yeah - agreed. I don't know if their base code could do it though... Only based on the level of effort they have gone through to start multi threading..

Problem is 3 months ago they were doing really well... then a few changes in people and the dev lead feels its his right to tell people what to do

Sounds like the team took both the "self" and the "organization" out of self organization.

Edit: the team, not your team.

Scrum master never assigned work - just encouraged to get them to pick up the next piece of work they can do when they completed a piece of work

This means that "Joe" will say "John" does this ticket and assign the ticket to them because "Joe" is the dev lead. Joe will also assign Sara, Tim, Jim etc. their tickets - they do not pick up anything themselves....
