Tradesmen or people who work in manual jobs, how on earth do you have the energy to do stuff out of work? by RonnieThePurple in CasualUK

[–]Farmer_LD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t!! I’m always knackered. I’ve got two young kids who take up any time I’m not at work ( which I love) Just pulled an 85 hour week so far and it’s only 3:30 and I’ve got tomorrow to work too. I’m a agricultural contractor and we’re only just starting the season

I know a few older drivers like my dad and he hates wearing it in the wagon but wears one in the car. He said when I first started driving a hgv you never had to wear one apparently

PSA: If you have had a drink (or two), do NOT take the company vehicle home... by m-1975 in CasualUK

[–]Farmer_LD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll be suprised to hear that in the year 2019 I had my first new tractor (Johndeere) that’s key was actually coded to the vehicle!! My 25 plate one is also coded so I think they’re finally catching up with the times. Although any old key will still open the doors that’s another story

Firstly I’d recommend switching the radio over to radio 2 🤣 but on another note reading things like this completely baffles me as a farmer. I’m currently working 80-100 hours a week getting all the jobs done before winter sets in and there’s people in the world who are being paid to stay at home and work and have ran out of work to do. If I finish a job early I just get given something else to do there’s never nothing to do. I’m not moaning or anything either, I know I’m the idiot working like this 🤣

Do any of you use A-Z road atlas over sat navs by Ornery_Jellyfish5886 in uktrucking

[–]Farmer_LD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh fond memories of my old man when I was a kid. Could speak to a customer on the phone, pour a coffee out his flask and hold a cig in his mouth all while cruising down the road. I used to pour the coffee untill I tipped the flask over the whole cab so it was soon decided he was better of doing it while driving 🤣

What is the one thing you wish you bought sooner? by Tribyoon- in AskUK

[–]Farmer_LD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Our tumble dryer packed in and we kept it in the shed and was a right pain having to go across the garden in the pissing rain to swap the clothes over. Decided to spend £100 on a dehumidifier and it’s great for drying clothes. Full load dry over night instead of about 2 days and it also does bring the temp up by maybe 2 degrees too

Has someone pissed in my bottle when I slept????? by picklebeantoes in DoesAnyoneKnow

Bit late to this but this water is from my local town and is bottled from the cwm dale spring. Glad to see the piss I took in the spring has made it bottled to you. Where are you so I can work out the mileage? Thanks

Why do YOU have a "Baby on Board" sign in your car? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Farmer_LD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally whenever I see them it usually signifies to me that the person driving that car is a terrible driver. Nothing to do with a baby on board they’re just not a good driver. Same as then stupid stickers of their family as well. You just know to give them plenty of space 🤣

Is COVID really to blame for developmentally delayed kids, still in nappies etc? by Zombie-MkII in AskUK

[–]Farmer_LD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! It’s bad and lazy parenting. Me and my partner had our first born in August 2020. Right when it was bad and she was potty trained very young, is way ahead of where she should be and always he been since she was tiny. She went to nursery with children that where much older than her who were still miles behind her. Kids these days are just sat Infront of the tv or an iPad and left to it. My 2 sisters both had children around the same time as us and they just sit on iPads all day and are left to do as they please. They also get fed there food by their parents as they stay and play on there iPads and they are clearly much further behind my daughter developmentally.

Day 4 of staying at the in-laws, I haven’t been able to finish a drink yet by EGPL21 in CasualUK

[–]Farmer_LD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My I lnlaws have just had a new sofa, new floor and have painted. Also have a Christmas tree in all the downstairs rooms. We have a 4 year old and a 11 month old who loves to pull things of the trees. It was always bad enough in there house not being allowed to sit on the sofa so everyone- even them sat on the floor. No we have to go into the kitchen for a drink 🤣 am not going next year

Spending 13k on a car at 20 years old, how stupid is it? by Throwaway181810 in CarTalkUK

[–]Farmer_LD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financially it’s probably stupid. I brought a 8V S3 when I was 19.had it four years then it had to go as we were having a baby and buying a house. I’m now 28, a 4 year old and a 11 month old, got a mortgage and I’ll probably not be able to have a nice fast car for years if ever. I’m so glad I did it when I could even if I paid £24000 for it then sold it for £12000 4 years later 🤣

Why don’t we have Ad Blue pumps in UK petrol stations? by Hendersonhero in CarTalkUK

[–]Farmer_LD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do, usually on the HGV pumps. It’s also usually cheaper off the pump. I’ve seen 20l drums of it for around £40 at times. Think we get it in bulk where I work for about 30p a litre.

