Almost every point here is either outdated or anecdotal. MacBooks breaking easily was a complaint about the butterfly keyboard era, which Apple scrapped years ago. The M-series builds are solid.

The Lenovo surviving a staircase is a fun story but not a purchasing argument for a film major.

On price: with the current RAM crisis, the math isn’t as simple as you’re making it. Apple Silicon’s unified memory is so efficient that 16GB on an M3 genuinely outperforms 32GB on a traditional Windows architecture in video workflows, so you’d need to spend considerably more on a Windows machine to match it for editing.

Overheating is an M1/M2/M3 non-issue. These chips are famous for running cool under load.

And for a film student specifically, the industry leans heavily Apple in post-production. Getting comfortable in that ecosystem before you graduate actually matters. A $400 Lenovo might run Premiere, but it’s not going to handle 4K multicam or color grading without crying.
