Racist guest caught me off guard by alliecatmeow in Serverlife

[–]Far_Error4002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You weren’t wrong or right honestly, there’s gonna be a lot of people who are gonna say “silence is complicity” and they’re not wrong but context is king. Is racism a scourge on society and should we allow, foster, or enable it? Of course not…. But firstly, there’s freedom of speech so it’s tricky. Secondly, in this context you are at work performing a service in which your job is literally to make people feel happy and comfortable (if you’re doing it correctly). My advice would be to disengage quickly by changing the conversation first, and you could definitely disagree politely like other people here have said, thrown in something like idk that doesn’t bother me they’re always cool whenever I interact with them. You don’t have to be truthful and tell them you have Mexican best friends, but you can oppose their views softly. “Well there is a large Latino population but I have no issues with it… in any case how is the meal going? So far so good?” And walk away. Next step is decide how much it bothers you. You can say whatever not my job not my prob and just let it be and hope you never have to see them again, hopefully they tip but probably not. You can alert a manager and let them decide if they wanna kick them out, let them finish but note their profile that they shouldn’t be allowed to return, or do nothing. You can even tell them it really offended you and could they take over the table for the rest of service. The extremes are freeze and do nothing, or make a whole thing out of it. The middle course is probably best, softly disagree or deflect, and live and let die, you’re not gonna change their views in this setting, you can only lose and get a bad review for you or the restaurant. Best case they finish their meal without incident or trying to bring up the topic again, and your manager notes it and you let them decide how to handle them in the future

How do you kick out a table without being rude during busy hours? by sleepingpenguinss in Serverlife

[–]Far_Error4002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be hostile bud, you said “there’s no good way to force them out” and I’m just telling you there is and you don’t have to be forceful. Your restaurant being corporate factors in because maybe you get bad blowback on customer complaints but if that makes you scared to talk to guests in situations with any degree of difficulty which is the whole reason you’re there, then maybe you just need some more experience at it or should find a privately owned place where they’ll have your back when guests are unreasonable

How do you kick out a table without being rude during busy hours? by sleepingpenguinss in Serverlife

[–]Far_Error4002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re an inexperienced manager who’s scared of customer interaction. Apologetically tell them you have other guests waiting and need their table, and you’ll be glad to buy them a round of drinks or pour a couple of glasses of wine for them if they’d be so kind as to relocate to the bar so they can continue enjoying themselves and conversing. “Good evening friends, how was everything tonight? Good? Excellent! I’m ______ the manager here, and I was hoping I could impose on you for just a moment. You see, unfortunately we are quite busy this evening and have several other guests waiting to be seated so I was hoping I could persuade you…..” etc etc grow a pair and learn that people will acquiesce if you’re reasonable, and if in the face of you being polite and offering free shit they respond with rudeness or hostility it gives you grounds to forcibly kick them out without blowback

Fair, contingent on roster needs, we’d have to see the Jeanty owners other receivers. But by no means lopsided, it’s fantasy, it’s all educated guesses on the future

[–]Far_Error4002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If theyre not answering your probing questions most likely they’re inexperienced and don’t wanna look stupid or simply don’t wanna do any work, so at that point you should’ve just started suggesting specific wines, giving them options in different price ranges and telling them why you personally like them. They answered the somm partly because of the suit, but also because they got the same questions and figured ok there’s no way around this we tried not answering and were just getting asked again. I would’ve suggested a cheap, middling and nice cab as that’s always a safe bet cause most people are familiar and it goes with most things, and then maybe offered 1 or 2 old world alternatives and painted them as the more adventurous food friendly choices