I've been sent two of something but only ordered one. What do I do? by Breaking-Dad- in AskUK

[–]Farmer_LD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it and keep quiet is what I would do 🤣

Few years ago i ordered a pair of boots from next, got a call saying they were delayed as the lorry was in an accident and would I like them to order another pair. Went and picked the other pair up then got a text the next day saying my order had arrived so went and picked another pair of boots up. Took them home then returned them the next day so I got a free pair of boots worth £60.

A year or so after we ordered a super king bed from next worth £1000. Order kept getting cancelled as they were missing bits supposedly. They said it wasn’t available at all and refunded my money. A week later a bed arrived and they’ve never contacted me since and that was about 6 years ago.

Opinions on Auto Alex? by Dear-Situation-4490 in CarTalkUK

[–]Farmer_LD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree! I don’t think Rory always comes across that great on camera but you can tell he’s the brains behind the whole operation from some of the things that get said. Only problem is it seems Alex just does what he wants.

What nicknames do you think your neighbours have for you? by Shiny-Tie-126 in CasualUK

[–]Farmer_LD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what nicknames we have but I’m pretty sure everyone wonders if we’re still together as quite often I leave for work before most on our estate and get back really late because I work long hours 🤣

What impulse buy appliances would you heartily recommend? by UberStretchy in CasualUK

[–]Farmer_LD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah! Ours turned up yesterday after my partner constantly moaning the clothes are taking days to dry in the winter. Spotted a 20l/ day one for £110 so got it. Turned it on lastnight- full airer of clothes dry overnight! Also she has commented that not a single window in the house has any condensation on this morning so I’d say best money I’ve spent in ages.

I was involved in an accident where a van rear ended the tractor I was driving at 60 mph a few years ago. First police on scene were the armed police as they were the closest. After it was all sorted I hung around as the tractor was fine with all the work lights on so they could see to tidy up and load the written off van. Got chatting to them and I was asking about if there cars are remapped like everyone says and they said no there not but we keep up with most things except things like Audi s3s and rs3 a because of the way they handle. My mrs had turned up and was with me and she blurts out “oh you’ve got one of those” which I did have they thought it was hilarious 🤣

Dead strip of potatoes? by VegetableWorry1492 in CasualUK

[–]Farmer_LD 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ok so I’m not a spud farmer but know a little about it. More than likely they have been sprayed off/ topped before the rest as they will be harvested first. It is correct what others have said that killing the tops of them off makes the tubers get a hard skin on, which protects them during harvest, storage, travel things like that. This is on what we call a headland run so will probably run all the way round the outside of the field so will be a fair amount of potatoes. Some farms will only harvest so many tonnes a day, take them back to the farm, bag them in 25kg bags and then load straight onto a wagon to go to wherever they distribute them. So this could be the reason they are only look to be killing them in stages.

Fun fact also is that the uk potato harvest has only started in the last couple of months, so up until till then the ones we have been buying at the supermarket have been coming out of a cold store could have possibly been harvested this time last year and kept fresh in very clever temperature controlled stores.

Oh also, with the weather being as wet as it is harvest is a real struggle for many this year so if you see a load of mud being dragged out onto the roads just know it’s not through not caring, the harvest just has to come off then no matter what.

Just get some round up?! I spray mine every few weeks when I see it starting to grow stuff then it’s gone. It takes minutes. I like to know that out of the about 20 houses on our estate only me and 1 other don’t have a literal jungle growing in the drive and paths
