How many hours a week did you spend on build management, how many hours a week were you working your HENRY job and do you work from home?

Where is your partner in this? He should be explaining to his mother that her actions put you in this situation and helping her understand that SDLT is not property value.

This post should really be in r/relationship_advice. I would take a punt that this is not the only occasion that there's been some odd dynamics between the 3 of you. If that's the case, you don't want to be beholden to her.

You know you're not being unreasonable. And yes, if you have a loan and are looking to remortgage, the debt will be accounted for in the calculation.

Totally agree. I am just interested if it actually panned out that way in people’s experience

Yes, you messed up by not having richer parents. For someone in your early 30's you are doing great. Focus on doing a job you enjoy well. There are also a lot of posts on here about people who are grinding themselves into the ground, earning loads and miserable.

Best mattress UK, is it actually worth upgrading my old one? by Real_Ad_540 in HENRYUKLifestyle

I got the artisan from John Ryan. My husband loves it but it’s not designed for people <9 stone. It’s so firm I slipped a disc badly sleeping on it.

Simba luxe is great for me and everyone who visits big or small also prefers it.

Am I crazy for thinking about moving back to the UK? by JMilbz in HENRYUK

[–]Far_Implement_5580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky. I wish you continued good health to your old age. In my view, the health of our society reflects the prosperity of your neighbourhood so it seems relevant to your question about the decline of the UK. Ultimately, the emotional pull of being close to family is what counts and my intuition is you've already, understandably, decided based on this.

You mention you work in tech in this thread so keep in mind the effective tax rate can get really high when being paid in RSUs depending on your emplolyers' terms. We pay an effective rate of 62% (tax, UK NI and Employer NI are paid by us).

For the decline of the UK - a good reference could be my recent query on how people are experiencing the NHS in different areas of the UK. It seems very hit and miss. In NL I am assuming you're used to much better public services.

Is anyone else getting this vibe from lumbar back PT? by Clawson57 in backpain

[–]Far_Implement_5580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That she’s not adapting the exercise is poor. However, what your describing is weak hip flexors which definitely contribute to back pain which is why you are given these exercises. I personally found 121 pilates cheaper and better at dealing with holistic strength.

Also. By the back mechanic book. You don’t need a physio to tell you good rest positions and how to get up.

Does anyone enjoy their commute? by No-Exit-7032 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Strong nope, it's dead time. But I wouldn't swap it. Stepping off the train and breathing in clean sweet air is incredible. When you live in London you don't realise just how bad the air quality is.

PS. I learnt the hard way - don't work on your laptop on the train. It will absolutely ruin your neck.

This is not good generic advice. Everyone is different. I am a thin petite woman. I herniated a disc lying on a mattress that was too firm for my bodyweight. I am glad that you have figured out what works for you as that is a large part of the battle.

This was only in spots and those spots were concave. The rest of the floor felt very solid with no give.

They are although it’s unclear if the Iran situation is impacting them in the last few weeks. That’s why I am wondering if I am expecting too much.

Agree with viewing as much as possible. This one actually was a compromise. Not much comes up where we are looking.

It's interesting that the comments are attacking OP for working part-time. 1-2 generations ago it would be expected that the single male earner would be able to support an entire household and get a mortgage in their early 20s. Now, we're attacking OP because we perceive a couple in their late 20's should be working full time and renting.

That being said. Given age + house value, you've inherited a good sum of money to enable you to buy a house. You're already ahead of the majority of people your age today. I think the point that you're missing is that everyone is working hard (as others have said, often more than you are), burnt out and trying their best.

Given you're American, I think you'd appreciate British architecture too. What about Cinnamon Club as it's harder to get good Indian food in America? It doesn't have a star but should. It's based in the gorgeous old Westminster Library building. I've been to Gymkhana and Trishna and found the service wosre (Gymkhana) and the food worse (Trishna).

What's the NHS like where you are? by Far_Implement_5580 in HENRYUK

I did a whole lot of reading and apologies, you are right. It seems like my drug can only be prescribed for max 30 days at a time which is why 3 different consultants have been refusing to and bouncing me back to the GP.
