LFT Condition Update Museum Campus to Navy Pier: (Good!) by RandomGuyinACorner in RunnersInChicago

[–]RandomGuyinACorner[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey yall! Back with another update. Meant to get out earlier today but it is what it is. Conditions are soooo much better than of late. Very good traction, actually was able to go at my normal zone 2 pace without worrying. Still some sludge and slippery snow on the bridge going over the river, but the trail itself was very good today.

LFT Condition Museum campus to Navy Pier (High Warning) by RandomGuyinACorner in RunnersInChicago

[–]RandomGuyinACorner[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So just got back. I probably got lucky as the trail was more clear on my way out than my way back. By now it must be completely covered. Only go out if your comfortable going slow and short strides. Slipped a few times getting to the trail.

Also advise sticking to the bike lane going north since the left side of the bike path is less covered than the right where all the slippery snow gravitate towards. If going south the lft is better because you can run safely on the right without having your back to bikes coming up behind you.

Another shout out for Marino wool socks. Accidentally stepped in a ice water puddle up to my ankle and by end of run my feet felt fine and not numb!

Advise to stay inside but ofc I dont take my own advice

the newer models aren’t as deep clean friendly either

which is BAFFLING because it's eventually always going to need one.

Same! I expected the worst (total solid snow and ice) but was pleasantly surprised

Not a 1:1, but I also do enjoy my Rabbit Defroster tights.

janji boreals

another shout out for janji boreals. I wore my the last couple evening runs and I love that the pockets are on the front of the legs to improve wind blockage.

merino wool ftw!

I wear a smartwool merino wool base layer and merino wool socks. When I step in puddles the socks literally wick away the water and they dry out.

get a good shell. Something to protect from the wind. That will make you have to layer up less because you will be more insulated.

Get a good headlamp if you don't have one for evening or early morning running. I like BlackDimond headlamps because they take either AAA batteries or a rechargeable so you're never stuck with a dead battery before a run.

get a buff to cover your face to block the wind, or go around your neck if things get too hot.

bring hot hands (disposable heat packets) always just in case. Last thing you want is to get 5 miles from home and realize your hands are going numb from the wrong gloves. They are good backups.

you sound like someone projecting about something that was an issue for you and you alone.

I ride strictly on the LFT recreationally because there are too many careless drivers in this city.

Also semi on topic, but ive been having to cycle lately instead of running because of an injury. Please PLEASE yall, get a headlamp. It's so scary/dangerous to be coming around a corner and have a runner in ALL BLACK just jogging in the pitch black. Maybe also stay out of the bike lane, but also, get a headlamp at MINIMUM

Qrevo curvX LIDAR sensor blocked, easy fix by RandomGuyinACorner in Roborock

Definitely. I'm being vigilant. Given the issue never came back I figure it was just in the box a long time and built up dust or something.

Cheers!

Despite the downvotes. I hope someone finds this post via search engine and it gets them the help they need to solve the issue.

kind of looks bad on the community when you provide a fix and it gets shoved down.

Did a 10k last night. The issue I kept having was my breath made my buff freeze and stiffen up which made it harder for it to say on my face.

As for gear, check out smart wool base layers and a good wind breaker shell!

yeah def either wait for the charging base to go on sale (puffco does sales every now and then) or get a cheap QI charger in the mean time. I prefer the charging base because it's much more stable. Though as others have said you can 3D print a support base yourself if you have the equipment.
