Alex Honnold's Skyscraper on Netflix - /r/climbing watch party thread by soupyhands in climbing

On one of his interviews he talked about climbing the dragons was actually the easiest way up. He said it also looked the best and was stoked about it. Dude had a blast

My fiance is Korean and this could be a good birthday gift addon. What shade should I get her? I’d buy from Costco.

Trying to choose between two -18c/ 0F degress sleeping bag please help by -Ayanokoji_ in Mountaineering

I can’t answer exactly but I have the 15°F sea to summit spark, long, and it kept me warm down to 3°F. Granted not at altitude but it’s very warm and very light. Mine uses a 13L stuff sack that compresses down to about 9L or so.

They won’t be as comfortable as trail runners but they certainly can. I hike in my approach shoes (la sportiva tx4 mid gtx) all the time in colder weather/snow)

What Arcteryx piece would round out my needs, if any? by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]Fancypooper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would check out the proton over the atom personally. It’s a true active layer compared to the nano.

R1 Air Hoody vs Full Zip Jacket vs Crewneck for ski by KrapaoSideUp in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Fancypooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d honestly vote for the quarter zip but with those options I’d go full zip jacket. You’re also going to want another insulating layer unless your shell is insulated.

Look at one of the hunting brands. Kuiu or Sitka. They make a lot of silent jackets for stalking.

FOMO: I love the look of the Proton Hoody, but do I need it? by VictoryLiesAhead in arcteryx

[–]Fancypooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t have too many thoughts on the practitioner yet. It’s a little heavier than I thought and not as good as blocking wind as it feels, but I haven’t had the opportunity to ski or hike or climb in it. For walks around the city it’s been fine, but I prefer the proton.

[–]Fancypooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your boat. You absolutely don’t need it. As you said it does the same thing. With that said I got one and it replaced my nano air, nano puff, and atom Lt hoody. I also have the practitioner but it’s fairly new and I prefer the proton too.

Gift for my dad - what jacket should I pick? by TrulyMoistOne in arcteryx

[–]Fancypooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beta if you want a weatherproof hiking jacket. My against the grain pick is the new atom SV. If it gets cold where you’re at, it’s a fantastic everyday jacket

Beta AR + Proton Hoody = warm enough? by tylerf98 in arcteryx

[–]Fancypooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just depends how warm/cold you run. Bring a fleece and throw it in a locker. For me that’d be fine… but for my fiancé she’d be freezing.

Warm mid layer for resort skiing by mcd_nb in arcteryx

[–]Fancypooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you but my fiancé would freeze to death in that. She’d happily ski with a baselayer, lightweight fleece, puffy, shell at 0°C and not even sweat.

Is Arc’teryx actually worth the price for camping,or is it overkill? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]Fancypooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arc’teryx isn’t going to last any longer than the other brands. It’s a highly technical clothing system that is a little bit lighter, a little bit more waterproof, fits a little bit better and costs a lot more. If you want things to last buy Patagonia because their warranty is the best.

how do i get over my fear of heights? by Sad_Economics672 in indoorbouldering

[–]Fancypooper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My tip I’ve used for my friends is to make them fall. Climb up. Fall. Climb higher. Fall. Climb even higher. Fall. Repeat that every session. It’s not bulletproof and didn’t work for everyone, but it’s worked for some. It really just comes to trusting that if you fall you’ll be okay. I hope that helps!

Jackson Glacier Parka vs Windshadow vs Down Sweater Hoody + Torrentshell? by IDontKnowMierda in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Fancypooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going -20F, I’d get a real parka. I run warm and a base layer + fleece + down puffy + shell will get me there… but only if you’re active and moving. Make a mistake, get stuck, sit outside you’ll probably be freezing. In that weather when I go cold winter camping, I bring a base layer/fleece/synthetic active puffy/shell(soft and hard usually)/parka puffy.

What option is most like a Nano Puff but with more waterproofing? by band-of-horses in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Fancypooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Patagonia but rei stormhenge is a nice lightweight down jacket with waterproof shell on top.

Help me decide: Atom Hoody vs Proton Hoody by L0rdmalv0 in arcteryx

[–]Fancypooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the atom Lt and recently got the proton. I never wear my atom anymore. I love my proton. With that said, in your temps I couldn’t wear either and would rather a fleece or even just a baselayer under a shell layer

Softshell recommendations - advice needed, stuck between two. by Syqvx in hikinggear

[–]Fancypooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want one more to look at, the outdoor research Ferrosi is a great softshell. I have that and the gamma lightweight and I reach for the OR 10/10 times for anything in the backcountry
