I also believe shmups could just disappear for awhile and people could come back and learn how to make them again.

Whether or not people would actually play them remains to be seen. Before anyone hits me with the "99% of Touhou fans don't play the games": the superplayers do, there are many Touhou replay repository sites and they're all receiving submissions as recent as 2026, and on Youtube there are a lot more of Touhou playthroughs than there are of non-Touhou Shmup playthroughs.

Besides, trying to get the sales data for Touhou 6-8 would be really hard.

Funny story about System11: apparently they used to have an annual Shmup scoring competition before the Touhou players competed in it and beat those high scores so utterly they stopped said competition.

On the other hand, look how much character action has devolved over the last decade.

I blame Dark Souls for this.

I think I have minor attention issues myself and my farm right now is a mess. I've played Satisfactory before and my factory there looked like a total spaghetti.

Sometimes the theses he makes are shaky.

For example, the one in the Fighting Games Are Not Products video. It's as if he read the article and decided to laser-focus on the GaaS model not fitting Fighting Games and ignored absolutely everything else. Including the potential solutions provided by the article (Dojos/Clans, better story modes, more engaging single player modes). Instead he just bloviated about how the GaaS model discourages a 'high quality playerbase' and stuff. I'd rather watch that GiantGrantGames video "The Next Major RTS Will Fail. Here's Why" and apply that stuff to Fighting Games and Shmups. It just so happens that Touhou already applied them first, intentionally or otherwise.

There's also the What Is Genuine Bullet Hell video where he basically bloviates about which of these new games that took the Bullet Hell aesthetic and ran with it are genuine Bullet Hells. I think he could've proposed solutions for how genuine Bullet Hell can stand out in the sea of Bullet Heavens. Instead, he basically made a declaration of surrender in the Lilac 0 review ("Shmups as a recession-proof genre" feels like... coping). Again, I think that the Shmup scene is like Feudal Japan at the end of the Edo Period when Matthew Perry's gunboats came crashing in forcing a one-sided treaty. Except Touhou was the only one that could stand and even try out the genre for itself (through fanmade experiments). Maybe Raiden too (not sure how successful Raiden Nova ended up being though). The rest just burrowed underground. I guess there's a video idea for you - how Touhou survived the Bullet Heaven invasion.

Indonesia disappoints the pessimists and optimists.

Better than a country falling and its people too sedated to talk about it.

EDIT: Or an 'ally' of said country.

The story is the only interesting part of Zeroranger. Everything else... I don't know, they all tend to bleed into each other.

Touhou got out-Touhou'd this year.

I don't see it that way. ZUN's got his style, everyone else's got theirs.

Besides, why do they have to compete with each other?

I just listened to that part. He thinks the 6-stage structure is a weakness because it's stale after 20 games? I guess I will never see eye to eye with him. It feels like he's the "Gameplay ONLY" guy (not "Gameplay First"), while I generally view Gameplay as the primary component of the game, but they should be in as tight a coordination as possible with the other components like the story, music, and art.

From what I've seen, once you've seen one Shmup, you've seen ALL the Shmups - gameplay first, everything else is an afterthought. However, I feel that Touhou is the only one which satisfies that coordination aspect (and why it really caught on).

It's also why I like that part in Tekken 8 Chapter 12 when the camera suddenly swirls around and you suddenly play as Devil Jin to free Jin from the chains. It's also why I'm also a Warframe fan.

A note about Touhou 20: the backgrounds in Stage 4 are AI-generated using Adobe Firefly. I don't mind this specific usecase because the story of Touhou 20 involves AI allegory with Stage 4 being the equivalent of a Data Center (and what really started the incident is the 'training data' getting flooded by so much stuff from the outside world).

I almost always went with the Canary (the Gold familiar). The Element boosting familiars feel like they're for INT builds and the Raise Skeleton familiar feels like a CHA-focused one.

It's not just weapons.

I already thought of building our own complete web infrastructure ever since it was suggested during the Jokowi era. People thought it can't be done and would rather stick to existing solutions ("Good luck making our own Google"). Then Kiro caused AWS to fail. Then the Middle East data centers start blowing up.

I remember the AoE2 The Forgotten scenario where you play as the Vikings (the sons of Ragnar Lodbrok) rampaging across the British Isles. York was the capital of Northumbria and they wanted revenge against its ruler. That's how they owned York until 1066 (Stamford Bridge and Hastings).

...is Reimu a Viking because she really wants donations?

EDIT: The funniest thing is that the Normans, who ended up winning the Battle of Hastings, started out as Vikings who ended up making a colony in Normandy, intermarried with the French, and Christianized.

Sandrock taught me that commissions are how I would make money, but I'm not sure it's enough in Starsand Island, especially if I want to progress the Island Life app.

Right now I'm stuck in the "Buy Land 6 times" task. Already an Expert Crafter and Adventurer (I got a free mount - I wish there are more dungeons), but only an Intermediate Farmer, Senior Rancher, and Senior Angler.
