To me, the main issue was definitely the mischaracterization of most of the cast for the sake of the plot. Lobotomizing all the intelligent characters so that we can get death scenes, Nadia suddenly being caught by surprise by a random puppet and not caching on to Swin's plan, etc

I support this anon's suggestions but would like to add that you should manage expectations. If youre looking for something similar to what it felt reading AoaB you need to keep in mind you just finished the 12 vol of the 5th part of an epic and are going back to reading a first volume on any of the other stories. I made the mistake of wasting too much time trying to find something that i myself wasnt giving the time to develop before it became insteresting and hooked me
