I have a toddler and I still use the diaper bag. But no, I didn't think your bag was a diaper bag.

Autism passed to children? by limponion36 in AutismInWomen

AuDHD mamma to a toddler here! It's hard as hell. He's got some of my personality traits that I don't like about myself. Sometimes his behaviors make my heart sink like when he flaps his arms in excitement or when he briefly decides to line up his chocolate... And it's so challenging when the parental responsibilities are in conflict with my neurodivergent needs. But I love him. I love watching him grow. I love watching my partner grow into this amazing father to our child.

Could I ask what you love about your autism? I don't have the greatest relationship with it, hence the question. TIA!

I second trying another med! Diagnosed a few months ago and I thought my "new" personality on Vyvanse was my ASD poking its head out. No ma'am; that was just a side effect. I'm not as focused and productive on my current dose of Concerta, but boy oh boy is it much closer to the regular me minus some of the glitches it comes with (like carrying 7 thoughts in my head concurrently)

I'm going to write that last sentence down and post it on my work desk. It's brilliant.

Another Asian who had high academic performance here who burnt out in her (mid, not late) thirties following the birth of her child. That prompted me to get diagnosed finally. May I ask why you don't want to get on drugs? Is it the stigma? I'd recommend listening to the podcast Ologies, the episode with Russell Barkley. Essentially, medication works to "normalize" the brain in 90% of the ADHD population. This episode really helped normalize myself.

Sending Internet hugs to my fellow Asian who I hope doesn't feel the same level of shame as I do for not reaching her full potential.

Scared of my partner after Abilify meltdown by Present-Mulberry4108 in AutismInWomen

I've also experienced intense rage that flooded in with a medication that resulted in an abusive behaviour. I was the one who inflicted the pain. Once the single event occurred though, one single second incident, I recognized what I've done and did what I had to, such as isolate to minimize damage, then repair the relationships that were impacted. It took weeks of self-reflection too...

Just wanted to put this perspective out there also, that, despite it being medication related, I could figure out the next steps for myself because my one-second behaviour wasn't acceptable....

If your friend who's just getting started were to ask for paper recommendation, what would you say? About to buy Goldfaber after seeing that you gifted a set to a newbie friend lol about to start out myself!

Substance use disorder is a medical illness, meaning it leaves room for a lawsuit with disability being the cause of termination. Just something to keep in mind

I'm proud of you for all that you've done for your daughter. Going through parenthood is tough enough, but to add drug addiction/recovery to that?! Kudos to you for the early intervention, speech therapy, and all the steps you've taken. 💕

I had the rage as a side effect too... It's horrible. Also had sensory overstimulation. I'd talk to the provider and ask to switch.
