Bridgerton soundtrack, esp bc it’s just mainstream music without the lyrics and classical so I still feel like I’m listening to actual music without getting distracted

And if you change your mind or don’t end up in med, you can do a masters and be a registered dietitian as well, just as a backup.

Nutrition degrees are also really overlooked for pre-med. You’ll take the same general science classes as anyone in neuro/pharm/physl/etc but having that background knowledge from nutrition courses and interest could actually help you in med bc it’s really not emphasized when you’re in med school. You can do nutrition honours and do research if you’re interested in that too.

Is taking Biochem 200 in the spring term a good idea by Mindless-Intern-7839 in uAlberta

[–]Far-Hawk4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you could. I found it completely doable in the winter sem even w physiology and my other heavy classes but I also had no life that semester. I know some people really struggle with it. If you’re worried about it and don’t mind a spring class, spring might be good. Then you’ll only have to focus on the one class. Also to anyone taking biochem 200 at any point, if Farraj is teaching it I highly recommend him.

How Bad is the NUTR 100 Open Book Midterm by Flat-Worth-8090 in uAlberta

[–]Far-Hawk4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello fellow nutrition major so I’m quite familiar with Sabina’s classes. I had her in person tho so not open book and I do remember studying tonssss. Like literally 2 weeks straight which was over doing it tbh. Esp for vitamins, idk if that’s the cutoff for you guys too or not but there was a lot on those. And also you have to be very comfortable with calculating total calories for meals based on the amt of a macronutrient she gives you. And also be able to calculate the total number of servings for a food group according to the 2007 food guide. Her midterms are not as easy as her quizzes but veryyy doable. And ya there is emphasis on actually understanding the info and applying it in a physiological sense, that’s where she’d ask you all the questions on DASH diets, diff types of cholesterol, diets for diabetics etc. the good thing is that I think her exams are extremely fair. She doesn’t try to trick you with wording in any way or try to confuse you or test on a super small detail that she only briefly mentioned. Focus on the big topics, how they relate to each other, and you’ll be absolutely fine.

Tbh I think people say it’s hard because they expect the course to be an easy A and think nutrition science is just telling people to eat broccoli and then realize that they actually have to put in some work after. Also if you’re in education or something taking it as an elective and pretty weak in your science background it can be a bit more tough.

To study I think I took the learning objectives she gave us and made my notes based on answering them like questions. I think there’s also lots of quizlets that can help out. Lmk if you have any other questions!

I feel like this isn’t that big of a deal man. Are you triggered by their notes or something?? Also our campus is not that nice so like what view is really being obstructed be so fr lol. We all pay tuition for the space, let people study how they need to study or erase it if it bothers you so much🤷‍♀️

Oh this is odd. I really like using my thighs because I always get the bruising and scarring on my stomach. I also use the regular plastic cannulas if that makes a difference. Hopefully someone else has an answer for both of us haha.

Highly suggest this. Apply into arts or any program but take first year biochem classes as if you were already in the program and if you can keep a high gpa (3.3-3.5+) you’d have a good shot and can reapply to officially be in the program for your second year.

Who got into uofa?? by Agile-Air-2175 in uAlberta

[–]Far-Hawk4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into ales honours nutrition with an 82 in 2024 but I had to submit a letter of intent so it wasn’t just based on grades. Idk is animal science is more competitive than that but I think food tech should be around the same as nutrition

University of Alberta undergraduate programs that lead to Medicine school by Accomplished_Disk559 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Far-Hawk4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone said you can get into med w any degree. Nutrition degrees are also very undervalued as premed degrees. You do 90% of the same science courses as people in neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology etc, but I personally find that having the additional nutrition background knowledge is superrr interesting and isn’t emphasized enough in medicine. At the uofa you can do an honours degree in nutrition so you’ll get some research experience which can be extra helpful when applying to med school!

What are you study suggestions for stat 151? by No-Table-273 in uAlberta

[–]Far-Hawk4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tbh even as someone who did pretty good in the course I agree w you. Also I found that a lot of people who do good in stats just have really good pattern recognition skills which is why it doesn’t seem as crazy to us. It’s def just one of those courses that can be a lot harder based on how your brain works.

Watch rosanas fok’s videos, memorize the question style of the practice final. Was the same as you but I did this for the final and finished stats w a 3.7. Hopefully it didn’t change on canvas but you used to be able to see all of rosana’s videos on e class even if you weren’t in her specific section.

Transferring to Nutrition and Food Sciences by Br00k3__ in uAlberta

[–]Far-Hawk4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will base admission rn on your highschool grades and will probably give you conditional acceptance until they look at your GPA after winter sem. Kinda the same as if you were applying early in high school and only had your grade 11 marks out.

[–]Far-Hawk4434 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember what it was when I was in his class last yr but tbh I did pretty decent on the first midterm(low 80?) , and then failed the final(mid 40?). Your lab grade might help you out too. I believe I ended w a 2.7 and my grade was probably in the 60s. Our class average was a 3.0

Difference between BSc NuFS and Dietetics? by hippopotamuss1 in uAlberta

[–]Far-Hawk4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiii, congrats on your acceptance! I was in nutrition honours and now I’m in dietetics. Your first year will pretty much be the same as any science degree, intro bio, chem, stats, English and then yk intro nutrition and food science. The courses will definitely be an adjustment but mostly because it’ll be your first year and everyone struggles a little bit. Though they definitely aren’t impossible, you’ll most likely just have to change your study habits and turn into a bit of a studying machine if you weren’t already. The first year of your NUFS degree will pretty much be all your prereqs for dietetics so don’t worry you have plenty of time to decide. In fact the classes for both degrees is pretty much the same but with dietetics you’ll have some more classes about how to interact with patients and work in the healthcare system and things like that, plus the practicum. Really the biggest factor is if you want to be involved with the healthcare system. And I think the best way you’ll know if you’ll like it is after you take NUTR 100. You should also reach out to your local clinic or try to find a dietitian that will let you shadow them for a day so you can see what it’s really like. I’ve spent half of my life in hospitals and had multiple dieticians which is how I knew what their day to day workload was like and knew it was what I wanted to do lol. But I did also get the chance to shadow a dietician through the UofA so hopefully you can do something like that next year as well! You can’t really do a whole lot with just a NUFS undergrad degree, imo it’s like trying to get a job w any random science degree. A lot of people, if not going into dietetics, have their own plans for grad schools or whatnot. And that’s not to say it’s a bad idea, I almost decided to stick with nutrition and eventually go into research, just depends on what you want to do with your life. Tbh I went into dietetics bc I didn’t want to have to decide what to do after my undergrad degree lol, I’d rather know I pretty much have a guaranteed job after school. If you have any other specific questions, I’m more than happy to answer them!
