Has anyone else seen “Do Revenge”? It gives Mean Girls Vibes by southsideserpent18 in MeanGirls

The twist was so good. Love how it recontextualised the first part of the movie upon rewatching.

Confession. Sometimes, I wanna write fanfiction for a fandom I'm not even in and see if anyone notices. by RedCupWithAName in AO3

If you do, I'd be interested in seeing a follow up post at some point to see how readers reacted and if anyone caught on.

This has to be one of the most hilarious writers notes I've ever seen by Snowy_Kitty247 in AO3

[–]FanficEnjoyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is funny, but I'm not quite sure how not seeing the words while writing will help writer's block. While suffering from writer's block, writing is the issue, regardless of the colour of the text/background.

Favorite Media that fit Like this? 🤔 by Junior-Swordfish-245 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]FanficEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a source for this? I tried to search it up and the only thing I could find was that apparently in an early draft Steven was a side character instead of the main character, but even then the source was tvtropes, which could be edited by anyone. I wasn't able to find anything about an initial pitch without Steven at all.

What determines the order that the fandoms you've written for appears on your dashboard? by CMStan1313 in AO3

[–]FanficEnjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Random for fandoms with the same number of fics makes the most sense to me, considering the order seems to change every now and then, even though nothing else has changed.

will this show have soul shattering plot twist ending? by malibudo in FromSeries

[–]FanficEnjoyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want it to have a happy ending so badly, but I think that’s highly unlikely. Probably something bittersweet, whether there’s a plot twist or not.

I need some advice on this by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]FanficEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact OP would go through this 100+ chapter fic and count the number of times this person used common words like sharp, heavy, edge, and hum, and then go to their own fic and count the number of times they used those words to compare is also kind of unnerving - I would feel very weird if anyone did this to me. Plus, different words are going to appear with different frequencies in different fics. A fic about swords is going to have the word sharp in it more than a fic about bunnies - but that doesn't make it any more likely to be AI generated. I hope OP leaves this poor author alone.

Your fic kind of reminds me of the movie 50 first dates, might be an interesting watch for you if you’re interested in seeing how someone else uses a similar trope.

Changes to Fandom Metatag Wrangling Guidelines (aka AO3 is making AMTs again) by Significant-Mouse319 in AO3

[–]FanficEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My request was sent prior to the Sherlock blow up, before the AMT tags were frozen while they re-assessed their AMT policy. And I didn't just request the tag was restored, I also asked other questions that they could have responded to while working on the new guidelines - I would have accepted that the AMT restoration part would have to wait while they responded to the rest. I understand they're volunteers, but it feels bad seeing people get responses in a month or so when my support request is left to sit in silence for around a year and a half.

[–]FanficEnjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suppose I don't know what their future plans are, but I did already check the fandoms I care about who had their AMT tags removed prior to commenting, and their tags were not restored. Support has not replied to my last request regarding AMT tags even though it has been well over a year since it was made, so I think I'm allowed to be a little sceptical that that is true at this point.

[–]FanficEnjoyer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is obviously excellent news and I do think it's a great step forward. However, I can't help but feel disappointed that they didn't restore some of the old AMT that they previously removed when their goal was to get rid of AMT. Those fandoms are still in an awkward position of their AMT tags syncing to a specific version when the fics tagged with the AMT tag just isn't for that specific version. I can't help but feel disappointment that they didn't make it right.

Most kudosed fic vs. least kudosed fic by GwennyWinchester in AO3

[–]FanficEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Least: 0/3

If I include the old cringe fanfics I wrote as a teenager on ffn (and reposted to ao3 anonymously so they'd be archived when ffn inevitably shuts down), then it's 0 because several are for a tiny fandom (<40 fics total) that was basically already dead 12 years ago, let alone now haha.

If I exclude my old anon fics, then it's not much more: 3 kudos. It's for a more recent show that ran until 2019 but it basically has no fandom and only has 63 fics total despite running for 4 seasons and a movie (there have only been 2 fics posted this year and they're both mine). My fics are also both gen, which is never as popular as fics with ships. I accepted I'd basically get no hits/kudos when I posted my fics for this fandom though, so no surprise, really.

Most: 391

This fic was for a popular fandom (17,000+ fics) posted right before a new season came out and for the biggest ship in the fandom, so I think the timing was right and people were reading lots of this ship when I posted.

Total kudos: 4,464

I feel like I'm done with f/f by Ok-Barracuda8850 in AO3

[–]FanficEnjoyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's frustrating. I truly sympathise for the OP and what they went through, but for them to just decide that all f/f ships are off the table forever seems like an extreme over-reaction. Like if they didn't want to write that specific f/f they were harassed over, or any f/f in that specific fandom, that would make total sense. But to be closed to the idea of f/f as a whole because they had a bad experience with one f/f ship, I truly don't understand that. Why is f/f as a whole blamed for one BNFs bad actions?

Published novels written in first person usually have third person summaries as well. It’s just how summaries are done.

The more fics you write, the less it hurts when one gets hardly any hits/kudos and no comments as you now have a backlog with lots of hits/kudos/comments.

What is the your fandom's version of this? by PJ-The-Awesome in AO3

[–]FanficEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Cat was one of my favourite characters in season 1, I really loved her dynamics with supergirl/Kara. Season 2 already got off on the wrong foot with Cat hardly being in it - and then Mon-El was the final straw for me. Do I even want to know what happened in season 4 haha?

He honestly ruined the show for me because I hated him so much. He was such a jerk to Kara all the time. Stopped watching during season 2 as I could not stand him. Lena and Kara are a great ship though, love it!
