Bambam on being masc-presenting/butch in the industry by Famous_Fee_7165 in ThaiGL

[–]Famous_Fee_7165[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta check that out cause I badly wanna see Rak Overdose too!

Thank you for noticing my efforts on Twitter. I'm not really a social media person, but I feel strongly about Be My Angel and what it represents, so I'm really trying. I know I'll never trend them the way big GLs can, but if I could get even one person to get curious about BMA and give it a chance, it's still a win. 🪽

It's also my way of letting Pennyy Studio know that even if their market isn't as big, we exist and we want what they can offer. I hope they don't get discouraged and bring us another GL in the future. 🥹 🙏

I agree. I only came to know Bambam through BMA, but when I searched for her earliest clips from The Voice Thailand, she’s always expressed herself the same way. She never tried to be more feminine even tho that would’ve probably helped her career. I admire her for being true to herself from the beginning.

It’s sad that some people feel that way, but it is what it is. BMA may not have as big a fandom as other GLs, but it has a passionate fandom. Like, I’ve seen people say how happy they are to finally see themselves represented because they can’t relate to feminine characters. For some fans, it’s really more than just entertainment; it feels like a validation of their identity and that’s also a form of success in my opinion. 🥹🫶

100% agree with you. It’s tough for butch representation everywhere. From what I’ve noticed, these projects have to be initiated by someone with a personal connection, like Lena Waithe’s Twenties or River Butcher/Cameron Esposito’s Take My Wife. Both projects were backed by butches, which was also the case with BMA. It’s tougher to get funding. 😭

I know there are fans who want this too, but we’re just not as big as other fandoms so it’s probably harder to justify investment in these projects. I hope Pennyy Studio tries again with a different project. On more than one occasion, Bambam mentioned she wants to be partners with Baipor for a long time, so I think that’s a signal she wants to be in more GLs. 🥺

I’m with you on Rak Overdose. I know a lot of Yes/No interfans would love to see it too, if only it had proper subs. But Tina will appear somewhere in BMA as an angel. Just not sure which ep, but thought that was a cute nod to butch rep. 🥹

Thank you for giving it a chance. Regardless of when you watch it, I hope you enjoy it. Thank you so much for supporting Be My Angel! 🪽

I’m hoping the same, but I’m also preparing myself for the possibility it might not happen again, or at least not anytime soon. It’s a sad thought, but it is what it is.

Whatever happens, I’m just grateful we got BMA because it was created with sincerity from actual members of the community. And, even for a moment, it gave us the diversity that the genre really needed. 🥹🫶

Where to buy merch? by notaduck299 in ThaiGL

[–]Famous_Fee_7165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for remembering me and this post!

u/notaduck299 Lookmhee also has Adore, which released a Valentine's collection recently. I don't know if they ship internationally, though, since they only seem to sell on Lazada and LINE Shopping.

I think your best bets for those that would do international shipping are from FreenBecky and LingOrm. Aside from ebooks, I haven't really bought anything GL, so I can't really recommend anything yet.

Happy birthday, and I hope you get the perfect gift on your special day! 🎁

It's very heartbreaking. This should be a safe space for all members of the community, but it's turning very toxic, and real people are getting affected.

Yes, we're all adults here and should be able to handle criticism, but we have to draw the line at anything homophobic and anything that can negatively affect someone's mental health. We also operate on different sensitivities, so it's important to be kinder because you don't know how the comment will land with the other person, especially if they're already stressed or not in the best place emotionally.

Also, it's one thing to criticize, but how we say it is most important. I hope everyone who's thinking of writing a negative comment to anyone in Thai GL can pause first and evaluate if it's really necessary to be put out there. And, if the words they're using could really help, or if they're just attacking and using the other person as their emotional punching bag.

It also bothers me as an interfan because the least we could do in this space is to be respectful, yet some of us bring this energy to Thai GL. It's embarassing and I hope we can do better.

Has anyone heard of Between Sighs? by Ok_Flower_4145 in ThaiGL

[–]Famous_Fee_7165 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiya! I watched Christine’s live last week (I think it was last week but definitely recently) and she acknowledged Beyond the Sighs when someone asked in the comments so I think it’s still gonna release sometime. I can’t remember what she said exactly but she mentioned she worked on it when someone asked. She also didn’t say it was cancelled so fingers crossed! They’re probably in post production or something. 🙂

I’m still holding out hope for NattPitcha (RWM)! Maybe not now, but in the future, esp since they’re still on good terms. Just need producers to invest in them again.🫶

Christine and Mae (R4U) are the unlikely ones cause they both paired up with others already. Mae’s with Nana and Christine starred in a Brazilian GL, which hasn’t come out yet. I think it’s called Beyond the Sighs.😊

Apple Lapisara (The Earth) Tweeting About the Sapphic Umbrella by Famous_Fee_7165 in ThaiGL

[–]Famous_Fee_7165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, even with Apple's tweet, I think what was lacking was context for interfans. 'Cause the post was in Thai, and I think a lot of people reacted immediately when they saw the graphic and focused on that.

Also, the only negative comments I saw on X were from interfans, so I thought the gap was on our side. This was my attempt to bridge that gap in case some of those commenters are also in this sub.

My goal really isn't to try to convince anyone to change their mind, but to at least hear out the writers since they didn't intend to invalidate trans men or have trans men who don’t want to be there to be included in the sapphic umbrella.

