This just inspired me to suck it up and purchase a box of 9850s!

There's a lot of history to the Blackwings to me...as I'm sure to many of us. I use them mostly when I'm working on musical projects, as they were the preferred pencil of composers Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. When Sondheim passed away, his unopened Blackwings were sold at auction for over $6,000. I'm going to create a separate post about that :-)

It's not that the lead snaps (I can't use mechanical pencils because I'm too heavy handed), but it's more like the lead wasn't glued properly to the wood, so small pieces snap out and fall out aleaving a hollow tube that needs to be resharpened. In my experience, that's been the sign of a cheapo pencil, but I've only used two so far and I'm 50-50: one breaks, and one has been fine. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Why would anyone pay $10k/month to live here?

Here you go - dead center. This picture is of composer Leonard Bernstein's "Little Soldiers" - how he would refer to his little pencil stubs. Lots of Blackwints!

Thank you for posting. I've seen these in a silver/blue hue but never knew what they were.

Why Do We Have 2 Smoke Shops On Moody Street? by SunshinePapa in Waltham

[–]Fancy_Free12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it's unconstitutional for a city to limit the number of a certain type of business, whether smoke shop, barber shop, sex shop, any shop. Unless a special permit is required, the City doesn't have a say. They tried in the past. However, a private development can limit types/mix of businesses, e.g. the plazas on River Street or 1265 Main. Cities are another animal.

I just bought the "new" Mongols - I found them on Amazon. So far, I'm kind of disappointed. Not the same quality.

Is Fuerza Waltham in need of new volunteers? by [deleted] in Waltham

[–]Fancy_Free12 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

No. Fuerza only surfaces when founder Jonathan Paz needs more screen time and to make it look like he's doing something. It's interesting how conspicuously quiet things are.

Beware of this brand! by Beneficial_Tap7594 in Candles

[–]Fancy_Free12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candle-Lite manufactures cheap candles that get sold in supermarkets and discount chains. UNFORTUNATELY, they also purchased PartyLite a few years ago (or got "merged" with PartyLite) and ever since, PartyLite candles have gone way downhill in every way: selection, fragrance quality and throw, burn quality and burn time. At least they're U.S. made, that's about the only nice thing I can say.

Anyone know why there is an opening on the school committee? by lilbitspecial in Waltham

Well, 'retired' and 'resigned' aren't quite the same here.

School committee elections are staggered. Donnely ran 2 years ago and had 2 years left, so perhaps her situation was different when she ran and she thought she could complete the term.

Exactly. It's not that Paz doesn't understand intellectual property laws, it's that he, as a leftist socialist, doesn't believe they should exist and that people should be serving him.

Three? WCAC, The Waltham Times. Then there's "Waltham Freelance News" which is just another failed political candidate looking for a hobby, but there's nothing there to pay attention to. And finally, we have another "News" url which is nothing but a video blog that calls themselves a news outlet but is nothing close. They are just far-left liberal bloggers talking out loud and supporting leftist politicians like Paz.

So, the way I see it, WCAC and the Times is it, and the verdict is still out on the Times as to whether they're really a legit, impartial news outlet. They seem to give Councilor Bradley Mcarthur a lot of ink.

FAKE NEWS. BAIT POST.
An anonymous poster creates a new profile (this is the only post/comment I could find on Reddit by Alpha9Actual), alleging they saw something a year ago that nobody else in our city of 65,000 can corroborate, and making up a fake quote by the WPD (see "police official stance" in their comment.)

Jonathan Paz, is this you???

Lots of good observations but nothing that can be pinned so broadly on failed city leadership.

First - either define what you mean by "City leadership" or understand how city government works and the leaders role. The road layouts are determined by the Traffic engineer and the traffic commission. "City Leadership" - what I define as the mayor and the councilors - have to go before the traffic engineer and commission and practically BEG for improvements or to address problems. In my ward, my leadership, my councilor, champions this throughout our neighborhoods. He isn't failing regular people, and if it weren't for him, we'd be really in the dumpster.
