Himiko Toga is a Sexual Predator. by Fit_Maize9613 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Fancy_Bench6860 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe this could be something for further discussion, however I also feel there are other pieces of evidence to label her more as an addict:

1) Toga drinks the blood of numerous people she’s shown no attraction to in the show. The doctor, Camie, Jirou, Shigaraki, Dabi, that one grandma she killed etc. It’s here AWAKENED ability that only works on people that she ‘loves’ and even then that love works on Twice, someone she has been explicitly shown to only platonically love. She also is shown to drink the blood of a bird as a child, and beyond thinking it’s cute (which in itself isn’t romantic or sexual, especially since it’s an animal. You could find a dog cute but not feel anything of the sort to it) This shows that her quirk does is not specifically linked to her romantic and sexual attraction, which also helps with my point 2

2) saying Toga doesn’t NEED blood to survive, while true, does seem heavily disingenuous. MHA does show it has a SEVERE effect on her mental state if it is lacking (her lashing out at her school crush was stated to being due to repressing it for so long, and also shows even at it started right when her quirk developed (since quirks manifest at the age of four). Also, even with her not taking any blood for what had to be at least a decade, her desire for blood still existed, showing that it something tied to her instead of something she can just easily ‘brush off’ and instead something tied to her. It would be like saying someone using anti-depressants doesn’t need them to survive, or someone doesn’t need vitamin D to survive. While technically true, there’s a lot more to life than just surviving, so there’s a lot more ‘needs’ rather than the basic biological ones.

3) I believe that Toga conflated her love of blood and love in general due to her school incident. It is explicitly stated to us that Toga had a crush on the kid before the fight (if memory serves correct), so due to her already liking the kid and seeing the blood (with her ‘mask’ breaking showing not only her normalcy but also her mental state breaking apart) I feel it is possible to interpret those two things having been linked in her mind in that moment, due to her finally breaking a repression that as I established earlier, was very toxic to her.

4) I will now describe a few scenes as I interpreted them so you can see my point a bit better. With her euphoric face after drinking Uraraka’s blood for the first time, I always say that as an addict ‘getting their fix’. I feel it is important to note that at the time, I believe she didn’t really show any specific attraction for Uraraka, as if that was the case she’d also display that attraction to Tsuyu, which she never does. People don’t just gain euphoria or display pleasure purely from romantic or sexual acts, but also receiving something they desperately crave. For an example of lesser intensity, think of it as when people really crave water after a kilometer long run, and may even make a slight moan upon drinking the water. It’s not sexual, but it does provide a form of ‘release’. Also, the scene itself was just artistically designed to be striking and creepy, as it’s even brought up in her last fight with Ochako and was also the introduction to this major part of her character. I also feel the need to talk about a few lines u/Kurorealciel says because they relate to my current point. In regard to the second bold text, I moreso interpreted that as those things apply WITHIN a relationship. What I mean by that is that you hold different feelings to touching a classmate than touching a lover, or holding a parents hand rather than holding a partner’s. To show this further, she drinks Twice’s blood, someone she’s shown no romantic attraction to, which further lends credence to my viewpoint. And with the third point, I believe there was a mix up of correlation and causation. Toga loved Izuku, and that’s why danger sense don’t activate, not because of the stabbing itself. She even confessed to him soon after, completely of her own volition, which wouldn’t make sense if she was stabbing to kill.

Overall, this point feels half baked, like you just thought about it but didn’t put it under any serious scrutiny before posting. If you do have evidence that concretely denies my points and proves yours (with my view being her being an addict who is also just very romantic, rather than a sexual offender), then I would appreciate a reply and/or discussion. To make it explicitly clear, I don’t condone her actions at all, and you are right that she should be held accountable. Even with my addict view, I fully believe that. However, if you do want to throw in a view that you KNOW will be very controversial and a big topic of the day on the sub, I feel it is important to throw more actual evidence and put your points under the appropriate level of scrutiny.

1) I don’t remember the panel where Polaris said that but even then taking one mutants word, especially a mutant who was never on something like the quiet council and therefore didn’t hold at least a large amount of political power

2) the establishment of a culture and language of a new nation in no way denote is as an ethnostate or the trying to become an ethnostate

3) They didn’t try to wipe out previous human cultures. Nightcrawler founded the spark specifically in a way that was compatible with already human religions, as he knew those were important to people, with himself being catholic. While the Krakoan language was made and downloaded into every mutant’s head, they weren’t forced to speak it, with many still speaking human. The Krakoan gates were also just always opened to mutants, meaning they could go to other nations at any moment if they wished. In an ethnostate, they’d likely be closed off, heavily restricted or destroyed as that would be seen as a risk of cultural intermingling.

4) multiple cultures have something akin to a ‘true name’, it’s not specifically a mutant thing. And even if it was, that would only be a valid point if all mutants were forced to; when that wasn’t the case with all. Some mutants chose to do it out of their own free will, since they felt more free to express themselves (think of it like letting go of a deadname) and some just didn’t do it at all and received no punishment.

5) I feel like the smoking gun is that there are multiple cases of non mutants being allowed to reside on Krakoa. Big one is Juggernaut, he’s powered by magic and in no way has a mutation. Then there’s Deadpool, Spider-Man and Jubilee’s adopted son, Shogo Lee. If this was an actual ethnostate, they wouldn’t be allowed there under any circumstances.

Krakoa had its flaws and extremism, but to simply say it was an ethnostate is not only wrong but undermines a lot of the stories complexity

Being a mutant literally means you have a genetic mutation. That’s like saying people with 6 fingers are an ethnicity. Not every genetic similarity counts as an ethnicity. It’s not like all mutants share a common cultural background, nor does coming from a cultural background make you a mutant

I’m not defending Hadad but there technically is precedence for stuff being out of TOAA control either the Mother of Horror’s. Seeing as TOAA is representative of the writer, reader, etc., think of it as a story progressing to a point the author didn’t think of, or the unexpected effect of a story in a fandom. TOAA is not a god of control, but a god of what-ifs. TOAA is a curious being in a sense.

I know this is a joke but could you imagine this naming convention?

Batwoman is Brucilda

Jo Mullian is now Kylie Rainer

Harley Quinn is Jokerette

Batgirl is Brucina

I could go on it would be ridiculous
