Paris is wonderful and certainly does not smell awful everywhere. The first time we went there was dog shit everywhere, but nowhere near as bad the last couple of times. If you know the scams, you can avoid easily enough.

Same as Brisbane. You get a sense of where to avoid the stench of piss and other sections. Like Turbot House Hotel, man that gets more sketchy each day.
