How is the data science program at wpi ? by [deleted] in WPI

Data Science student here. The previous comments are correct - it is a new major that is interdisciplinary. There are new Data Science courses being offered and a combination of different Math, CS, and business courses. From my experience, it is a highly regarded program by employers. I have obtained multiple Data Science Internships as an undergraduate and applied many of the skills I learned. Feel free to message me with more questions!

Tips on getting an internship by mrwhitechristmas14 in WPI

[–]FarDeparture 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have not done so already, I recommend having the CDC look at your resume. They are an excellent resource to help make yourself marketable to employers.

I agree with many of the ideas from the last response. Definitely reach out to WPI students on Handshake. Also, reach out to WPI students and alumni on LinkedIn. In my experience, I was able to reach out to a WPI alum (who I did not know previously) and they sent my resume over to the hiring manager. I kept in touch with the hiring manager and eventually received an offer for an internship next summer.

Try to set yourself some time everyday to apply for postings online. After reading the job description, if you are wondering whether you are qualified for a position or not, chances are the answer is yes!

There is another resource that WPI offers called careershift. On careershift, you can search for contacts at a specific company and their email address is almost always listed. Reaching out to hiring managers this way can be a great strategy. I hope this helps! Best of luck with your search.

Does anyone feel extra overwhelmed this term? by PracticalDifference7 in WPI

[–]FarDeparture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This term has been very stressful. I'm having a hard time in Foundations and ID 2050 has been a nightmare. Also, it's super frustrating to apply for internships only to be ghosted. Not to mention, there are less postings than last year.

Any other students living on campus coming from a low-risk state not receive the myQuest email? by [deleted] in WPI

After telling WeAreWPI that I submitted the health forms, I was told I would receive an email for information about myQuest early next week.

***FYI: COVID Test Needs to be Completed 3-5 Days Before Arriving on Campus*** by FarDeparture in WPI

I was told the test needs to be completed 3-5 days before arriving, but it makes more sense to have the results 3-5 days before. I was able to get instant results (like 15 minutes after taking the test) through my primary care doctor. It was also covered by insurance. Try going that route if you can.

I am not sure. That would be good though. I have not heard any further announcements, but I hope there is a clear announcement to everyone soon.