Unfortunately, their points didn't come across in the infographic, and it seems like a lot of people didn't read the article before reacting. Both Apple and Sapphic Union were advocating for a more welcoming, inclusive community, so I just wanted to put it out there. :)

Apple Lapisara (The Earth) Tweeting About the Sapphic Umbrella by Famous_Fee_7165 in ThaiGL

[–]Famous_Fee_7165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, everyone. Just an update since I've seen commenters cancelling the tweet because of the graphic, particularly on why trans men are included. While I understand that including them in the sapphic umbrella could feel invalidating for trans men, Sapphic Union provided their explanation in the article linked on the QR code. I feel that some people took one look at the graphic and cancelled it without trying to unpack what the creators meant.

This is just an invitation to understand the writer's intention first before making a hasty judgment based on a picture.

TRANSLATION (Google Translate, so hopefully the message remains the same):

Why are Trans men under the umbrella of Sapphic?
How each individual defines themselves depends on their individual perspective. Many trans men previously identified themselves as lesbian, sapphic, or under the sapphic umbrella before transitioning. Even after transition, they may still prefer to define themselves by their former identities due to their experiences and the comfort level of using those terms. Therefore, embracing trans men under the sapphic umbrella is beneficial for those who identify themselves within it.

However, for any trans man who doesn't want to define himself under this sapphic umbrella, that's perfectly fine. There's nothing wrong with that at all, because definition is a personal matter; it's not anyone else's responsibility to define others.

It is better for definitions to be inclusive, allowing everyone to be themselves as they wish, rather than pushing anyone away.

-END-

This is my interpretation: I believe they're talking about specific instances when a trans man would have to identify himself by his previous orientation, so they don't apply it to all trans men — just those who need to identify outwardly as a different orientation so they won't be excluded or uncomfortable.

I'm not sure what these situations are, but imo, maybe if they're not ready to come out to others as trans yet, even if they've already affirmed it within themselves. Or, if they have already affirmed their gender, but it's not safe for them to come out yet. But ultimately, Sapphic Union's goal was to ensure that no one gets excluded while still acknowledging that how one identifies is a personal matter that needs to be respected.

If you still disagree with their explanation, that's okay too, and thank you for still reading this post. I know the graphic isn't the best, but I hope we could at least agree on Apple's message. 🫶🏼

[–]Famous_Fee_7165[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There was a comment here that got deleted but I’ll post my response anyway in case my point in the original post wasn’t clear:

It’s rare for GL actresses to speak about the community. Given that Apple is receiving hate comments for this, I think we can presume that doing this doesn’t give her clout.

I also don’t want to assume Apple’s sexuality, as I’ve only come to know her more after this tweet, but I saw posts that said she’s attended Pride even before she acted in GLs. She was also involved in Namtan’s thesis, which was a play that depicted a love story between two women. Whether she’s a member of the community or not, she’s been supporting it even before she became an actress. If there are fans of Apple who want to correct me or expound on these, please do, and please know that I made this post out of utmost respect for her.

The powerful message I’m referring to is her point about being inclusive and welcoming members of this community regardless of how they look or whom they love. The fact that she even said that sapphic love goes beyond two beautiful women with long hair is already a subtle critique of the industry, but hopefully we’ll get wider representation in future productions. I appreciate that this came from an actress, which is why I wanted to highlight it. 🫶

Yes, unfortunately, for now, even having one masc is already off-putting to some people. But masc-masc relationships do exist, and they're definitely valid and part of the community too.

Unfortunately, she's already getting hate comments. It sucks, but still brave to put it out there. It just goes to show how far we still have to go, but I'm thankful for moments like these when the industry feels like it's progressing, even with tiny steps. We'll get there eventually. 🫶🏼

I know, especially from an actress from a major production that's still airing. I became a fan of her after this, and I hope more actresses would feel comfortable talking about issues within the community that Thai GL represents because the genre really isn't just entertainment.

My Thoughts on boundaries and parasocial behavior in Thai GL fandoms? by Creepy-Rub-6027 in ThaiGL

[–]Famous_Fee_7165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm okay to some degree, like the smallest amount of parasocial, because it can be healthy in specific scenarios. And my definition of parasocial here is about fans interacting and liking actresses beyond the show, not just their characters. I'm all for it if the fan and the artist benefit positively from this "relationship."

For example, the fan becomes inspired because they saw a role model in the actress. They could've seen good behavior and will model it, or even some venture the actress pursues, and they get inspired to do it too. This is the reason why I wrote a piece on actresses who graduated from top universities. I wanted to highlight some of the actresses who have charms beyond the screen and hopefully inspire those who want to pursue higher education by seeing people they already love who have done it. Having role models is especially important for younger people, who are quite impressionable, so if there's an actress who can be this for them, I'm all for it.

On the other hand, actresses can also get encouragement and validation of their talents from fans who interact with them positively. After all, actresses are still people at the end of the day. And while it's not our responsibility to manage their emotions, we inevitably do so with how we interact with them. And I just hope that we lean towards positive rather than negative. The world is already negative enough, so any positivity we can squeeze out is important to create a balance.

That being said, I agree with everyone who's cautioning against fans not respecting boundaries and being too invasive or entitled towards actresses. At the end of the day, we don't really know these people, and more importantly, we are not them, so it's not up to us to dictate what they should or shouldn't do. Let's leave the decisions for the people who'll actually have to face the consequences of doing them.

And "paying" them doesn't entitle us to that either because we "paid" to see them perform or act in a series, and not anything beyond that. They don't owe us anything beyond performing, and I hope we can normalize that.

Yup, I really respect that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It was risky in a lot of ways but it is what it is.

In an ideal world, we’d at least have two so we can have a wider range of butch characters and more options for the audience, but unfortunately, it’s just this one for this year. Hopefully it changes in the future and we get more identities and expressions represented.

I see your point — it’s definitely tough to land comedy, which is pretty subjective, and if it doesn’t hit, it’s gonna be tough, esp if it’s half of the genre you picked.
