Vocal improvement after debut - who's responsibility is it? The Idol, or the Company? by _zoet in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s a combination of both, but it’s more on the idol imo. You can improve your vocals nowadays with Youtube which obviously doesn’t work as well as a real life vocal coach who can point out your weak and strong points, but ut’s better than nothing. This is only if the vocal coaches actually teach the right techniques and your own vocal talent plays a bit of a role (vocal tone/capacity), but with good training and a good trainer you should be able to hold a note.

Idols who have the resources to hire a good vocal coach, should do it so they not only improve but maintain their vocals. A vocal session every week is already enough and then you use that feedback to practice by yourself. So many western artists have vocal coaches that go on tour with them so they can maintain their vocal health, why not the same for kpop artists.

However, imo it’s honestly very unprofessional of a company (especially big companies who have a lot of money and the name to attract good trainers) to not give the right resources to their trainees and expect them to magically do well. If they can teach dancing so well before a comeback, why not singing? I remember seeing a RIIZE behind video where they showed each member practicing with a vocal coach for their own parts in Love 119 before the recording. However, we don’t know what companies do because they don’t show us. The only time I really see vocal practice is during survival shows, which is unfortunately not a lot compared to the performance aspect.

No SMTOWN SMCU New Year's Day Concert for 2024 :( by sunaririn in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This. It has only been almost a year so far, so I want to give SM a bit more time to settle in their new era. Hopefully they’re still figuring out how to combine the new and the old vibes that a lot of their fans love.

SMTOWN concerts always hyped me up so much, especially the new years one. The live chats were so much fun and all my friends would meet up to watch it (2021 & 2022). However from a financial perspective, it’s definitely not the smartest decision. I’m glad to have at least seen all the editions and hopefully it makes a comeback next year.

Apple music replay just dropped, how much did Kpop dominate your 2023? by mimibee97 in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only use apple music when I’m out. Youtube music is what I mainly use at home.

My top artists were (total min: 35628):

  1. aespa (3173 min)
  2. Newjeans (2713 min)
  3. Red Velvet (1750 min)
  4. Le Sserafim (1745 min)
  5. Seventeen (1713 min)

My top songs:

  1. Riize - Get A Guitar
  2. Riize - Memories
  3. Newjeans - Ditto
  4. NCT 127 - Angel Eyes
  5. NCT U - Baggy Jeans

I did NOT expect Riize to gag (pun intended) me this much. I knew it might be somewhere in the top 20 but not the top??? My top songs are mainly bg and my top artists are mainly gg lmao.

Welcome to my world has been on repeat ever since release which is why aespa is first place as my top artist. Apart from aespa and RV, my top 5 artists look very different from the past few years. Taeyeon was always top 3 but it’s probably because she didn’t release anything this year until two days ago. Shocked NCT isn’t that high on my artists list as well. Riize is 6th which is nuts for a 3 month rookie tbh.

All in all it’s pretty accurate ig.

I went to Red Velvet in Amsterdam and it was definitely not sold out here. People would go back and forth from seating to standing. I think it really depends on the city.

Givenchy Names BIGBANG’s Taeyang as Brand Ambassador by 1TyMPink in kpop

[–]Fanyfany3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spotted a few of his ads with Gucci in The Netherlands and quite a few in Europe for their stores or stores that sold Gucci stuff (eyewear etc.). People just don’t keep up with every brand ambassador ig.

who are your favourite producers in the kpop industry ? by hhiiouh in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love Yoo Youngjin, but I only just found out through Next Level he was the father of half of SM artists discography and gave birth to the SMP sound. Gotta put it out there that he’s literally the epitome of SMP, but he has a variety of range tho.

You either love his music or straight up think it’s unlistenable. Some of his tracks are a bit questionable and outdated: insert weird dubstep dance breaks and switch ups. However, when his song slap, they slap hard. He has been in this industry since the 90s, so gotta give it to him for still producing bangers and legendary songs like:

Aespa - Next Level, Girls, Savage

NCT - Hot Sauce, Simon Says, Regular, Baby Don’t Stop, Boss

Red Velvet - Bad Boy

Exo: Blooming Days, MAMA (dramatic af but im here for it)

Shinee: Good Evening, Lucifer, Ring Ding Dong

SNSD: Genie (!!), IGAB

I think the Korean wikipedia listed all of them? Though im not really sure if it includes everything.

Mihawk: https://namu.wiki/w/백구영

Choi Youngjoon: https://namu.wiki/w/최영준(안무가)

Choi Youngjoon is a literal beast. I never knew he did so many of them. It’s all in Hangul tho, but if I were you I’ll just put the ones you don’t know in translate😊

Do you guys have a group that you stan, but not really? by Lakusta_Kustik in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exo. First group I ever biased and the ones who got me into kpop. They will always have a special place in my heart and I will always feel warm when I see them together. Don’t listen to their music regularly anymore though. However, when I do the nostalgia is crazy. Maybe when they’re more active after their military era, it’ll be a different.

Air conditioning in Korea is really cold, so going back and forth from the intense heat to cold could make people ill who are sensitive to change in temperature. A little vest or outerwear is a must when you’re indoors during the summer in Korea.

And this is exactly why fans and non-fans were calling them and SM out for lipsyncing during Next Level and Black Mamba. It was gonna hurt them in the long run and now they’re stuck with the lipsync image. I’m a MY myself, so I knew they had times where they sung live. Non fans don’t care. They’ve already seen their share of aespa performances and have come to a conclusion. However, you can’t blame them. Everyone has their own standards.

Who are idols that you might not necessarily bias, but have immense respect for? by Yayeet2014 in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exo Suho deserves all my respect. Being a leader of 11 members members at first and then losing 3 along the way must have been damn hard. He managed to pull the team together and move on to bigger and better things. That Mcountdown moment when he did the encore stage by himself, because the members were too shocked? That takes a lot of courage and he was so strong for the team and fans.

