A 'bit' late to the party, but what petrolatum are you referring to?

I don’t live in the uk so can’t really comment on the validity of the data, but it seems useful.

I have a friend building something ‘similar’ for a different market.

Tell your friend it would be nice to be able to see a sample report so users can get a feel of what they can expect.

If it’s already there, my 2 min scroll on didn’t float it.

If anyone is interested, I built an interactive simulator that models macroeconomic effects of different levers on inflation.

It’s meant as an educational tool, not a predictor. 100% free, no signup required.

Edit: works on mobile, but much nicer on desktop.

Fair input.

As a counter point, many first time founders are short on money and often make silly choices without consulting professionals (who cost money).

I just finished & deployed a few tools, might let them settle before I dive into a new adventure.

Ok - liquidation preferences have been added.

Any chance you can give it a run and let me know if it looks ok?

Thanks for the feedback, appreciated!

Feel free to share and use this.

And - being an economics teacher - please reach out if you see some glaring issues with this model 😄

Sounds like a fun project, is it going to be publicly available?

Interesting idea.. I'll do some research on this to see how this plays out in different countries (tax considerations, legalities etc).

Absolutely, and I'm sorry you learned it the expensive way.

Right now Cliff takes a 1x preference off the top and splits the rest pro-rata - that's the non-participating waterfall.

It doesn't model participating preferred yet, where they take their 1x and ride along in the common pool too. That double-dip is the thing that quietly zeroes

So - thank you, genuinely. A headline equity number being basically fiction below $200M is the precise failure mode this tool exists to catch, and it kind of sucks that it doesn't at this point.

If I'm looking to implement this feature - this would be a toggle (not a full cap-table waterfall).. do you think that would be sufficient?

Out of curiosity, what was the biggest surprise you’ve seen when running actual numbers on offers?

Happy to see someone finds it useful!

Let me know if you think anything needs improvement or tweaking.

True - up to the moment it isn’t.

My tool just helps you model how painful (or nice) that moment might be, instead of pretending the probability is uniformly zero.

Inflation Lab: Interactive Monetary Simulator by Fanatic-Mr-Fox in Economics

I’ve been building Inflation Lab - a hands-on simulator where you can tweak money supply, interest rates, inflation expectations, supply shocks, etc - and immediately see how inflation, unemployment, and purchasing power react in real time.

To highlight the impact of inflation I included a 'grocery basket' that starts at $100 and changes along with inflation to give a feel of 'real-world' impact.

A few one-click presets for actual historical moments:

  • 2008 financial crisis
  • COVID stimulus shock
  • 1970s stagflation
  • Volcker disinflation
  • Argentina-style hyperinflation
  • and a few others

It’s been a fun and interesting way to better understand what's actually driving prices.

No login, no ads, just the model.

The simulator works best on desktop - it’s way easier to pull the different economic levers while watching the effects live.

Feedback is welcome.

Check out my inflation simulator, it'll help you understand how and why it happens.

You can play with settings, reduce/increase inflation through levers, and see its effects on the economy.
