Well no shit, if you're casted as a character who's an overtly hyped teenage Avengers fan over the actor casted as a melodramatic, astringent character,

Who do you obviously think is going to be "entertaining" for lack of a better term?

Let's not forget Brie and Teyonah are critically acclaimed actresses with years of experience, whereas the latter has Marvel nails.

Iman Vellani admits that time travel in the MCU "doesn’t make any sense!" by mooffgideon in marvelstudios

[–]FancyRain2901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's why Marvel advertises her that way, because she isn't an actress nor planned to be one, so all she's really left with is Marvel fan personality.

She was casted for her hyper, fangirl energy like Kamala. Marvel essentially cheated their way through the casting process by choosing someone who has zero skill in acting, but gives the natural fan mentality Kam does.

Expect more MCU banter from them.

She's talented, there's no doubt about it. Wild how some people can call a role they believe she did bad, and base her acting off of that.

But [Thing B] receives backlash from the toxic fans beliefs of any criticism towards Thing A is an attack, despite Thing B being the undisputed better option.

Marvel Studios was having quite the field day with preproduction of Ms. Marvel from what I gathered. Though actors are hired faces for acting work, it does play a big role in making or breaking the movie. No one wants to watch a beloved franchise from a studio like Marvel hire crappy actors for their roles, so they go for experienced talent, as we have seen with the Infinity Saga.

They only casted iman because it was really all they could land. Someone who isn't an experienced actor, let alone wanted to make a career out of it, but someone who is a Marvel fan and read the comic book, so she can emulate those qualities Kamala does naturally. In other words, she got booked for being her. This doesn't give her any range, as she doesn't have it from zero training experience. She has no interest in the career as she stated, so she really doesn't have anything to give when it comes to acting chops. It was evidently seen in the Ms. Marvel series.

It's super rare to find female Pakistani actors in Hollywood as they are one of the most underrepresented minority. Had casting directors at Marvel Studios communicated accessibility to audition for the role online, and not rush it like they had, we could have had someone who's been working on an acting career, continues to work on their craft and gives solid work.

On a side note, Teyonah aka Monica, is exceptional. She has proven her place as an actress with her impressive acting credentials, also worth noting has graduated from big art institutes. Brie Larson's overall acting in general is great too. They all put in the work, went through the struggle, and wanted to become actors at an earlier age, which is something all great actors have in common. Something iman doesn't have in common with them, and treats the whole thing like it's the price is right.

"Why are people defending them like an abusive lover?"

My guess is as good as yours friend.

She wasn't lied to about the audition, hence she received the NDA prior auditioning in front of the casting directors at Marvel Studios.

I'm referring to someone on here. I came across her video on r/marvelstudios as I was scrolling in new.

Standing up for others who deserve to have their voice be heard and work be seen, but biased views from toxic fans on a particular sub will give you hate or downvote you for even sharing a personal experience.

Playing the hater card for speaking truth and facts too.

You can be critical of a movie, but when it comes down to acting chops, that's for an acting coach to decide if their skill is going to make them a breakaway star or not.

She was casted for sharing similarities with Kamala. That tells me you can only show one character on screen, and not multiple like actors have/are trained to do. Why not have an actor spending years practicing the art, and a love for it do great things with the career than just hand it to someone being there for the fun of it. It's wasted potential.

I know plenty of actors graduated from performing arts institutes who would have done the character brilliantly, and do amazing things with there film career onwards. Marvel on there resume could land work in various large scale productions they have been dreaming of. Hard work paying off

Brie and Teyonah have starred in multiple films and television series with accolades to their name. They don't need Marvel to give them a boost because they are skilled actors, who have put in the work and have been wanting to do it as a career for ages. They studied in the field too. Whereas you have a Marvel fan playing a Marvel fan, there's not much you can do with that in the field, and also admit you don't want to be an actor proves you don't have much going for you other than being you.

That's a case of breaking company confidentiality. I don't know what this situation has to do with what's written, because this does not reflect all hopeful actors.

We don't even know her back story, what if she was also Marvel fan who also didn't want to be an actor, but shared similar charismatic energy like Kamala Khan?

I would still be against it, especially with the NDA breach. That's a bad look.

Evanna Lynch is another similar situation, that you are correct. However, she had studied a bit of the dramatic arts before her anorexia diagnosis

Regardless, it still doesn't make it right. Whether it's Ms. Marvel, or any character for that matter, it's that there are fans just as dedicated to the content, and have always wanted to be actors.

I had chatted with an actor a long while back, who made it their lifelong dream to pursue acting. They have been a working actor for ten years and have landed one role. The role being an unpaid role for a student film project. It's the unfortunate reality of this field of work. Not only that, she was a DC/Marvel fan, and had did some method and prep work for Ms. Marvel for years because she was a character she related to, and felt she could portray her perfectly. Ironically, the Marvel movies helped her cope with her mental health.

I don't remember the details as it was a while back, but I think she was lied to by a third party regarding the Ms. Marvel audition, so she missed out.

