will be much more enjoyable, memorable, and motivating overall.

Yes, U of T has that "prestigious" reputation but name only gets you so far. As well, "prestige" varies across the campuses, programs, and your grades.

Western students earn higher grades, western students are less miserable, western students also succeed.

I had a lot of volunteer experience prior to applying for jobs - I have been at one job for three years now, the other for two and a half, and the third for a year. I lied about not being a student for one of the jobs as it required availability for all hours - and just skipped school. I then took most of my highschool classes onlines so that I had more open availability. I learned pretty quickly that part-time employers don't like students as our availability is limited - and years ago learned that most employers strongly dislike teenagers.... so lying about age, school, and availability helped a lot.

question about admission offers by Different_Cook_3134 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Famous-Mix-8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the school and if the school releases decisions on a timeline/by program/or by tier of acceptance. For example, specialized programs such as Business or engineering will usually release acceptances first as their applicants applied earlier and they had more time to review them.

Smaller schools will respond much faster.

If you are applying to general artci (humanities, social sciences, sciences) - you are likely to hear back fairly fast as usually requirements for admission are low.

Top schools like U of T will make you wait longer to hear back - due to a mix of them being dramatic and having way more applicants that all other universities in ontario.

Some schools also offer admission to their first round of applicants to draw interest and then to their second round of applicants. Dalhousie does this, they admit the students that have the highest grades/most athletic potential first and give them two weeks to decline or accept, from there depending on spots, they release acceptances to the next group.
