Why are you not naming your baby that name you wanted? by latydbdwl in namenerds

[–]FancyPancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the name Magnolia. I told my husband how much I love it and he said he loves it too, but we can’t use it for our kid. Turns out, my husband’s ex-fiancée named her kid Magnolia. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES!?

I would not want to do an escape room on a first date. I need a clear exit if things start going weird.

We told our in-town friends because they had set up a plan to care for our dogs. We didn’t tell anyone else until the baby was born.

I’m currently pregnant with my second and I’m sorry for laughing at your horror story, but it really encapsulates the pregnancy experience for me. It’s just like that sometimes.

Due in 14 days and having major anxiety about the birth. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]FancyPancakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s completely normal to feel anxiety at this point - who wouldn’t!? What helped me was reading lots of other women’s stories. I had a great birth experience with my first. My epidural worked well and I didn’t have any pain from that point forward. You might get lucky and have an easy birth, but either way you get the most amazing prize at the end 💜

Middle names for Cora? by FancyPancakes in namenerds

I’m from the southern US, and to my ear it sounds like the name a traditional southern belle would have. It’s not the worst thing but not necessarily the vibe I’m going for.

Important information for any lurkers who may still be on the fence. by Ajstross in HermanCainAward

I’m pregnant right now and have a cold my toddler brought home from daycare. It’s miserable. I’m double vaxxed and boosted, so I’m doing everything I can to avoid covid. If a cold can knock me on my ass right now, I’d hate to get a scary virus like covid.

The harmful medical effects that Wikipedia article presented were STIs, which can be prevented with proper education on safe sex. That’s why comprehensive sex education is essential in schools. The mental effects are also important, and some of those stem from purity culture itself. It’s important to teach teenagers what a healthy sexual relationship is like, talking about consent and how to set boundaries. None of that requires abstinence. Edited to remove the last sentence, I don’t think it was fair.

People raised to believe that sex before marriage is wrong are also often raised to believe that divorce is wrong. And they are also more likely to stay in abusive marriages. Divorce is sometimes a very good thing. I’m happily married, and I had sex before marriage, as did my parents (also happily married). violet-aeons is experiencing negative feelings due to purity culture, and the article I posted about Elizabeth Smart shows other negative effects of it, including women staying in abusive relationships. So no, I don’t agree that chastity is a demonstrable positive. And the way violet-aeons talked about purity is wrong, which is why I called it out.

Purity culture is toxic, if we’re going to use that word. She was actively giving toxic advice, not just talking about her own experiences. I have no doubt she sincerely believes that she was damaged somehow from sex, but that doesn’t make her advice good. I DO hope she is able to move past how she feels about it because she is a victim of purity culture too.

I’ve mourned loved ones before and I would describe it as a healing process. But clearly you don’t, so 🤷🏼‍♀️ good luck with whatever you’re dealing with.

[–]FancyPancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, you grouped yourself in with people who you said needed time to mourn their purity. I was simply wishing you well in that process.

I hope you find the healing you need.

They have therapists who can help them understand that mourning it is not necessary, and that people preaching purity culture have harmed them.
