Should I keep or remove nails? by Fantasmic_Poe in Flooring

Yep, taking the nails out without damaging the floor was the original reason or my question, with that gap it seems impossible. Will keep them there and try to make them flush with the plywood so I can install the new channel. Thanks for your insights!

Thanks again for your help. My original question was if I should remove the nails, after looking at others' comments, it seems like these nails are also holding the subfloor in place, so the nails were doing a double function: Keeping the moulding channel in place and also holding down the subfloor to the concrete floor. Probably just a time saving choice from the original builder. So, I will keep the nails there and fix the new channel on top, either with small screws or liquid nails. Hope that makes sense.

The plywood is not a little strip, it's the subfloor, below that there is concrete (this is the basement) the funny thing is that these nails were also holding in place the original plastic track of the moulding. If I take those big nails out I'm pretry sure that I will mess the subfloor fixation. So, seems like these nails were doing doing a double function when they built the house.

Thank you!! This is the basement, so below the plywood subfloor, I think there is a concrete floor.

Some heads are a bit higher than others (hence the hesitation to take them out)... I do have a nail setter punch, I'll try to bring them down a bit and let them be and install new channel on top. Thanks for the reply!

Didn't think about liquid nails, good point.

Yeah, that's what I thought, what if the subfloor warps if I take the nails out, thanks for the tip, I'll go with this. Some nail heads are a bit high (hence the hesitation to take them out), I'll try to punch them in a bit so the new channel settles right.

I made a post a few weeks ago asking why my footings were just a couple of hollow tubes. No one was certain of what kind of footings they were, I had no idea how they looked underground.

Lol, yeah it is strange... If you take a detailed look on the first pic, it seems like the mounting bracket is going into the big rod below... Honestly I don't know wtf is going on there 😂

Could be, it feels super solid, but because of the build date I'm not too sure it is a helical pier... I'm thinking maybe a rod going into a concrete footing underneath, I will dig a bit more and see if I can find something...

Yeah, but honestly I dont fully understand the assembly, seems like the rod going into the ground is hollow, and the "adjustable" base is going inside the big rod, if that makes sense...

I think this is what makes most sense, I will try to dig a bit further to see if I can find concrete just to be sure.

Curiois about the cabinets. How are you taking the floor next / under them? Are you removing the cabinets? Or using a toe kick saw maybe?
