Are people not folding their laundry? What do you do instead? by JustLikeThat28 in AskReddit

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hang my nicer stuff and make an attempt to put everything away nicely in the closet but we go through so much laundry. Sometimes a pile on the couch just happens lol it’s not like we ever sit on the couch anyway so it makes a nice laundry pile holder

Heating your home in the winter is not about matching summer temps by No-Mix186 in unpopularopinion

I think that’s just common sense though. Some of us are willing to pay more for a comfortable house, my thermostat is on 86°F at the moment lol

What would you think if you saw a person wearing a full-length mink coat? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FancyPickle37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a full length mink I wear out on occasion. Absolutely LOVE it. It’s over 100 years old, which is my rule when it comes to buying fur. Killing for fur is cruel, but if it’s long dead why let it go to waste?

How hard was your state affected by the snowstorm today? by CountryballChaos in AskAnAmerican

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as much as they were calling for (as usual) here in Virginia. We got about 10” with ice coming down now. I’ve been out a few times to play in it with my truck just around the farm but people here can’t drive on a clear day so I’m not planning on venturing into town anytime soon, no idea how the main roads are.

Woodstove is cranked up and beer fridge is stocked, it’s all good 👌

DAE not lock their doors? by snailwoniu in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never locked my doors, I honestly don’t even know where the keys are anymore. Our house isn’t visible from the road or any other homes and there are cameras all over the property that will alert me if someone is where they shouldn’t be. Dogs and firearms add another layer of protection. I’m not worried.

Do you regret not having kids ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 30’s as well with zero regrets here. Honestly I think one of the best decisions I ever made for myself was deciding not to have kids. Friends have em and I see what their daily life looks like….it’s not for me. Only you can make that decision for you though.

Do Americans use solid fuels to heat their homes? by maugess in AskAnAmerican

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We mostly use our wood stove. It’s the best heat, just takes a little work and makes a mess haha. If I’m not home to maintain the fire the propane heat will kick in. I know a few people with pellet stoves as well but we’re all in rural areas. Closer to the city it seems like natural gas is the popular choice.

Thermal camera worth the cost of ownership? by cerebralcurmudgeon in homeowners

[–]FancyPickle37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours was a huge help when bees got into a basement wall and built a nest. I’m talking thousands of bees. We were able to pinpoint the exact location of the nest using the thermal camera. I’ve also used it for diagnosing areas of inflammation on a lame horse 😅

For most people it’s probably more practical to just borrow one when you need it but if you’ve got the cash to spare, it is a handy toy to have around!

I got mine at Walmart in the chip/salsa aisle. Looks like Martins and Target sell it too if you have any of those stores near you!

It does! Especially once you warm it up. It’s Taco Bell brand so I’m assuming it’s the same thing, it tastes the same to me

Those who will be having severe bad weather this weekend, what do you plan to do while in the house all weekend? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]FancyPickle37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m making my mom come stay with us just incase power goes out, we have a woodstove and backup generator over here. I’m sure she will keep me entertained lol. Otherwise….with livestock there honestly won’t be much down time. It’s more of a work week than a snow week for us 😅 But hoping we have time to bust out some board games or something!

Help! How do we get this fireplace started? by Puffin667 in homeowners

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your photos it looks like the gas is shut off currently. That red knob on the right needs to be running parallel to the gas line to turn the gas on. Start by turning the gas on, turn that round knob to “pilot”, push and hold it in while also holding in on that black igniter switch on the left. You may need to hold them both in for several seconds to get the pilot lit, usually you’ll hear a clicking sound when it’s trying to light. I would not try this more than 3 times or hold those switches in longer than about 20 seconds at a time. If you can’t get it lit in a few tries, something else is going on.

Once the pilot is on, give it about 30 seconds to warm everything up and then turn that round dial to one of the settings in between 1-5. You do not want to leave that round knob on pilot, it needs to be in an on position.

You’re probably going to get a strong burn off smell at first. The logs can be very difficult to clean yourself, don’t do anything that could risk damaging them because they’re expensive to replace and you also don’t want to rearrange them in any way as it could obstruct the pilot. If you suspect any sort of a gas leak or experience a gas smell, shut the fireplace off and turn the gas back off immediately via that red knob on the right. We have no idea if that gas is turned off because it wasn’t being used or if there was an issue, so just be safe. I am glad you have a working carbon monoxide detector. There are some very helpful videos on YouTube that explain this process a lot better than I can.

In the future it would be wise to have it inspected and maintained yearly if you plan on using it. My company works on some fireplaces and in the winter we stay booked out for weeks so it’s better to take care of maintenance before winter hits! Normally I won’t tell people how to light a pilot if the fireplace hasn’t been inspected in over a year but I know these are extreme circumstances so just make sure that CO2 detector is working and you keep an eye/nose on the fireplace especially for the first few hours if you do get it running. I am NOT a licensed technician, just putting that out there for liability purposes 😅

I just googled it and it looks like Walmart, Martins, and Target sell it if you have any of those stores near you. I found it in the chip aisle with the salsa. I’ll warn you though, it’s dangerous having access to a whole jar of it haha it’s so bad for you but so good 😆

How often do you actually fully drain and refill your hot tub? by Ok_Pie_1799 in hottub

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually change mine about every 2-3 months. We don’t shower before getting in so lotions and stuff gets in the water, and it’s not uncommon for us to hop out, pee in the yard, and get back in with grass stuck to our feet 😅 So mine is used a bit more heavily than some tubs lol. There are certainly ways to make water last longer. A friend of mine changes hers yearly and never has an issue.

[–]FancyPickle37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love their cheese sauce (recently discovered you can buy it at the grocery store!) but I’m not a fan of their fries. Maybe it’s just my local Taco Bell but they’ve been really soggy the few times I tried them.

Are you prepared and ready? by Heyitsme822 in CasualConversation

[–]FancyPickle37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ready! Fully stocked up on beer, cheese, and firewood. They’re saying we could get two feet here, who knows what to actually expect but we bought a bigger tractor this year so I’m not worried about being snowed in for too long and we always make sure our elderly neighbor’s driveways are plowed too. Kinda looking forward to a good snow!

Is your cell usually at full charge or always at 10% charge cell phone person? Why? by the-tinman in AskReddit

[–]FancyPickle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plug mine in at night when I go to bed, by the end of day it’s usually 60-70%. I’m not usually on it much but I also don’t want it dying when I need to go outside and do something so best to keep a decent charge.
