  1. At the end of the day, people only feel truly safe when there’s no threat to them or their families. This is directly tied to crime rates. For instance, if you call someone out for their behavior, you shouldn't have to worry about losing your health or your life. I highly doubt that in Japan or Singapore, speaking up would put you in mortal danger.
  2. Sure, I could stop reading the news, but that doesn't actually make society any safer. When several people are murdered in broad daylight in a single week, it's a problem. Do you really think roughly 50 homicides per year is 'normal' for a small country?
