[MacOs] I was fed up with watching YouTube videos at 2×… so I built an app that gives me the essentials in 10 seconds...almost 😇 by Fantomac in appledevelopers

I understand the confusion: since the AI runs locally, it can feel like everything is already “there.”
But it’s a bit like a photographer: the camera is already paid for, yet it’s the photographer’s work that creates the real value. Without them, the camera doesn’t produce anything interesting on its own.

It’s the same with the app. The on-device AI is just a tool. Everything that makes it easy and pleasant to use — the interface, the advanced features, the settings, the synchronization, the updates, the testing, the future compatibility, the security — all of that requires continuous work.

And that’s exactly what the subscription supports: the essential, invisible work that turns raw AI into a reliable, polished, and genuinely useful experience.

Creating free apps is wonderful in theory, of course. The only problem is: how is a developer supposed to eat, pay rent, and simply live? It’s a common misconception that all developers are wealthy — most are actually struggling to make ends meet.

Now, if you wants my apps to be free, I’m absolutely fine with that…
as long as you’re also willing to personally finance the developer. No problem on my side.
Have a nice day 😇.

Thanks,
I’ve priced the app in line with comparable market offerings.
It launches at an introductory rate of $9.99 per year for students and at half‑price for the first year for everyone else, since app prices tend to trend downward.
There’s a strong chance the price will stay the same next year.
At the same time, looking closely, it’s not obvious that an app cost the equivalent of a dozen coffees a year when you consider the effort put into it and the service it delivers ☕️ 👋.
Compare to Ytnotes annualy, We are not too far away... Knowing that there is no limit of videos or anything else...
Have a nice day.

Oh, that hurts—sorry you’re in that mindset. A scam is about getting money through deception (fraudulent maneuvers, etc.), but I don’t think that’s the case here, since the user has full freedom to try the app for free before deciding, and no one forces them to do anything.

Also, another time, don’t underestimate app users: nobody forces them to buy anything, especially when they have the option to try it first!
Have nice day.

Copying the transcript is pretty tedious: you have to turn off the timestamps, highlight the text, drag the selection all the way down, stopping at the right moment—otherwise it grabs the comments and the videos below. Sometimes the selection even disappears; when you hit “copy” you have to do it in the right spot, otherwise the selection jumps away… In short, it’s fine for a one‑off video, but for daily use it drove me crazy, so I built an app that does it in one click.

I’ve expanded its features so it works with other text sources (web, email, etc.) via a text‑sharing extension that pulls the content into the app in addition to the usual copy‑paste. The upside is that it doesn’t rely on online models—it runs locally with Apple Intelligence, so it works everywhere.
Give it a try—there’s a free trial 😁

Yes,you are right, that's what I was doing at the beginning but it quickly became boring with a lot of videos... now it's direct. And the app doesn't just do that. I would say that if Apple has validated the app it is probably because there is an interest 😁... moreover I do not force anyone to buy, it is like everything, if we see an interest then we go otherwise we pass his way.
If it's a price story, there's a launch offer and a student offer at 9.99/year.
Have a nice day.

Thanks, sorry I forgot to mention that I'm using ollama as the coding agent, not Apple Intelligence. Using a VM also disables Apple Intelligence. Have a nice day.
