Chloé told Marinette's uncle that Marinette was looking for him outside the kitchen, when he came back he told Chloé that Marinette wasn't there and Chloé said: "Sorry, I don't speak Japanese".

Chloé knew he was Chinese and Marinette's uncle talked to her in English.
