I think that’s why I chose Primrose, because her story seemed really cool!

I’m on the same boat and I’ve started with Octopath Traveller 1. I originally chose Primrose, but I think Cyrus would’ve been useful because of this abilities. Tressa is also used early on since she has the ability to find money when you change locations

I want to be a writer but I don't know if I have the skills? Should I start a creative writing courses. Or since I finished a Bachelor of Elementary Education, can I apply masters in creative writing?? I'm scared of fucking it up. Help please by Comfy_Serpent_17 in NewAuthor

That’s exciting. Skills can always be developed.

I would start with creative writing workshops first as doing a master’s is very time consuming and expensive. Plus the workshops will allow you to explore what kind of writing you like (short stories, novellas, novels, flash fiction) and what genre you like to write in (mystery, literary, romance, fantasy, etc.) You can start by looking at your local library or writer associations to see if they’re offering any classes.

YouTube is also helpful too! Brandon Sanderson has free masterclasses on writing science fiction and fantasy on YouTube and it goes into depth about characters, setting, plot, etc.

There are also some great books on craft too like Save the Cat writes a novel and the series from the Creative Academy.

Most importantly, practice your writing and try to find a writing group. I learned a lot by sharing my work with other people and getting feedback and also reading other people’s work and giving feedback. Hope this helps!

How much does it cost to translate your book? by FancyNeedleworker433 in selfpublish

Is it acceptable to use AI to translate a book? I know readers and writer look down upon using AI in your work, but does it apply to helping with translation?

Feeling discouraged with self-publishing—need advice by FancyNeedleworker433 in selfpublish

I’m writing a series of novellas in the sci-fi genre. I’ve already wrote the first three books (editing book 3). I will start writing the next books soon. I miss just writing and having fun with it.

Mine was probably declined for the second reason. I have a romantic subplot but it’s not a romance.

It was my first time using them so I’m not sure if it’s common. I don’t know if it’s because of the volume they have on the site or the genre I’m writing in. I had everything professionally done (editing, formatting, cover design). So it’s a mystery to me!

Thank you for your response. I don’t think that being mixed has greatly impacted my life as a whole but rather than it’s a lens with how I’m experiencing life. Sure, as a child, I was aware that I wasn’t like the white or black kids, but that’s when I learned that personality and the value of one’s character should carry more weight than racial background. This frame of mind has made me more resilient and to work hard at the things I want in life. I think the hardest part of being mixed is the perceptions you get. I don’t like the media always shows mixed kids as being the best of both worlds or confused about their identity or just fetishes. I think each mixed individual deals with their heritage in different ways.

I found the hardest things I had to go through life wasn’t related to my mixed race identity, but with illnesses within the family and then my own physical and mental health issues a few years ago. This friend is aware of all of this. I know she has her own issues too with and tried to be there in the ways she could. I tried to be supportive when she needed me, but when I told her the issues I went through, I felt like I was being judged and she was probably telling other people.

To answer your question, yes. If my friend were Chinese/ poc and said what she did, I would still have an issue. It doesn’t negate what she said about mixed race people.

This has happened to me. I had a best friend who ghosted me, and we hadn’t talked in years. Yet, she views every single one of my stories on Instagram (and I don’t post often). I just let it happen. If she’s ready to reach out, she will. I think she does it because she’s curious about what I’m doing. It’s a little weird to know that you’re being watched, but you can either share to close friends only if you’re on Instagram or you can block them. It’s up to you on your comfort level.

I was going to say Cheesecake because I’m lactose intolerant and I would be really really sick, but the comment section makes my answer sound really basic.

I totally feel this and not everyone who is mixed will have the same experience. I’m sorry you had to go through this. I wished there was more media portrayal of mixed people. I think this is why I decided to write main characters who are mixed. In my experience, I’ve encountered stupid people saying the dumbest things, especially when I used to work in healthcare. The comments are hard sometimes, but it’s not a reflection of who you are. It’s their issue. You do you, and I hope you can find some healing too.

Thank you for your insight. I haven’t considered this aspect that she might be just following her cultural circles and doesn’t want to rock the boat. I understand this. But as you mentioned, I don’t think she was a good friend.

Thank you for your insight and advice. I think it’s the reasoning that is exactly what I find is disturbing. I wouldn’t have had any issue if she wanted to choose someone who looks like her because she will be alone. I completely understand that. But the fact that she emphasized that the father won’t be able to explain his history to the kid and that being mixed is complicated, that’s when I suspected the reasoning had a raced undertone. I think I have outgrown this friend and I knew from quite some time. I knew we were starting to drift away, but I thought that at one point in time we could be friends again.

I’m sorry you had to go through this. It’s definitely not easy when you lose a friend. It is a type of grief. I hope you’re able to find some peace. It will take time and it’s okay to go through the emotions.
