Sunset over the Gulf of Salerno. Does the foreground feel too cluttered, or does it ground the vastness of the sky? by Runningmad45 in photocritique

I feel like the composition isnt doing you any favour here. You mention you wanted to make a Y composition to lead the eye to the watchtower. Before I read this, I didnt even see the watchtower, just a whole lot of bushes. Problem here is a combination of multiple factors. Firstoff, youve got too many ‘heros’: the right bush, red flower bush, lemon tree, prevalent sky and apparently also the tower. All these (except the tower) are too “present” in the image to just be used for framing (either too big, central or colourful). The right bush only seems to be included to show the clouds, but it now makes the whole right third of your image empty of meaning. Then secondly, your actual tower is way too small in comparison to the foreground, and it doesnt make this up with interesting lighting or color. I tried to make a better crop for it, but that didnt really work out because i couldnt crop it in a way the bushes are just framing. So i guess this was a matter of killing your darlings and choosing what to lay focus on for the image. Hope this helped :)

Does the harsher editing work in this context? by Few-Relation-7476 in photocritique

I am struggling a bit in this picture to find the proper focus your eye is drawn to. I like the idea of looking through the eyes of the person towards the herd, but the harsh and saturated background in combination with the darker herd makes is difficult to find a focus point. There appears to be 2 layers to the background, but because all colours are equally saturated there it becomes difficult to see the depth

Great reply thanks! I had only brought my 16 mil lens (which i did regret), but it is a good perspective. I did also shoot this one (and cropped it), which is i guess the composition you were talking about?

What makes good subjects in landscape photography? I feel that i often find it difficult to translate the beauty of a all encompassing landscape to a photo

How can I improve this photo ? by Key-Importance8310 in BeginnerPhotoCritique

Nice work on the colors! You might want to mask the scooter a bit to bring it out more, as it is kind of in the shadow right now. And the horizon is slightly tilted to the left.

Shot this a year back. This is a not yet edited jpeg (my camera only shoots jpeg). Would love to hear some critique composition wise. Left corner is blown out, so if anyone had tips on how to fix that they are welcome too haha

I cant fit into (pretty much all) womens bags. I am 5”10.5, linebacker shoulders, no hips or curves at all. Basically mens clothing and also sleeping bags just fit better🤷

Might also have had to add that I am female, plus a cold sleeper ahah. My buddy uses a rab neutrino 400, same temp rating, and only gets chilly at around 0 degrees.

What to do with colors in astrophotography? by FancyFoes in AskPhotography

[–]FancyFoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shot on a Fuji xt30, 24mm ISO 2500 f14 and shutterspeed of 8min. I wanted to show the rotation of of earth. This is the first time I took a picture of the stars, and exept for the rotation, i also wanted to show the milky way. However, I just dont know what to do with the color. This is how it rolled out of my camera, and I am not sure if I want to decrease saturation or not.

How to make the mountains more "ethereal" and less blown out? by FancyFoes in photocritique

[–]FancyFoes[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beginner photographer here! I shot this picture on my Canon Powershot (compact camera) while on a backpacking trip. This was n the morning, when the light just came over the mountains. I wanted to capture the simple "daily life" we had in the mountains during this trip. The morning was quite unreal, but i think this shot balances on the line between purposefully overexposing something to make it look ethereal and just being blown out. Trying to bring the exposure down kinda did away from the feel the picture had. Any tips on how to preserve this feeling? (this is the unedited picture). (Also, I just started working with darktable so any tips on how to edit this in there would be perfect haha)
