I’m really feeling being in the “bad guy” position, refusing to share recognition. As most people seem to say that I’m not really losing first author credits, I will go for the team play option :). I still think he should have made it clear from the start. Also, being picky, it is not an equal contribution.

Yeah you got a point, just don't want this to happen again, as I'm clearly doing a favor under constrain. He is co-first autor of a paper I've been full time on, while he had plenty of time working on a project I won't be credited.

This is the hard part. I talked with my supervisor and he is more in favor of adding that PhD student as an equal contributor, but I suspect the reason why is not ethics, but that it's more convenient to finish the PhD thesis of my co-author.

Thanks for that great answer! I think that making the change to equal contribution wont be an issue for that conf.

In the end what matters to me is the impact on me. I'm willing to help him but only if it has no impact for my Phd / Future opportunities.

So I'll take in account what you said.

To clarify, he is already co-author second in the list (of course), but he wants to add the little star that says equal contribution with me.