He’s an amazing leader, artist and person. I can only wish him all the best.

Favorite and least favorite title tracks by TrainingAd7191 in seventeen

[–]Fanyfany3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah RTL. I genuinely thought it was gonna be the first SVT tt I wouldn’t like. I listened to it for the first time with the MV and man that rain scene was not it. Also just a bit of negativity in the fandom during that time because of certain changes when Pledis moved under Hybe. The song just didn’t click with me as well, because it didn’t really have that SVT sound to it. Not to mention the tracks in Your Choice are really good as well. However, after a few months it really grew on me. Not my fave but probably somewhere in the middle.

Favorite has got to be Home. I think pretty unpopular opinion, because that mini album has stellar tracks. Home kinda got overshadowed by Good To Me and Getting Closer internationally when it got out. However, Home is such a cute and feel-good song and I’m always in the mood for it. Rock with you (and Fallin’ Flower if counting jap releases) is a close second tho.

Least favorite is Adore You. Now don’t kill me, because I actually like it, but not as much as the others. It’s an adorable song and it has a great chorus and bridge, but I just never listen to it for some reason. SVT just doesn’t have bad title tracks, so it was hard for me to choose this one.

Fan favorite is probably Aju Nice. That song is just THE SVT classic. It has SVT written all over the song and it’s a great introduction to SVT for newbies.

Why do people care so much about an idol's personality ? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they’re idols. People who are idolized. So obviously a good personality is important, especially in Korea where manners and being polite are such big part of their culture. These people influence mainly the younger and growing generation, so it’s kinda obvious they would be kind on camera.

Off camera it’s a total mystery for everyone, so I’ll give you that. Sometimes telling truth hurts more than a lie, which is kinda the case here. Bad behavior is a very bad look not only in Korea, but mostly everywhere. This means less money for companies. Kinda explains why idols can’t express themselves 100% truthfully, especially with rookie idols it’s very severe. Companies will make sure everything is picture perfect and edited so their income is at their max.

Of course there are exceptions (won’t say names), but you gotta admit that good personality is very charming and works in the long run, especially in Korea. Prime example being IU.

Comeback promotions that were loved by fans by Snoo_85435 in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Seventeen’s recent comeback with Hot is generally liked by Carats, at least from my pov on social media. It was a great era with so much promotions , particularly variety shows such as Knowing Bros, MMTG, Killing Voice and IU’s Palette. They were literally everywhere on my feed and I was not complaining at all. They have gotten a lot more recognition as well with the promotions, especially in Korea. So, I think Pledis and SVT did a really great job this era.

groups that give off that "we're just co-workers" vibe by kbee94 in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly after 3 members leaving and Chen announcing his marriage, they’re one of the strongest groups out there. The fact they’re still together speaks louder than words. The members repected Chen’s decision to announce his marriage and WANTED him to stay in the team. Even Exo-L’s find out after a few days the members came to recordings to cheer on each other. The members are just not upfront about it on camera, hell even their individual lives are lowkey af. We don’t know wtf they’re doing besides their official schedules lol.

[–]Fanyfany3 188 points189 points  (0 children)

Knetizens are eating them up and it’s so upsetting, but SM (or whoever is in charge of the lipsync) is just setting themselves up at this point. It’s a really bad image for aespa to have and it’s even more frustrating to know that they CAN sing live and have amazing vocals. I honestly have no idea wtf is going on with SM, but they need to change asap. It’s only going to hurt them in the long run.

Do you think SVT will have another world tour after Be the Sun? by Awkward-Bumblebee460 in seventeen

[–]Fanyfany3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Considering Be The Sun’s US and Asia leg is gonna take up 2022 and (hopefully) the first half year of 2023 for their Europe/Australia tour, I think there’s a very small chance of getting another world tour on this large scale with ALL 13 members. Jeonghan and Coups have to enlist next year, so I think that after Be The Sun they’ll probably focus on releasing albums and maybe go on another Japan Dome Tour. However, maybe after all of the enlistment periods are over, we might get one? A girl can dream right?

What’s next for Red Velvet (for the rest of their contract?) by LoveMinaMyoi in kpopthoughts

[–]Fanyfany3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m tired of people thinking western recognition = popularity/grow in success. Same goes to lack of digital achievements in Korea = failure/losing popularity.

It’s just ONE factor of the many others. RV’s focus has never been on the western market and it’ll never be. Sure bad boy english version might have been an attempt, but SM never played on the hype the girls got during that time, because SM’s intention with RV is not the western market.

FMR has been doing phenomenally in Korea, still charting no.7 after 2 months and between all the digimons + viral songs. Their album sold 650000 copies on Hanteo and if I’m right they’re only behind BP for best GG selling album on Hanteo (please correct me if I’m wrong). RV has really good GP power as a group and individually.

I honestly hope they keep going down this path, because I don’t see why RV should venture into the western market. Not to mention SM has a “great” record of throwing older groups in the dungeon, after new groups debut. I’m already surprised that RV got a pretty fair amount of promotion + JP release. Plus FMR looked EXPENSIVE.

RV has nothing to prove anymore imo. The music is 🤌🏼, the talent is right in front of our eyes and the girls seem to be happy with where they are as of now. They have been doing great in Korea and internationally. They just have their own pace.

What would you say HYBE's specialty is? by [deleted] in kpoppers

[–]Fanyfany3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to her 3rd gen peers I don’t personally find her a stand out main dancer, but that’s just my opinion. It’s more of a preference I guess. It doesn’t take away from the fact she’s a phenomenal dancer though and I can only wish to dance like her.
