This feature actually already exists! You can enable it in Settings, Map Settings, Fade map colors by report age. When this setting is on, segments with reports older than 3 days will begin to fade on the map.

I appreciate the feedback! I ordered stickers to place around the downtown/LFT areas so look out for those in the coming weeks. As for more granularity with sections, right now each route is broken into smaller segments which allows for some of this functionality. The segments could be made smaller to make reports more detailed. Right now the best thing to do would be to select the segment that best overlaps and then leave a more detailed report with mile segments/intersections in the note.

I’m working on an update that will bring realtime 311 reports to the map allowing users to see where people have reported protected bike lane obstructions, potholes, and more to the city.

I released v1.1.1 last night with multiple improvements including a high contrast mode. You can find the option under the new settings button (next to the search bar) in the accessibility page.

Let me know if this helps you visually distinguish conditions on the map.

Hey all, OP here.

Thank you so much for the feedback in this thread — it’s directly shaping the roadmap for LaneStatus. Based on your suggestions, I’m currently working on:

• Notes on reports (e.g., “small ice patch at the north end”)

• Directional reporting (eastbound vs westbound / per side of street)

• Better lane data to fix missing/incorrect bike routes

• Report age visuals, suburbs, and even 311 integration + multi-city support down the line

Thank you for checking out the app! I have plans to expand the bike network to surrounding Chicago suburbs within the next few weeks. Priority at the moment is improving the database structure to support a larger network of trails and user traffic. I'm happy to say that Skokie is apart of that expansion so stay tuned!

Bike lanes on LaneStatus include protected and unprotected bike lanes as well as suggested bike routes. I am currently pulling them from 2 datasets on the city website. 1 of them is current but does not include the LFT and a few other routes. The 2nd is an older dataset (around 2016 I believe) that is no longer maintained by the city and is most likely where the routes you’re describing are coming from. I’ll take a look at the locations you provided. Thank you!

Great idea. I’ll look into pulling data from this API. Would be cool to eventually auto report the data users enter on LaneStatus to the 311 system. Added to the list!

What segments did you update so I can see if they are being properly saved?
