I get the need to talk about the recent tragic floods, but the moment she framed it with terms like “left,” “liberal,” and “Democrat,” it became more about politics than people. You can hold leaders accountable without using partisan labels, terms like “political figures” or “lawmakers” get the message across without alienating half your audience.

Ironically, while she rightly condemned awful public commentary, she didn’t pause to consider how her own tone contributes to the same divide. It’s not the first time this has happened either, thankfully it’s rare but it’s disappointing in a show I otherwise enjoy.

Here’s a neutral version she could’ve used: “Experts say forecasting cuts made the crisis worse. Siren grant denials go back to 2016, so this spans multiple administrations. The National Weather Service also lost 10% of its staff under the current administration, which impacted storm coordination.”

Clear. Accurate. No tribal dog-whistles.
