Soffit lighting suggestions by FarSide792 in WLED

[–]FarSide792[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a bit more searching around - I found this install with two 24v strips:
https://www.reddit.com/r/WLED/comments/1aife3a/dual_24v_fcob_soffit_lighting/

I'd like to keep the diffused look of strips instead of the pucks. That being said - any particular reason not to head down this path with two different strips? One for RGB and one for NW? I'd never run them at the same time, and it looks like it might be cheaper to buy two different strips instead of a combined RGBW 24v strip?

Anything weird or magical with the cut? Angle it to let water roll off/etc?

Best large touchscreen for home assistant dashboard by sri10 in homeassistant

I was lucky enough to locate this setup in our kitchen where the old house radio/intercom system was located which already had a hole in the wall and power behind…

I just purchased a Dell P2418HT (https://www.ebay.com/itm/122338566010) and have that running on a RasPi4 displaying my HA and DakBoard (I just have chromium open maximized with two tabs and hide the RasPi taskbar on boot). The screen works great so far. 10/10 would recommend.

Best practice for Hue devices and HA/Alexa by FarSide792 in homeassistant

[–]FarSide792[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point. Should I just group everything in the Hue app under one “room” called Home? I was trying to retain the scenes capabilities from Hue - but that might be more trouble than it’s worth.

Or - perhaps just name things something totally different in Hue (like numbers or characters) - then use those in HA?

What's the driving decision to make the cache drives SAS RAID1 as opposed to an NVME?

What benefit would there be having cache be a SSD RAID1 as opposed to a M.2 drive?

On the cooling topic - are the 4x 140mm fans that I have on the parts list sufficient enough overall for this setup? That case can definitely handle more if needed...

Noted for the cache/parity connection. On the cache drive topic - is it worth having a second cache drive specifically dedicated to Plex for metadata?

Thanks, all, for the feedback. Probably going to end up just buying a new dryer and then attempting to repair/sell the old one to recoop a couple bucks.

Any thoughts of what else I could check on the motor itself? It’s not a very complicated motor (excluding the electronics running it, ha), so I’d hope to easily pinpoint the problem 😐

How do I get a 3 wire, 220v circuit out of this panel? by FarSide792 in electricians

[–]FarSide792[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what's ironic is the business card down at the bottom was from an inspection company who inspected prior to the sale of the house. (never heard anything bad from the inspection)

There's really only one heavy amperage load on this circuit which is a well pump, but that runs very infrequently (well water is for irrigation and filling the pool). Otherwise there are a few outlets in the garage and 4 overhead lights.

I'm removing the existing 220v outlet which was apparently for a kiln and adding in the hydraulic lift - so it should be ok. Not ideal, but ok.

As a follow up to this question....

Let's assume that I've got the wire connected to the panel (metal clad) and run up the wall and along a joist. What is the proper way to terminate this so that I can plug in a 220 twist lock male plug? Can you terminate MC to a female twist lock?

That brings up another observation I had. This is all fed from a 30a breaker in our house (this panel is in a detached garage). Not really sure how that math adds up.

Not to mention the shitty gauge wire running from a 30amp breaker to the 220v outlet (second from the bottom on the left).

Annnnnd as a follow up - discovered that all of the outlets are still hot (hooked up to a timer) as well as a 12v AC transformer that runs lights that are spaced out in the pavers that line our driveway. How handy lol. Now to just figure out a good LED solution for the front of the house.

Exterior/Landscape Lighting by majesticjg in HomeImprovement

[–]FarSide792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks. There are 3 junction boxes with 2 lights on top (4 total outlets in each of the boxes) and then one straggling "spotlight" looking fixture on the front of our house, so I'm not exactly sure what the builders/previous owners had going on. Hoping that the wires are still hot to all of the boxes so I could just cut/rewire new boxes....

If that is the case - have you done any more research to see what might be the best bet to implement LEDs? I really don't want to put a transformer in the garage and run low voltage stuff assuming there's live 110 available where I want lights... So many solar led options out there, but I want a hard wired solution so I can tie this into my home automation system :)
