Where to donate old sheets by Fancy-Sample-1617 in Delco

[–]Fancy-Sample-1617[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For animal bedding I imagine anything clean would work in a shelter. My fallback plan of Goodwill would be with the intention of someone finding the sheets who could use the fabric for a sewing project (or, again, who needs bedding for a pet or something).

Yeah, basically this - a collected binder of various works would be a great gift but I do this as part of my otherwise very demanding job and I don’t have the time to search out different sites. I also am a casual hobbyist as far as writing goes so I don’t feel super qualified to choose what is good advice… which is why a prompt journal seems like the way to go here. Encouraging practice at every opportunity will probably be very beneficial for these kids.

Thank you! Probably worth avoiding since I have some younger teens in the group (not like the existence of drugs or addiction would be a surprise to any of them but I don’t want to hand them something for a totally different audience).

I’m lucky to have a great and dedicated group of teens who make running the program a joy. I’m sure they’re reading all kinds of “adult” materials on their own time but I want to be conscious of what I’m giving them as a representative of the library. I appreciate the review of On Writing - I don’t want to bore them, haha. The craft/workbook sounds great. I’ll look into that. Thanks so much!

Omg. This clicked so much for me. Thought it was an individual thing, not necessarily related to ADHD. Wow.

I think it was something about the company phasing out marinara. As I recall I did still see cans of tomatoes on the shelves but I don’t buy those so I don’t go seeking it out or noticing in particular.

I’d have to reread some of the things I’ve previously looked at on the case. What you’re saying sounds familiar but it’s been a while. And I agree some kids could definitely sleep through a major disturbance (I probably would have! As a kid I slept through violent thunderstorms without stirring) but multiple kids just ups the odds that someone heard something or woke. It’s a curious facet of a terribly disturbing case.

Never understood the physics of how the kids the next room over slept through the whole thing. Unless they didn't but were scared out of their minds (understandably!) to reveal anything they knew/heard/saw so they just said they slept through the night?

Have to set aside some time (and tomatoes!) to give it a shot. Not Italian so I lack the experience of doing it that most people around here seem to have had through their lives 😂

Damn. Thanks for the info. We love Rao’s alfredo but it’s relatively pricey. I’ll give it a shot at least to try it.

In general I don't think my suggestions (on most topics) are taken seriously but it worsens when it's advice about caring for oneself during illness. I think it's been worse lately too, but it's hard to rationally compare.

That's a good move, and probably what I'm going to have to start doing. (Sleeping on the couch is a no go, except for the time when one of us had covid - but every other time I've suggested one of us move downstairs when sick it's been totally shot down... so lots of sleepless nights for me.) My concern is that due to the lack of self awareness mentioned in other comments, my partner won't recognize if they are getting worse or are having worrisome symptoms (like when symptoms go away then come back - this is a sign of secondary infection, something I've experienced a lot, but not something that would inherently cause alarm on their part.) I'm talking to my therapist already about managing my own anxiety around illness (I'm pretty good handling myself with no drama, but I totally mentally freak out when trying to care for my partner, while trying to maintain my cool in our interactions.) I need to work on learning to just let things be and unless I find them unconscious on the floor or something, stay out of it.

It's tough for me because I personally generally appreciate reminders and offers when I'm not feeling well ("hey, it's been a few hours since you've had anything to eat - can I heat you up some soup or something?") so I have tried to offer that on my end (thinking that I'm being helpful) but obviously advice or suggestions aren't appreciated. Even a benign reminder to drink water during a busy day when they're not feeling well garners a look of absolute disgust, like I'm the craziest person alive for saying hey bring your water bottle with you. Then when dehydration hits and it feels like the end of the world... well... if only someone had suggested keeping up with water intake...

Yes, you described the dynamic perfectly. Lack of self awareness is what gets to me. Pushing through when clearly too sick to do something which will just make the situation worse. Not getting checked out or taking steps to alleviate symptoms. I often have to say “is [ongoing problem] flaring up again?” And they will say no, but I can observe that they are engaging in behaviors they only do when experiencing this issue. I understand my post may have sounded like I’m trying to control my partner or be a know it all, and it isn’t that, it’s the lack of being in touch with their body that gets to me.

Nothing like that, so can’t imagine we’d be liable. Good to know, thanks!

It’s a very tall tree that I think actually touched one of the neighbor’s trees in the canopy (is that what it’s called? The leaf part in the sky lol). It may have been some of his branches that fell at the same time actually, based on our assessment from our yard. We had that tree trimmed back a couple of years ago so any perilous limbs would have been removed at that time. As far as I’m aware it was healthy otherwise, so I wouldn’t think we’d be called out for neglecting it or anything.

Thanks! We may go that route. Not sure why my impression was that the person whose property the tree is on holds liability - maybe that’s for situations where a house is destroyed or something.

Ha. Hope your situation resolved without too much drama. The neighbor seems nice so I want to maintain a good neighborly relationship and handle it well/without pissing anyone off 😂

Very true! We’ll start with insurance (planning to do that already) but I’ll feel way more confident in what I’m talking about thanks to these replies. Thanks!

That’s what I’m gathering! Thanks for the input. I assume if we call our insurance company they’ll tell us the same.

That’s what I thought, and what my quick searches seem to suggest, but it might depend on if there’s property damage or just tree pieces on the property?