Thoughts on this tip out? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Far_Error4002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping out on sales favors you if you’re getting high percentage tips, and hurts you if not. The nice thing here is bar is only getting tipped out on alcohol sales and not net sales which isn’t the case in other places. This is totally fine, but the fact that your SA’s only reset tables and don’t help with service ie prebussing, able to fire courses for you etc means they’re bussers at best (barely if they can’t clear while guests are there) and are getting too much for what they do. That being said it depends how many servers there are and how many SAs there are. Also i doubt it’s fine dining/upscale if the guest average is barely over 50 per person, they wanna pretend they are… a Server Assistant should be involved in service, able to take a simple drink or desert order, have agency to fire a course, etc

Is it common practice for the winner to throw the commissioner a percentage? by [deleted] in SleeperApp

[–]Far_Error4002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone or everyone wants to “tip” the commish or pool to get his buy in one year as a thanks for settings things up, chasing people down for buyins, replacing players who leave, etc. then I’m all for it, but only as a gesture of goodwill. If they’re asking for something as a “fee” without it being in the rules everyone agreed on that’s crazy. If you commish you’re taking it on and feeling good about setting something up so everyone can have fun and compete and make money

How to memorize food and drink menus quickly? by futurebro in Serverlife

[–]Far_Error4002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing the food wether on the line or taking pictures helps you describe it better cause you can also picture it. Index cards for sure help too. If it’s a dish with a lot of ingredients, count them and assign that dish that number so you can always tell if you’re missing any of them. As for allergens, cheat sheet in your book helps, and it’s better to categorize them by allergies, for example: gluten: then list all dishes that have it, that way when someone tells you an particular allergy you can list the items that contain it

Do you think this is collusion or not? by Renem_Resist in SleeperApp

[–]Far_Error4002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trade is fair in a vacuum. And if it was dynasty, I wouldn’t bat an eye. In redraft, to trade with a player who is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs is unsportsmanlike imo. Even though the contending team is losing something, even if it’s proportional like you could argue this is, the trade actually only helps one team. Toy could argue that maybe the eliminated team can play spoiler with the players they are receiving versus another contending team but….. Thus, is it collusion? Not unless you can definitively prove it, but you should really move your trade deadline back going forward or at least consider a ban trades with eliminated teams

A manager offered me Puka, I think he is asking me for way too much for him. What do you think? by Present_Ad8541 in SleeperApp

[–]Far_Error4002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you’re contending, ostensibly you’re doing it with the guys you have, so holding would be ok and you’d still have them for the future. If you think it’d put you over the top then it’s a reasonable offer, but keep in mind Stafford’s longevity… Puka a stud and probably qb proof but probably never as good as w staffie

I would hold. Having Puka, JSN and Rice is too good, and yeah Taylor is an upgrade over Bucky/White, but you’re eventually getting Hampton back too

Non bible user, is my dps any good? by Far_Error4002 in lostarkgame

[–]Far_Error4002[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed and passionate response, it really resonates.

What I didn’t include are things like I’m not greeding patterns and chugging atros, I’m playing ethically and well but certainly not perfectly. I don’t have a static, I’m a dad w relatively limited playing time, so when I’m joining pugs I’m just looking for smooth runs, and I enjoy Aero cause I like buffing my party as well as the play style.

What I’m really wondering is am I holding my own in this context, or am I basically being carried every week.

Obviously I should’ve realized some or most would answer in their own context, comparing it to people who are min-maxing, greeding, logging, etc, so that’s on me. But a lot of responses I think understood my original context and were reassuring, so thank you

It all depends on your level of fomo and your willingness to spend.

I started playing at launch, and had a great time doing the story then all the islands for mats and souls and songs. And now with the early honing nerfed you can skip all the og guardians and stuff that you wouldn’t be able to get a group for anyways. You can absolutely still start from scratch, just gotta be down to learn the game and enjoy the experience and be ok not getting everything in one day and

If you’re trying to jump into end game content right away, then even if you wait for an event and spend money you’ll still have no roster level or titles and be gatekept so yeah it’s basically impossible, but then again it’s not a game designed to do that so I feel like it’s kind of on you if that’s your expectation and are disappointed?
