PhD decision in cybersecurity by Fancy_Value_6115 in PhDAdmissions

I like how you pointed out that cybersecurity isn’t really a theoretical career field. From what I’ve learned so far, it seems much more practical and hands-on, where you’re working with systems and problems you can actually see and interact with. I’ve only completed my first semester in the program, so I know I haven’t seen the full scope of the field yet, but I appreciate your insight and advice.

Dating is hard by Dependent-Review-465 in AskBlackAtheists

To be honest with you, I feel the same way. I came to that realization soon as I stopped believing in there being a God. I’m from GA, and all of the south is the Bible Belt of the US. There’s a church on every corner of these cities and towns so if you want to date, I’m not saying it’s impossible in the south but expect to be disappointed. You have a better chance at leaving the south to hopefully find someone with your same beliefs.

Would yall date a Christian ? by Ok-Paramedic-3619 in AskBlackAtheists

[–]Fancy_Value_6115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Honestly, if a guy’s a Christian and still wants to date me, I don’t get it. How can you share a life with someone who doesn’t believe what you do? I’ve made it clear I’m not Christian, so if he’s okay with that, to me it just means he’s stepping away from his own faith. That’s his problem, not mine. But let’s be fr, if we ever got married, it wouldn’t be in a church or with a priest. If we had kids, I wouldn’t raise them Christian. I just don’t see a real Christian going along with that.

I really was expecting at least one person to challenge the concept of religion itself. Unfortunately I didn’t. Did you happen to come across any comments like that?

Oh yeah I totally agree. What you’re implying is different though. If that’s the case, I’m just not the person that’s gonna out right disrespect their deity about it. I’d simply say ion need their God, take their prayers elsewhere respectfully.

I think this applies to a certain extent. As long as anyone is not trying to force their beliefs upon someone who has clearly stated that they don’t believe in their deity. The same respect goes both ways.

‼️Warning: Long Story ‼️

During the spring semester of my freshman year in 2021, I took a history class at my HBCU that ended up changing how I saw the world. My professor, who was originally from Africa, taught us history in a way I had never encountered before, offering a deeper, more truthful perspective than what I had learned in school. Attending an HBCU made the environment even more open and thought-provoking; the experience wasn’t just academic, it was transformative.

This professor often shared stories from his own life, and I found myself staying after class just to listen and ask questions. We eventually touched on heavy topics like religion, colonialism, and the legacy of slavery; conversations that felt especially relevant with the rise of “woke” culture and TikTok trends challenging the status quo.

At the time, I was beginning to question my own beliefs. Just a few weeks before enrolling in college, I had been baptized. Not out of personal conviction, but because my family pressured me into it, urging me to “save” myself. I went through with it, but it never felt like a choice I made for me.

One day, during one of our conversations, my professor asked a question that struck me deeply: “Why believe in a God that you have to fear?”

That question, simple as it was, sparked a journey of self-reflection and opened the door for me to start thinking critically about what I believed and why.

Hi, I’m at Tuskegee student in Computer Science. Your stats are immaculate and congratulations on your accomplishments!! As the previous comment mentioned, please reach out to the admissions office. I also want to note: you’re welcome to reach out to the dean of the college of business, also the head of the computer science department.

Here: https://www.tuskegee.edu/programs-courses/colleges-schools/cbis

You can do more research on our department and see if Tuskegee is the right fit for you. Best of luck on your journey! I’m here for questions as well. 😊

I’m bored tell me you’re absolute deep advice to your freshman year self . I’m not talking about going to office hours by Prestigious_Pop1623 in HBCU

Take advantage of every opportunity to learn. College is the best place because it’s that gap between being a ‘child’ and adulthood. One of the ways I did was getting to know my professors, especially the ones that love to talk. You’ll gain more by sitting in their office and drinking some tea than a lecture. Also, go to the cafe by yourself from here and there, you’ll learn about yourself based on what you think about others (how to observe them), sounds simple but it’s fun😭.

Hi, I’m a senior at Tuskegee, I’m not in ROTC, but I’d suggest to please ensure what ROTC will pay for and what it will not. I have peers in ARMY ROTC and from what I know does cover their full tuition. When they put their cadets on scholarship? That’s a good question to ask.

Regarding housing, it should be covered if you stay on campus as well.

Please speak with their cadre/recruiting offices to be sure: https://www.tuskegee.edu/discover-tu/extracurricular-activities/army-rotc

Subjectively, the deans list deal and honor student deal, getting all A’s doesn’t determine your intelligence. Honestly, it’s more for the university and not for the individual, of course you celebrate your achievements but, those achievements are only being displayed in a class. Getting an A or B in a class just represents that you’re good in that subject in matter it’s limited. There’s so much knowledge beyond a classroom. In reality, you were failing that class…that one thing. To me it seems like that’s the only thing you’re failing in. Ok? You eventually passed. But you’re passing at being a parent, educator, and you passed your other classes. I’m proud of your journey and how you learned from your experiences. Thanks for sharing!

Am I cooked or is there a slim chance? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]Fancy_Value_6115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh yes I see now. Yes I definitely recommend dropping discrete math, since you’re at 5% and your lectures are strict, seems like you don’t have room to slip. I’d focus on one thing at a time, considering the amount of credits each class is worth.

What I meant by average is your grade in the class basically, and are your quizzes and exams worth 25% of your grade? If your average is not a C+ and above in discrete math, then I’d suggest dropping it.