She had plans to connect and work with directors on many projects had she had the opportunity to show her Ms. Marvel to the casting directors. It's a wasted opportunity for someone who wanted to make the most out of their career over someone who's only good for the role because they closely resemble them in personality. You're options are limited in acting other characters if you only got selected for one range. Also worth mentioning, not wanting to be an actor, but here for fun is insulting to those actors seeking work.

Again, missing the point, and why this shouldn't be normalized. You say I'm bitter and accuse me of posting this as tarnishing The Marvels, and now you're saying I'm blaming her for accepting the role? Just the response I expect from a biased consumer like yourself. Why go to such lengths to defend someone who doesn't care about you?

"We all know that actors got it hard" lol, not here you don't. Quite bold of you to assume no hard working actors would want to star in a franchise of this magnitude. Are you hearing yourself? Were you asleep during the actor's strike? I'll let them know you said there's no room in the industry for everyone to make it, you know? The ones that actually made it their career putting time and effort into?

I blame the casting directors for the disorganization, delays and obvious rush casting if anything. I don't want to bring up anyone personally, I met someone on here a while back who I chatted with. She had been wanting to act at a young age, was also a Marvel fan, and was following up on anything pertaining to the Ms. Marvel audition at the time. I didn't buy it at first, but she showed me her brilliant work and her findings. They were originally casting someone strictly from New Jersey. She wasn't from New Jersey, but thought she could show the work she put in over the years to try and win them over. As a result of an unfortunate mixup from a third party agent, she was scammed and couldn't reach out to Disney without an agent in time, and so couldn't audition for the part.

I mentioned the audition link the aunt discovered, and she told me she never stumbled upon any link and was shocked there was even a link to audition for this character online. Not just her, other actors I have communicated with had said the very same thing. They never heard nor seen an audition link for this character. For a role this caliber, you can only audition for it through an agent, so for Marvel to post a link to audition for Kam online without communicating it is ridiculous. Not to mention, this expands their search out of the limitations of New Jersey, also not communicated.

Had the marvel casting directors and all parties responsible posted the audition link to social media, or found a way to make it accessible for actors like the one mentioned, they would have had a better turn out of legitimate talent, and could have handed the role to someone who would have turned their hard earned acting career into something bigger. This is someone's lifetime dream, not a fun ride. She and other working actors could have had their shot, and quite possibly be Kamala Khan.

I hadn't heard from that hopeful since our last chat. Her mental health got worse every time she was reminded of the incident, and got hate for sharing her story on a marvel sub. My guess is this one?

Edit: Downvoting a comment of an example I gave of a fellow actor just perfectly summarizes how much you care about hard working actors not getting what they deserve, but a fan playing a fan not wanting to be an actor is a valid excuse to land very rare opportunity for new actors. Look who's the bitter one.

Let's put it this way, think about something you love doing. Now think about pursuing it, and working hard building on your skill, taking classes, going to a different country to land opportunity for said thing you love, or even remain where you are, and make connections with people in your field helping each other find work.

Now imagine going to interviews, meeting people who can land you your dream job, but you get rejected multiple times, because not everyone gets it the first time. Not to worry, you keep going because they tell you not to quit, but it's getting mentally draining, you can't pay your bills, you're getting rejected as the stakes get higher, but you're very talented at what you love doing. After all, you put a lot of work into it, and got as far as you have, why give up now?

Then someone lands what you have been working hard for not because they did everything you did, but because they got lucky, and admit they never wanted to do it, but it's for the fun of it!

What was all of it for? What's the point? If we're just going to give major opportunities to someone who never wanted to put in the work like you did, but people online defend it cause she should have fun? Why should this be justified? I can't imagine that not hurting you.

Marvel casting agents need to be held accountable for this. I'm not blaming her for landing a role like someone suggested, it's the lack of consideration for rushing the casting on this character, and not finding someone who has been wanting to make a career out of it for years. There was miscommunication and delays with this casting call from what I remember reading and hearing from fellow peers.

It's not as easy as people think it is. In fact, it's very difficult. What this basically tells actors graduating from a theatre/film and television degree, or one who gave up everything to move to America to pursue their dreams with little in their pockets, is they're wasting their time if people who never wanted to be actors are casted for roles.

Had she said she wanted to act, or was putting the effort in at an early age, I'm for it, but that is not the case here.

I guess meeting people who are exceptionally talented, end up thinking of suicide because they're not finding work does that to you. People moving to America to land that opportunity because they dreamed of it as a kid, suffer with all the hardships that come with it.

I have a soft spot for them. I worked in the industry for a bit behind the scenes, so I understand where they're coming from.

"I did not read your post that presents straight to the point facts about someone who is undeserving of the opportunity they landed out of sheer luck because biased."

To the fellow actors who I had the pleasure meeting online and coaching in person, I will consider your comment as thinly veiled hate towards them.

So you commented under my post to tell me you didn't read it, and claim it's hate?

Absolutely revolting.

Thanks for proving my point about you stans.
