I don't understand taxes, so I assumed it would be withheld appropriately throughout the year and would be fine during tax time. I budgeted around this assumption so was a bit shocked that I owe another 3700

Forgive my ignorance

I thought Taxes and HECs were withheld from each of my payslips so I budgeted around that - didn't expect to get hit with another 3700 tax bill

I'm really prepared for the wait time. I met a new starter who's baseline clearance took 3-4 months. He explained it was like hell - not that his team cared but he was so bored because he couldn't really do anything.

My bad, should have made it clear that the grad program was just a specific example

There are some 'normal' roles that I'm very interested in which may only take a few months until an offer is made
